Yeah, bad spot for sure, but I was more concerned about the decision to punt afterward. I’m so glad the offense was able to change McVay’s mind, because that game was designed for us to lose. Totally surprised there wasn’t a penalty of some kind after the sneak, TBH.

Yep, I was shouting “go for it” through the TV until McVay obviously heard me and trotted Goff and the offense back onto the field. Lol. I didn’t want to see Wilson get a shot at winning the game the way he was burning us deep all game with TL.

There was a second when we decided to go for it where I thought “ this is a risky decision”...

Then I thought, statistically... was it really that risky? The odds might have been best going for it and that’s what McVay decided to do.

I re-watched this play last night and paused it at a couple spots and he appears to start to go down where the referee spotted the ball but I can't see when his knees hit the ground.

They could have hit a yard short, a half yard short or at the first down marker.

From what I could tell, my best bet is that he was a half yard short.

I am going to check the All 22 tonight to see if I can get a better angle of when Gurley's knee actually hit.

This game was truly bizarre in some of the officiating I saw.

How about the TD where the dude clearly stepped out of bounds?

or when Woods pass interference call - the official standing right there with the play in front of him called nothing...

Also the overturn of the Gurley touchdown I thought was strange...

I think way too many people are blinded by their bias.
I saw a lot of stuff uncalled (holding on both sides....by every OL in every game) I didn't see any bad calls against the Rams in terms of penalties.
The spots were bad.
If you are a ref trying to swing a game you don't spot a ball to give a team 1 yard to pick up a first.
All this "the refs hate us" whining is so daft.

If there was ever a game where you could accuse the officials of being on the take, this was it. Blatant non calls, (the ref was standing right there when Hags wr stepped out of bounds and came back in, he threw his hat, so we know he saw it, but was over-ruled and Hags awarded a TD). Rams DL being held almost every play. Bad spotting of the ball, and only on the Rams. Gurley scores TD but has to settle for a FG, Rams screwed out of ten points on those 2 plays.

If you watch the Hags -Rams highlights on youtube, at the 7:38 mark, after a Carson big gain in the 3rd qtr, watch Hags OL hit Rams LB in the back after the tackle. He slams him from behind in the middle of his back with his head down leading with his helmet, sending him sprawling face down to the turf. An official standing right there, turns his head and walks away.

I could go on after re-watching the game. I wonder how McVay is feeling about the officiating of this game and if he will try and address it to the NFL front office.

I hope the Rams don't get this officiating crew again..

I actually defended the refs on two of the calls so far - the PI on Gurley and the mark of when Gurley went down.

However, some of the other calls were extremely blatant against the Rams ...

The Cooks helmet to helmet, the overturn of the Gurley TD (it didn't look 100% that he didn't make it to the goal line), and the blatant holding calls that were missed.

I know there is pretty much a hold on every play - it is the blatant ones that get me riled up where the defender puts his arm around Donald or Suh's neck and pulls him back from behind. In addition, there was one long run from a Seattle runner where a Ram defender went to tackle the runner at around the line of scrimmage and the Seattle player pulled him from behind. No call. Plus there was a hands to the face against Donald that went uncalled.

And even though I defended the ref on the mark, I want to know why it wasn't at least reviewed. It could have been a bad spot looking at the replays. I couldn't tell from the "ONE" angle that I saw. I bet there were other angles that could have provided a better definitive rule of when Gurley's knee actually hit the ground.

Can't remember if they were going by elbow or knee on the TD.
It looked like a TD to me and I saw nothing that would have overturned it.
That call cost me my fantasy game, haha.
If a rusher dips under a blockers arms and the OL doesn't reset their hands they aren't calling that and haven't for several years.
The holds just aren't being callled unless a runner runs right past the guy being held (the hold that was called when Suh was held later in the game).
They either need to change to rule or start enforcing it. But, the league is run by idiots who believe the only way to get people to watch is to have high scoring games.
If someone can't appreciate defense they are not a football fan.

Bad calls are gonna happen. I'd say the bigger problems was the large chunks of yardage given up are more of an issue than reffing.

Good teams find a way to overcome and win. Case in point yesterday.

The Rams lost two of their three top WRs. The fact that McVay didn't change his play calling at all and that both backups made contributions shows how well coached this O is. A major plus.
The D....different story. But even the D, that was physically out played most of the day, made a key stop or two when really needed.
The team put up 33 points in one of the hardest places to play and left up to 11 points on the field (missed extra point, Goff fumble before half taking them out of FG range and Goff pic at the goal line....had the TE wide open in the endzone on that play too) while dealing with injuries to key guys. Impressive day by the O.
Another very hard road trip looms....but it now looms with a three game lead in the West.

I only complain about the refs when they deserve it.

I saw no major issues the first 4 games... however this game was a different story.

I can't speak for others - but it has little to do with my own bias - the bias of officials towards a home crowd is however a real thing that has been documented in many major sports. I read an article about it a couple years ago - college basketball being the most dramatic.
