Back end of the defense mid to below. Tall and talented WRs will give the secondary trouble every time. Poona Ford is the defensive MVP. If you think yesyerday was bad its frightening what the D would be without him.

We will have to try and hit on the draft. I'd like to bring in another non-back breaking contract veteran presence to replace Williams and/or Witherspoon and if a stud CB is there in the 1st round for us we grab them too. Then another one mid rounds. When we had to replace AD we overloaded on DL picks a couple of years to make sure we hit on a few and had depth. Time to sign some of those guys and do the same in the secondary.

The scheme is pathetically soft. You'll notice it tightened up during the very last drive last night. Why can't we play that tight all game??
I suspect it is because McVay has instructed Shula to not get beat over the top. Every season since 2017 the D has started soft then tightened up through the season. The only exception IMO would be this season, the D started the season better then they are finishing. But the seasons not over they still have time to turn it up. If McSnead can fix the backend of the D almost as well as they fixed the run D this past off season, the window is wide open. A roster stacked with young talent and one the greatest QBs of all time.

Actually the pressure is what forced the hurried throws. That last guy was wide open. He just didn't know to settle down and make the catch. Tried to keep running while catching it. The pressure on Young is what made the throw behind him a bit.
It's easy to rag on the D when they give up 3rd and longs during the course of the game. And they did that sometimes.
When they did started getting some pressure on Young, it changed everything.
This D can play pretty effectively if they can continue to press the opponent's Q on a consistent basis.

Umm the Rams have the lowest paid Defense in the league..... You can only do so much with untalented DB's
We have all-pros on rookie contracts.

This off season is going to get complicated with our pay on defense.

Our CBS struggle playing man with larger wr's, so nothing we can really do other than play soft coverage when going against teams like Carolina.

Ive seen McCreary on the field quite a bit lately, really interested in how hes been playing. He made a really good clutch break up last night.

Agree. But they pressured him all game. Too often there are guys just sitting down in the soft zone. Wide open.

Fortunately, the Bears LT went out. Maybe Verse can blow up the backup all day the way we got blowed up when our backup was in.

Been saying it for weeks, but you have to keep a QB guessing. A few Landman blitzes started really causing issues for Young.

We need more 5-6 man blitzes to get the QB uncomfortable and getting the ball out quick and before WRs are in routes.

This is the way to cover for a suspect secondary. A few turnovers change the entire game. And so what if you give up a TD. YOUR gonna give them up anyways if you play soft.

And while your at it Shula, get your guys playing some man coverage, soft zones all day are for losers.

No offense intended but I think the entire premise of this thread is wrong......we will only go as far as the offense takes us. The defense is just along for the ride and can contribute with two or three stops. The offense is the straw that stirs the drink, they are what McVay teams have always been known for, so they have to produce north of 30 points. Just like wth TGSOT, fans have never had a problem accepting that. Defense or special teams make a stop, a takeaway, a punt block or a great return and the O will do their part. What's wrong with that? If the defense or ST do more than that, all the better but offense has to perform. You don't put all that money in restoring the 66 Vette and then drive around in the 2025 F150 on weekends!!!

Basically you need the defense to come up with 3 stops a game and force some FGs instead of TDs. Then hopefully the Rams offense scores more TDs than FGs and scores on 70% of their possessions.

While they move around Verse defaults to the RT and BY over the LT.

A turnover, 3 punts, 2 TDs and 2 FGs ought to be fine. Rams should have no problem scoring more than 20, more than 24 if one of those FGs ends up a TD. Bottom line is the offense has to produce or even a stellar defensive game could end up a loss.

Who is this all-pro you speak of? On defense?

Unless you’re referring to Puka eating some cap when it comes to paying defense, then I agree. But we only have one all pro on a rookie deal, let alone multiple

Then we probably lose if Caleb has an average game. Our D isn't going to hold the Bears under 20 points.
Apparently you haven't heard of the "soul taker" who plays QB for the Rams.
He's played in Chicago and GB several times with bad weather. So has DA and Corum.
I expect a big game from the offense this Sunday in Chicago.
