Crazy part is this a position we thought the Rams would hit on last draft and they totally ignored it. Its possible that the Rams don't address it early too. I hope I'm wrong, but they haven't seemed to value that position recently in the draft.
The mock simulators really only show 2 top 20 CBs. McCoy is the top guy, but he had an ACL last year in a bowl and missed the entire 25' season.

They do show a number of CB's available in the late 20's through the 50's. I could see them addressing CB with that 2nd first or a 2nd rounder. Maybe move up to grab a guy like they did with Fiske, hopefully cheaper on cost.

I hope they can move back a few spots and get a dynamic pass catcher like Lemon (Tate probably doesn't make it to 13) or Sadiq. He is like a big WR, perfect fir this 13 personel. Supposedly also a great blocker. Or just the BPA playmaker, regardless of position, like Styles.

Then maybe a CB at 32 and or 64. Also I wouldn't mind a 6-5" 330 lb DT like Caleb Banks. There are few guys like that who are top 75 guys. Right now if Poona gets hurt we are screwed. Murchison is a FA so a DT would just take his spot.

Well if took 34 to beat an 8-9 team, by all estimates it could take 40 to beat a 11-6 team. Which I'm sure the "soul taker" is more than capable of.... :laugh1:
All estimates? Who the fuck takes one opponent and extrapolates that to another opponent in this way? You apparently.

And this is really the first time you’ve heard the term “soul taker, soul steeler, or soul snatcher”? And you wonder why people question how much you actually watch and pay attention to this team?
made a JAG like Barkley look like Dickerson.
JAG? Wow! Barkley would almost certainly own ED’s rushing title if the beagles didn’t hold him out of the final game last year. A record that has stood for 40 freaking years.
I know enough about football that if you have one of the best offenses in the NFL you want it on the field.... Not some hair brain game plan of keeping your defense on the field so the opposing offense can get in as many snaps as possible so we have chance at a turnover...... High School coaches don't even think like that..... My Pop Warner coaches didnt think like that. My college coaches didn't think like that...
You have to be intentionally ignoring what has been said here in an attempt to somehow prove a point. No one is saying you give up as many plays as possible. Just that you’re ok with giving up maybe some more plays rather than giving up big scoring plays and quick TDs and more points. There is obviously a greater chance for an offense to make mistakes and/or turnovers if they run more plays. Yeah you may give up some more first downs. But the obvious thought is that you “don’t break” and give up TDs.

Our offense is built to be able to do both score quickly and grind it out. If working correctly, your defense makes their offense work long periods to score fewer points than we do. Obviously that doesn’t always work out. But it has certainly worked more than it hasn’t as McVay has always had his DCs run that kind of defense.

I think I’ll take his football smarts over yours.
The reason why the Rams play the defense they do is because it’s what the talent level on Defense allows.... Plain and simple. The Rams are made to out score teams.

Every successful team in the history of the NFL has run defenses their talent level allows them to run. Talk about Captain Obvious.

Teams try to build units around their philosophies, but that’s not always possible. Few teams have great offenses AND great defenses at the same time in the salary cap era. There are always holes and even most very good teams have holes on both sides that they need to design around.

This Rams team decided to put more emphasis on the front 7 than the back four so we could control the run and prevent long developing big plays. That’s the guiding philosophy as to how they prioritized their roster and that’s how we ended up with the talent we have.

Sometimes you’re going to go against bad matchups. But in most years, I’m thinking 12-5 wins the division. I’m also thinking we have been pretty damn successful with this very philosophy for several years now.

Sadiq would be intriguing in this offense. I'd love to pair him with Ferguson. That would be two TEs in 13 personnel that can block amd are tough covers for a LB.

We could use a DT but we wouldn't be completely screwed if Poona went down because Tyler Davis is a good runs defender. He's not 350 but he's been a league leader in run stops both years.

I hope no matter what we get top notch players out of the next draft. I haven't personally looked but getting another receiving option may be up there as well with Adams being a year older. I think a lot is going to also depend on who we also resign. I do hope they go BPA with that 1st pick and then BPA for whatever needs we have. Either way we'll see.

1. Someone else posted Soul Taker.... and the other you posted are just as corny. I'm just mocking.
2. Someone posted by leaving the defense out longer on the field increases a chance for a TO..... Absolutely ridiculous.
3. McVay philosophy is to pass the football first. The running game has never been a philosophy for McVay and never will.
4. The Ram defense bend but don't break is not by design, but by necessity, due to the lack of talent. And still they give up big plays.
5. The Ram run defense is good and the opposing coaches know that, which is why you are seeing teams pass against us more frequently, finally exposing one of the Rams weak points (pass defense and ST coverages).
6. Stating a block punt was a blessing in disguise (though it resulted in a TD) because it allowed the Rams to get the ball back quicker probably gets the dumb dumb award.
7. Our offense is not a grind it out offense, and never will be, and is not supposed to be, which is why when McVay tries to grind out games when we have leads we lose leads. I can point out all the games (if you like).... three of them which we lost due to the "grind it out" philosophy.
8. The Rams spending philosophy is directed at things that generate points. In our case it's the offense which is why the Rams don't stress over paying someone $10 mil to ride pine. Although they are under paying Stafford and Nacua at the moment.
9. Success in todays NFL, NBA and MLB is judged by championships which is why you are seeing coaches being canned by knee jerk owners. And from the fan side of it (for example) many Dodger fans had been calling for Dave Roberts head because all he could do is win division titles.... which is / was ridiculous.

"Pretty Damn Successful"

Rams have been pretty successful over the last 7 years, but one Super Bowl in nine seasons is on the borderline of how success is defined and in todays sports world viewed as mediocre (unfairly), and if McVay doesn't at least get to the Super Bowl this season I think the clock starts ticking.

As an example Dave Roberts has three Chips in 10 years of coaching.
McVay has one Chip in 9 seasons "pretty damn successful" for what the Rams were, but how is that viewed in LA???? I think you get the point.... Maybe if we were the Bakersfield Rams of California, maybe one championship in 9 years would be something to hang your hat on.... But not in LA.

McVays offense is built off the run game. It has been from day one and continues to run through the run game today. We've all know this its not a new concept ex v ept to maybe one troll.

No it's not..... The running game is not a McVay philosophy.

If the running game was a philosophy for the Rams, we wouldn't have blown leads by trying to be a running team.... We pass the ball we win.

Hey man, I'm saying this to you simply out of respect for a fellow human being whom also claims to be a Rams fan...

I'm not been here as long as some but I will say that your last two days or so of posts have been the absolute worst stuff I have seen in my entire time here.

We are all entitled to opinions. This our curse as Americans because although we are all entitled to have an opinion, entitlement does not equal qualification.

Bro, it legitimately seems like you are intentionally being argumentative simply for the argument's sake.

So many people have taken their time to try to teach you... Have shown you the statistical proof and laid the logic out on a silver platter for your culinary pleasure...Yet it seems as if you are not even reading the words that people are typing.

I don't know man, I don't understand you at all and I will admit that it is frustrating me. That's more so a reflection of my own character and not yours and I apologize for that but damn dude you were a school-aged child in the '70s and claim to have watched football for decades but a lot of the things that you write sound like somebody who just watched their first game a few weeks ago.

It blows my mind How you choose to come on here and be so abrasive..

The Rams are in the postseason and very well could end up being Champs... Why in the hell are we dissecting every little minutia that we can find wrong with this team and then arguing about it?

Seems pretty intentional.

So in your grandioso post on my humanity / character why do you think that what I state is something greater than opinion???? I don't.... it's just my view..... Especially on a football forum..... It's not like were trying cure cancer. Just because somebody doesn't always see your point of view doesn't mean they are less or more of a Rams fan than you are.

You don't need to apologize for your character to me, because I don't know you and I certainly won't try to pull out some imaginary character flaw in any of your posts because of a football philosophy I don't agree on with you.

People here say I'm not a Rams fan because I support the Broncos as well, I've been called a closet 49ers fan because many of my pals that come over and watch the games with me are 49er fans..... My fandom gets questioned all the time but at the end of it I laugh about it and could give a rip roaring flying fuck what some here think about my loyalty to the Rams.

And as Americans we are entitled to our own opinions, maybe not entitled to our own facts... But if someone wants to believe what they state on a football forum as fact is fine with me..... Who am I to judge what an American is supposed to be..... Or a Rams fan for that matter.

In this contentious US political environment, I am saddened by the conflict amongst my Ramily.

So let me jump in!

I agree with these things:
  • the "bend, don't break" comes from McVay
  • the philosophy is based on "they'll make a mistake"
  • our personnel on D is young, so it breaks down more than anyone (incl coaches) would like
  • when our D line (our strength) gets pressure in a game (not always), we should collapse that middle zone that kills us (and killed the Panthers as we scored in like 5 plays to win the last game). there's no time to get beat deep
  • we need Ramsey clone or close copy and pray we find one or two possibilities in the draft
  • it's too early to talk draft, my sights are still on SB win

If that comes from McVay, then I agree with it. But I kinda get bored with the youth excuse, because the Rams brass makes that decision.

What happens with the middle of the field are two fold:
1. Our DB's play 8-12 yards off the receiver so the middle of the field is usually wide open, and the reaction time of recovery of our DB's seems slow to me.
2. Our DB's are hardly physical and not the greatest tacklers.
3. Though I dig Landman, but he just not fast enough to track and stay with receivers or TE's crossing the middle of the field.

I think if we had at least one hard hitting DB to put a scare in WR's coming across the middle of the field, that can help a little. But the only thing intimidating about our defense is the DL and the occasional hard hits by Landman.

Everyone wants this instant success. Why? Everyone wants to win right now! I've been watching football a long time. Long enough to know you can win a SB with a "middle of the road defense". Go look and see where SB winners defenses rank, most of them are "middle of the road"

This Ram Defense is good enough for this team to win a SB!!! We all know that teams facing the Rams WANT TO STOP THE OFFENSE!

DUH???

We had instant success.... DUH??? and with a great high dollar Defense.

The Rams offense is going to take us and win the Super Bowl this season.
