We don't know the extent of the tear but you have a very legitimate point. Ligaments take a long time to heal and recovery of use is typically slow and arduous. Unless this is a really minor repair I have trouble seeing Brees coming back anytime soon. If it's bad or the repair is less than ideal and he's out for the season, who knows if he comes back next year.That was the last you’ll see of Brees. Atleast a good Brees.
That ligament in your thumb completely alters the way you use your hand. The surgery is only productive 50% of the time. The recovery time is 9-12 months. It’s not something you can play through as a quarterback. Especially a small QB. He’ll never be able to grip the ball the same.
I tore that ligament wrestling 3 years ago and still can’t hold up a gallon of water with it.
I couldn’t imagine trying to grip an NFL sized football and throwing it.
