What I don't get is why Phillips continued to play a soft zone the entire game.

We were getting reamed by Godwin all game and we continued to play 7 to 10 yards off him the entire game. We should have changed up our defense to a defense where the corners played within 5 yards of the receiver with secondary help from Weddle or Johnson on Peters man since he has a tendency to once in awhile get faked out of his shoes by the QB.

In addition, Philips hardly ever blitzed in this game. Winston had all day to throw to find an open receiver.

When we had given 28 points in the first half but were down by only 11, I felt we had this game in the bag since Philips is a master at making second half adjustments and our offense was starting to come alive. Our offense continued to come alive in the second half but Philips did not make any adjustments that I could see. Terrible game by Philips yesterday. When we score 40 points, we should win easy against a team like Tampa Bay. No excuses for that pile of drivel by the defense.
In a result like that there's no shortage of blame to go around. Wade probably could have done better. But I think the Bucs had a great gameplan to stress our weaknesses and on top of that they won a lot of matchups from the OL to the wideouts. I'm sure film review will yield a ton of areas for the Rams to fix.

I don't like this game on the road in SEA on a very short week. The NFL has to get rid of this Thursday night crap.

Actually, this might be the one time its not a bad thing. Need to forget yesterday.

This O uses PA as much as any in the league and when you stop running you hurt your passing game.

70 passes to 10 runs is crazy.
So does do interceptions and fumble 6’s.

Is what it is though. I’m not clutching my pearls after one loss.

There has been some difficulty on the offensive side of the ball the last few games so while I'm not freaking out I need to see McVay avoid the pitfalls.

The only adjustment Wade made at halftime that I recall is he took NRC off Godwin in the slot and put Weddle on him...but they continued with 4 man rushes and soft zone for the most part...
Night and day between the teams...Bowles was sending the house even when up 18 in the 3rd quarter....same M.O they used in AZ...

When was the last time a QB won a game after throwing 60 passes, let alone dropping back over 70 times.

I am not bashing Peters play as much as i am saying he doesn't fit the scheme they want to play. He is a pure zone CB and today their zone was picked apart.

The defense never stopped them even as the offense kept putting points on the board even without any running game at all.

And before today the Rams had played zone more than any other team in the NFL - and had a top 5 defense while doing so.

Everybody played terribly today from GZ having the opening kick go out of bounds. Aaron Donald was neutralized, the pass rush was non existent.

The Rams knew he was a zone CB before trading for him - nothing that happened Sunday told us anything about his future IMO.

It looked obvious to me...

Our team has been preparing for Seadderall since last week.
Totally agree! McVay likes to be prepared, sometimes to a fault. I wouldn't be surprised if they were preparing for Seattle as well Tampa this past week.

I just watched the highlights again... the Rams O showed a lot of toughness... hanging in there until the very end.... never gave up! The Rams D let us down, or the Bucs O just played terrific, but that IMO was what cost them the game. IT happens. Can't wait for Thursday!!!

I think this game put a nail in Marcus Peters LA Rams coffin.

Phillips would like to play more press man and he is just not a fit for that scheme.

I look for them to draft a guy and maybe even pursue a FA CB that can play man, before resigning Peters.

Talib also might be cooked at this point. Need to get more aggressive players at that position.
I know Marcus Peters has his head scratching moments, but how awesome was that pick six! Probably the most exciting play of the game.

GEEEZ REALITY CHECK PLEASE!!!!!

What was the Ram's record in 2017? They were 11-5 that year right? They then got a softer schedule in 2018 than if they had been in the Super Bowl that season.....you with me? Then in 2018 they dominated and went to the Super Bowl. So as a consequence their schedule got tougher, i.e. they went to the top of the heap this year. Also, because of it everyone but everyone is gunning for this team.

IMO the Bucs came in feeling they had nothing to lose and simply let it go, and went out and played lights out. Good for them. They have a HC very familiar with the Rams having been the HC in AZ. Also IMO this team got caught looking ahead to Thursday night a divisional opponent ergo a much more important game.

Arians knows the weakness of the Ram o-line is the right side. So they targeted Blythe and Haverstein, that much was obvious. Notice they didn't target the two new guys, Noteboom and Allen. The bulk of the pressure was coming from the right side through Blythe and around Havenstein. Also notice how Whit also struggled (his age is showing).

I expect a much better effort from the coaches and players both on Thursday night. They will be embarrassed and angry, a good thing. They now know they can't take anyone lightly anymore. They have a tough schedule, tougher than any since McVay's hire. Now lets see how they adjust, becaused they learned they too must step up across the board.

If they get blown out by the Hawks then we worry. But anything less than a blowout and I'm not going to panic. Beating the Hawks is no easy task in their house. Besides I always thought they probably would split with the Hawks. Hell even the Pats lose once in a while, but there is never any panic. They just re-focus and play to their abilities. I expect nothing less from the Rams.

The coaching staff knows their boat has two holes on the right side. Let's see if they do anything at all to plug them.

I’m not surprised that I would start an anti overreaction thread and still see people suggest McVay change his scheme, Phillips change his defense and still focus on a dozen bad passes by Jared while forgetting 46 outstanding ones.

If McVay had mixed in more runs after going down 21, they would’ve run out of time before they caught up. Running wouldn’t have stopped the Bucs from continuing to score. As it was, they came within 8 twice in the second half.

Two of the interceptions were tips. It happens. QB’s fumble more when they have to throw and the defense occasionally gets home on a blitz. Who knew?

I predicted before the game that Wade would have to mix in more man concepts. Better they do that in advance than try to do so on the fly but they were still honing the base attack. This correction was inevitable and now is urgent.

And as McVay said repeatedly, the key is to do better with the execution than to do as so many suggest...change to different personnel. The line will get better cohesion and the results in the run and pass will improve.

I’m glad this staff fixes problems and not over react like fans and media do.

I'll admit I was very emotional during and right after the game, but having some time to sleep on it I'm ok now. I've lowered my expectations for the season but I'm eager to see how this team bounces back, we're only 4 weeks in, everyone needs to take a deep breath

The OL is the problem, not Goff - I have to agree with Chris Simms (for once) from 12:30 minutes onwards. He was composed, played lights out but missed some throws playing under constant duress -go figure.

I quote, 'the Rams O line got their arse whooped, I mean whooped'

The turnovers? Ok he didn't see David, but maybe we should accept that was a great design. David is short and Goff missed him in making his read. It happens, particularly when you have a Noteboom and Whit standing in front of you. The other two picks were not bad throws, he had his man, made a decisive throw, but the early DMVP made two great plays

The defense had a bad day, even though individually there was plenty to like. We have Obo and depth on the bench. Why don't we use them? Couldn't we simply drop 2 LB/S into coverage and bring 5 rather than 4 to give our (very strong) secondary a chance? Our zone coverage wasn't nearly as bad as many are saying. There wasn't enough pressure to consistently throw off TBs timing. If there had been, we might have had a pick or two ourselves. They had 2 sometimes 3 on AD, they could not have picked up all 5

I think we were just looking past Tampa to Seattle. Not something that good teams do but Tampa came before we play two tough division games and this weekend was the result.

Didn't the dolphins beat the Pats last year?
