You zeroed in on a statement and held onto it no matter what others were demonstrating to you. But since you want to glom onto that, there have been statements by our staff that forcing a team to make more plays and keep them underneath often does result in mistakes, punts, or FGs. It's playing the long game. That is not something somehow made up by the fans.2. Someone posted by leaving the defense out longer on the field increases a chance for a TO..... Absolutely ridiculous.
McVay's offense is roughly 55% pass and 45% run. Pretty much identical to the rest of the teams that have played us. So I guess every team is pass first then. And it has been that way for his entire time here. That is not a pass first philosophy as he often runs the ball on first down and sometimes second. But McVay mixes it up more than most coaches used to. Now, most coaches understand that you can't get away with the run on 1st and 2nd down then pass on 3rd. Offenses across the league simply don't work like that anymore. Maybe they did when you were torching other teams in Pop Warner, HS and with the Spartans.3. McVay philosophy is to pass the football first. The running game has never been a philosophy for McVay and never will.
Absolutely wrong. McVay has run this defense with small variations the entire time he's been here. Sure, at times we blitzed more or had a Ramsey on the field, but primarily, his defenses have always been bend but don't break. That is his philosophy.4. The Ram defense bend but don't break is not by design, but by necessity, due to the lack of talent. And still they give up big plays.
Would he change that if he had all phases with all pro players? Maybe. Doesn't hold water though as no team has that and likely never will with the salary cap. He has his DC turn up the heat at times, But he has always been ragged on by the fans for allowing teams to have that underneath stuff. Whether it was because we didn't have the horses at LB or DB, it has always been part of this defense. He has changed up some of the make up in order to stop the long runs and such but this has been his bed rock - by design.
Can we improve the defense with changes to our CBs? Possibly. Hopefully. Will it change our defense much? Doubtful.
Thanks Cap'n Obvious. Is anyone arguing that is not the case?5. The Ram run defense is good and the opposing coaches know that, which is why you are seeing teams pass against us more frequently, finally exposing one of the Rams weak points (pass defense and ST coverages).
Meh. It was in passing as in that it worked out for us timing wise. Quite possibly true. But so? Did you think he was suggesting we planned it that way or that the Rams wanted that punt blocked? The dumb dumb is you dwelling on it.6. Stating a block punt was a blessing in disguise (though it resulted in a TD) because it allowed the Rams to get the ball back quicker probably gets the dumb dumb award.
Our offense absolutely is a grind it out offense when we want to eat clock. Obviously at the end of the game and with the lead it hasn't worked very well of late. Possibly a little too predictable. But it has and hopefully will again. During games, we have numerous long drives. But as I said, our offense is designed to do both. If the other team is going to give us chunk plays, we are going to take them. And we definitely get our share. But in between those plays, we mix it up quite a bit. Of course McVay likes to stretch the field. But he also likes to eat clock. The design of this offense is to be able to do both.7. Our offense is not a grind it out offense, and never will be, and is not supposed to be, which is why when McVay tries to grind out games when we have leads we lose leads. I can point out all the games (if you like).... three of them which we lost due to the "grind it out" philosophy.
The Rams have used a lot of draft capital on the defense of late. How many second/third contracts are there on defense? That spending will ebb and flow. We don't have any Ramseys or ADs on the D.8. The Rams spending philosophy is directed at things that generate points. In our case it's the offense which is why the Rams don't stress over paying someone $10 mil to ride pine. Although they are under paying Stafford and Nacua at the moment.
When Stan Kroenke spoke about exercising his FROR and buy the team outright, he said several times that he wanted to produce a consistent contender. He said he wanted a Rams team that could contend for SBs virtually every year. He, KD, Snead, AND McVay have brough that to the Rams.9. Success in todays NFL, NBA and MLB is judged by championships which is why you are seeing coaches being canned by knee jerk owners. And from the fan side of it (for example) many Dodger fans had been calling for Dave Roberts head because all he could do is win division titles.... which is / was ridiculous.
I'm pretty sure most owners would take missing the playoffs twice in 9 years, making the SB in his second year, winning another, being virtually a play or two from beating last year's run away SB champ, and the culture that is happening here in a heart beat.
Baseball is a different animal. There is no serious salary cap. When there is that kind of spending, there is somewhat of an understandable expectation from the fans.
