They had nine 1st round picks from 2011-2016 and have traded or released all of them.

Drafted him over michael Thomas.

Do they not have football people in power ? They make some of the worst decisions imaginable. Lost out on Wentz, and Watson. Drafted Mayfield who could be Manziel 2.0.

Poor browns fans , just embarrassing

It is baffling. The reality is that a number of fans could have drafted better over that period than the Browns FO did. It's why I always push back when people act like we should put aside our opinions if a NFL FO disagrees. I'm just glad we're no longer the team drafting like shit.

The Cleveland Browns will win a couple of games this year, however, IMHO will have a new Head Coach next year and these will be the possibilities.

  1. Mike McCarthy...I believe this could be McCarthy's last year in Green Bay and he has a history with John Dorsey so there is always that.
  2. John DeFilippo....Will be on everyone's short list as i expect he'll only spend one year as the OC for the Vikings, but he'll have other options than Cleveland.
  3. Lincoln Riley...Reunited with Baker Mayfield, might be too early for Riley, but it would create a buzz in Cleveland.
  4. Dave Toub....Toub and Dorsey also have a history and although Toub is older (56) Mike Zimmer was 57 when he got his chance and maybe Toub's no nonsense approach is what the Doctor ordered for the Browns.
  5. John Harbaugh, always possible that the Ravens go in another direction and if that is the case Harbaugh was born in a bar in Toledo, across from the depot.

You are an outlier IMO. I respect pretty much everything you say regarding draft picks because I know you put the work in and you have a pretty good track record with Donald, Goff, Joyner and a few others.

Of course a fan can do better, because there are only so many players to pick and for one player to be great, another has to be a bust. Plus we all have an idea based on how they perform in college and the scouting combine around what round a player should be picked.

In any given draft there are probably around 20 guys who everyone knows will be a first round pick - all you have to do to be right where a GM is wrong is want a guy who ends up being good when that GM picked a bust.

But at the end of the day, teams have scouts watching a ton of these prospects in person. They (generally speaking) have more time to watch film of these players. They (generally speaking) have access to film that we do not. And they probably have connections with college coaching staffs that we do not.

In a way it's kind of like blackjack. A GM is like a player that knows how to play and follows the rules that allow for optimal success - but there are times where you can lose and lose badly anyway. Conversely, (most) fans are like the guy that sits down and hits on a 17 and sometimes has a string of luck and gets a 4. At the end of the night, the fan will walk out with more money - but the GM was the better blackjack player.

....:and yet from 2007-2016 the Rams won fewer games than the Browns.
In fact, no one won less than the Rams in that ten year span.
Thankfully, mercifully, it seems to have turned around.
But Ram fans have no room to bash other front office organizations. The Rams set the bar at absolute garbage front office for years.
One season does not make the team of Demoff, Snead and the coaching staff winners or keepers. There is going to be a lot of work to do to maintain it.
The change started with Snead/Demoff being allowed to do their thing. There was actually a plan....nice for a change. With McVay the team has a coach that can be here (hopefully) long term....10+ years. That implies consistent success but lends stability that top organizations always have.
Fans of long suffering teams loath bandwagon fans with good reason.
Since I first bought season tickets in 1992 I have seen 5 (including last year) winning seasons. That is pathetic. I know there are older fans that have suffered much longer. Also saw lots of good football in the 80's.
My point is, yes, the Browns are a joke and a terrible organization. The Rams are the same joke until last year.
The team is well set up for long term success.
I am hopeful for the first time in forever.
I for one will be watching the drafted and second year OL and the young LBs.
How will teams adjust to McVays offense and Goff?
The draft is always the key. Always.
The Rams have to find a starting quality lineman or two of the young guys they have on the roster now.

If any other team set the bar, Cleveland cleared it by a mile.

No one has won less than Cleveland since 1999. No one has lost more games since 1990, and they weren't even playing for three seasons. Only Tampa Bay has a worse winning% since 1970.

Rams have been drafting well for a few years and have done the work of lifting themselves out of the pit. Cleveland is still mired at the bottom. Even if Dorsey is the guy, all those wasted draft picks just show the bad times are going to last for a while longer.

All true.
Also true the Rams have been the worst of the previous 10 years. Thankfully ended last year.
My point is draftkng is key.

Rams drafted WR Donnie Avery in 2008 over DeSean Jackson & Jordy Nelson, they also killed me and @jrry32 when they drafted Brian Quick over Alshon Jeffery....Just never understood that selection.

Paul DePodesta was in over his head as Dodgers GM.
So the Browns hire him to be Chief Strategy Officer?!?!?

Oh, and a big F U to Frank McCourt

Except in this case, the Browns FO lost every single hand. You could throw a dart at Mel Kiper's top players and likely hit on at least a couple of those 9 first round picks. The Browns FO somehow got all of them wrong. Frankly, your probability of not picking a bust in the first is around 2/5 or 1/2. The Browns somehow went 0 for 9. It's actually impressive how inept they were.

I don't think knowledgeable fans are better than every FO, but I do think they can do a better job than the worst ones. I know I could.

I believe you probably could. Haven't run across anyone else I could say that about though.

I'm a firm believer in your situation playing a big part in the outcome of your career. Some of those Browns picks the GM did his job - and then the coaching staff did not.

Garrett looks like a stud. Kirksey is solid. Bintonio is good. That team has talent - too many misses, sure, but guys like Danny Shelton probably could have been probowlers under Belichick.

Maybe. I might be biased because I disliked almost all of their picks over that period. There is no doubt the coaching staff plays a role.

I feel for the Browns. Not too long ago we were like them. I really want to see them turn it around. But I do agree with den in that yet again a new Head Coach will be on the horizon for them next year.

I think the Rams should save them a step. Trade a couple of 7th rounders for a couple of firsts. That way the Browns won't have to wait a couple of years to make that trade.
