This just happens to be, for me, one of the very few cases in which I'm glad for the "protect the shield" conduct clauses which usually strike me as being so horrible in so many ways because, frankly, this is such a CRYSTAL CLEAR case of a person who is guilty who effectively escaped punishment via manipulation of the judicial system rather than exoneration based on innocence or even based on a reasonable doubt.

There was no reasonable doubt. He was stone guilty and paid the woman he beat to literally get lost. I'm sure his lawyer made it clear how she could either take the money and run...or...he'd make sure to revictimize her so badly using the legal process that it would make the beating seem like foreplay. I don't blame her for taking the money especially knowing even from a distance the kind of hell a lawyer with resources can bring on a victim without resources...

And for the first time, maybe ever, if Roger Goodell slams Greg Hardy, I might just throw some heavy respect his way. He sure had better do at LEAST as much as he did with Ray Rice and learn from past mistakes and ASK for the evidence. If Hardy refuses to cooperate, then I hope Goodell drops the S%^#hammer on him. Let Hardy spend a ton of jack fighting it out in court. He'll still lose another year and even if he wins, he'll still not get the salary back and by not cooperating with Goodell, he's sending the message to the Ownership that he's not only guilty, but he's just one temper tantrum away from giving everyone in the FO the kind of migraine that starts in the anus and goes straight up the spine to right behind the eyes...

Of course, you know that it means that Goodhell will fuck up yet again and only give him a one game suspension.

Texans safety D.J. Swearinger wanted to have some work done on his truck this offseason, but the people who did it say he wasn’t willing to pay for it.

TMZ reports that a police report has been filed in Houston alleging that Swearinger skipped out on a $20,000 bill from Espi Motors for work they did on his pickup truck.

According to the report, Swearinger brought his truck into the shop to have a variety of bells and whistles installed, including matte black paint with a Batman logo, speakers, new wheels, custom grill and a train horn, and then balked at the cost for the work when it was done. He then allegedly took his car from the shop without paying for the work. The shop tried to track Swearinger down, but were unable to do so despite the distinctive look of the truck that Swearinger’s allegedly driving around town.

Per TMZ, police are investigating and neither Swearinger nor the Texans have made any comment.

a train horn? I've never pimped my ride before but that seems excessive.

I don't care how people upgrade their rides so long as they fucking pay for it. Swearinger is a grade-A tool.

If I'm driving down a quiet road listening to some morning jazz and compiling my thoughts for the day ahead of me and some jag off blows a train horn right next to me - I won't care whether he paid for it or not - I'm gonna be pissed.

The moves and machinations involved with the imminent opening of the free agent market are dominating the headlines right now, but not every piece of news involving an NFL player is about their contract status.

There’s also the familiar offseason news of a player running afoul of law enforcement and Cardinals linebacker Alex Okafor did that early Monday morning in Austin, Texas.

The Austin American-Statesman reports that Okafor, who played his college ball at the University of Texas, was arrested at 3:22 a.m. for resisting arrest. According to Travis County jail records, he remained in custody several hours later although other details about the arrest are still pending because affidavits concerning the arrest haven’t been fully processed.

Okafor was a 2013 fourth-round pick by the Cardinals and led the team in sacks with eight last season.

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona Cardinals outside linebacker Alex Okafor was arrested early Monday morning in Austin, Texas, and was still in a Travis County jail as of early afternoon.

Mark J. Rebilas/USA TODAY SportsAlex Okafor recorded a team-leading eight sacks in 2014.
He was expected to appear in front of a judge at some point Monday, according to the Travis County Sheriff's Office.

Okafor, 24, was arrested in the downtown entertainment area of Austin after the Austin Police Department responded to a call at 1:51 a.m. about a disturbance, according to police.

When Austin Police Department officers tried detaining Okafor, he ran from the scene, according to police. He was eventually stopped and arrested.

Okafor was charged with evading arrest on foot, a Class A misdemeanor, which carries maximum punishments of one year in jail and a $4,000 fine, according to police and the sheriff's office.

Jail records show Okafor went through central booking at 3:22 a.m.

Police said Okafor was also charged with a Class C warrant, which carries a maximum penalty of a $500 fine.

"We are aware of the report and are in the process of gathering all of the details regarding the situation," the Cardinals said in a statement.

Okafor led the Cardinals with eight sacks in 2014 while playing in 13 games. He was drafted in the fourth round in 2013 and played in just one game as a rookie before suffering a season-ending biceps injury in Week 3.

Texans pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney, the first overall pick in last year’s NFL draft, suffered a minor injury when he was bitten by a dog owned by teammate D.J. Swearinger.

Sports Radio 610 in Houston reports that Clowney went to the emergency room after Swearinger’s pit bull bit him on the arm. The dog’s vaccinations are up to date and Clowney was not seriously hurt.

The dog has been placed under home quarantine, according to the police in Pearland, Texas.

“Animal control handled it as a standard call,” said Lieutenant Patrick Savage. “Standard procedures were followed by our humane department and the animal control officer who went out there.”

Clowney is currently recovering from microfracture knee surgery after an injury-plagued rookie year.

Wow, this thread is picking up steam, but the dog bite seems to be stressing the seams of actual criminal behavior....Was Clowney trying to repossess the truck from DJ?

Admittedly, part of me giggles at the application, but in earnest I think that a train horn should be reserved for it's intended purpose, same as it should be for sirens/lights on emergency vehicles.

Gun charge against Chris Johnson dropped

Free agent running back Chris Johnson is no longer facing a gun charge in Florida.

Johnson posted on social media that the charge against him was dropped, adding that there was “no evidence of me doing anything wrong.” Dom Cosentino of NJ.com confirmed that the case against Johnson is now listed as closed.

Johnson is currently recovering after he was shot in the shoulder in a drive-by shooting. His injuries were not serious and he is expected to be healthy enough to play this season.

The 29-year-old Johnson is a free agent after the Jets decided not to bring him back this year. Last season was the worst of his NFL career, with career lows in carries (155), yards (663), touchdowns (1), catches (24) and receiving yards (151).

Ray McDonald will sue the woman who accused him of rape
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 16, 2015

Ray McDonald was accused of rape in December, and the 49ers cut him immediately after news broke that police were investigating. But McDonald has not been charged, and now he plans to sue his accuser, saying she made a false claim and that it has put his football career in jeopardy.

McDonald’s lawyer told the San Jose Mercury News that video from McDonald’s home-surveillance system show the woman having “clearly consensual” sex with McDonald, and that the rape allegation was false. Yet the allegation led the 49ers to release McDonald, and no other team has shown interest in signing him. McDonald and his lawyer released a statement saying they hope the lawsuit can vindicate him and get his NFL career back on track.

“In the eyes of the NFL teams, the unresolved threat of charges being filed against him, even though factually unfounded, continues to present a roadblock to this remarkable athlete being able to move forward in his career,” according to the statement. “This lawsuit is intended to vindicate him . . . and return his good name. . . . False accusations such as this not only harm the person who was subjected to the accusation, but they also harm women generally, causing unwarranted suspicion in cases where an individual is rightfully accused of a sexual crime.”

McDonald was also arrested and accused of domestic violence in August. He was not charged in that case either.

Quite frankly, criminal charges ought to be brought against his accuser.

The article is right. The damage done to Ray McDonald is just part of it. This hurts real victims of rape.

Report: Antwon Blake arrested and released over weekend
Posted by Josh Alper on March 17, 2015

Steelers cornerback Antwon Blake reportedly had a bit too much to drink on Saturday night, which led him to spend some time early Sunday morning in the company of Oceanside, California law enforcement officials.

TMZ reported that Blake was arrested for public intoxication early Sunday morning when police picked him while he was walking around drunk outside of bars in Oceanside. He was taken into custody and then released once he sobered up. Jacob Klinger of PennLive.com confirmed with city police that someone with Blake’s name and birthdate was arrested and released, but further details became confidential once Blake was released.

“We are aware of the report and are still gathering information,” Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. “We will have no further comment at this time.”

It doesn’t seem like there’s going to be much fallout as a result of the incident, which appears to be a case of the police giving Blake a chance to sleep it off before letting him go on his way. Blake was given a one-year tender as a restricted free agent by the Steelers, who he provided with 36 tackles during his second season with the team.
