That was the last you’ll see of Brees. Atleast a good Brees.
That ligament in your thumb completely alters the way you use your hand. The surgery is only productive 50% of the time. The recovery time is 9-12 months. It’s not something you can play through as a quarterback. Especially a small QB. He’ll never be able to grip the ball the same.

I tore that ligament wrestling 3 years ago and still can’t hold up a gallon of water with it.

I couldn’t imagine trying to grip an NFL sized football and throwing it.
We don't know the extent of the tear but you have a very legitimate point. Ligaments take a long time to heal and recovery of use is typically slow and arduous. Unless this is a really minor repair I have trouble seeing Brees coming back anytime soon. If it's bad or the repair is less than ideal and he's out for the season, who knows if he comes back next year.

Teddy B is a capable guy. He was the highest paid backup in the league. They are going to try to roll with him this year - its not like there are a ton of upgrades over Teddy B out there for the taking.

When you saw him try to grip the football & couldn’t, that’s bad. He had zero grip strength in his thumb. You can break a bo
I wouldn't speculate because guys have come back from far worse

I agree, but I’d say for a quarterback throw hand, this is the equivalent of tearing an acl.

I hope he has a good game next week.

I remember Warner and his thumb. He couldn't reliably grip the ball for a couple years. After he was benched long enough and started using a glove he came back fine. Granted he was around 10 years younger than Brees when injured.

I’ve always liked Drew, he seems like a class guy on and off the field. When I saw him not be able to hold the ball after the injury I felt bad for him, admittedly while also thinking our chances to win went up.
Same here and when AD went off the field I was very concerned.

Not too long ago I heard someone in media talking about all the above average to good qbs there were in the league and how there might not be as many teams as in previous years trying to get in position for Tua or Herbert, now there are quite a few teams with unsettled qb situations. Makes you wonder how many more throws Brady has in his arm.

I don't know if he'll come back from the injury or not ... but if this injury shutters his career, can you imagine how much Saints fans are going to hate us then?

None of this rivalry stuff is worth me getting Ex-Lax jambalaya or étouffée or even gumbo when I visit the Big Easy.

This is what I was saying in the other thread, this 6 week timetable seems like a pipedream. And this isn't like an ankle injury, you can't tough this out. You can either grip a ball or not, there's no middle ground.

I was going to the game last Sunday and I got an ex-lax burrito from a street vendor. Passed out on Venice beach and been shitting ever since.
Don’t trust the streets of LA. Lol

Well they just spent the last 8 months proving how football-illiterate and irrational they can be, so yeah, likely.

Yeah I don’t think he will throw again this year.

As I pointed out in another post he's 40 and restructured his contract last year voiding 2021. This means his contract expires at the end of the season. I think he was already going to retire. IMO he will make more money easier, once he's retired. He was all on board with over paying to keep Teddy and I'm sure that is why TB returned to NO.

I'm sure we will have to listen to him on TV next year.

I am a Brees fan. So, his injury bums me out.

To be clear, Brees fan. That’s it.

He was closing in on 75K career passing yards with legit shot at 80K. Brady is 4K behind... not far enough.

I've always looked at Brees with the Saints as Archie Manning with a much more talented supporting cast.

The End of Brees sounds too ominous for him. I prefer to say 'There will be no more cool Brees in New Orleans. It's gone, like Water under a Bridge". It's more directed toward their fans.
