I know that it's weird to put a thread on an undrafted free agent, but hear me out. Scales' tape show a guy who should've been drafted in the fifth round. I watched him against Ohio State, and it impressed me in a big way. He was always around the ball, and I counted ten combined tackles, which is pretty impressive against Ohio State's offensive line. He's undersized at 6'0", 230 lbs., sure, but I see him easily making this team, along with Kiser, replacing Ramik Wilson and Bryce Hager.

Rarely if ever do teams cut a guy right after they signed him, so Ramik is not being replaced by anybody, let alone an UDFA.

Look at JF era holdovers and then look there for guys to be replaced. Snead/McVay are slowly moving these guys on to bring in their own. But they WILL let competition be the final deciding factor. but those are the guys who need to fight for their jobs. Even one's who have seemed to perform well

In the ROD mock draft, I took Josey Jewell in the 5th round only because @Ramhusker picked Scales right in front of me. I was pissed! I'm very surprised he wasn't drafted. The combination of Kiser/ Scales lining up next to Barron will be an upgrade over Ogletree

Akeem Ayers is one example of a guy on this very team who was cut in favor of an undrafted free agent/rookie draft pick.

It's not unheard of, and Scales certainly has the talent to do that.

IMO he's the gem of the UDFAs we know of so far, but he has an uphill climb to make the roster. Kiser, Littleton, and Barron are locks. That leaves one maybe two spots with Scales, Ramik Wilson, Hager, and Travin Howard all in the mix.

Good kid, I watched every game he played against Ohio State and some other Indiana games. He's the type of player that does jump out and I am anxious to see how he handles the next level. All of us are going to have our favorites for UDRFA's, but in this case I feel strongly that Scales makes the team, but I also believe Wilson will too.

I'm sorry, but if he's so talented why wasn't he drafted? Now I know that there are a lot of players in the NFL that went undrafted, but usually none of us knew before hand which UDFA players would be good enough for a spot on a 53 man roster. That is why I can't put faith in someone who went undrafted over someone who has already proven themselves. Maybe you're right, and Scales could be special, but he's going to have to prove it to me first before I'll believe it. Sorry, but that's the way I see it.

Why was London Fletcher undrafted? Why was Kurt Warner undrafted?

Players fall for many reasons. For Scales, it was probably because he's undersized.

But I see your point. Scales will definitely have to prove his worth, but I have a feeling that he will.

Go Rams!

Stop with this horrendous logic. If you watched Scales play and you think he's no good, make that argument. If you haven't watched him play, stop trying to tell someone who has that they're wrong. Why wasn't Scales drafted? Because he's 6'0" 230 pounds with short arms and a 4.7 40.

What did Tegray Scales do as a starter the past two years in the Big 10? I'm happy to tell you:
2016: 125 tackles, 24 TFLs, 7 sacks, 1 Int and 1 FF
2017: 89 tackles, 12.5 TFLs, 6 sacks, 2 Ints, and 0 FFs

Pretty damn good production in one of the best conferences in college football. Tegray Scales likely isn't a future superstar in the making, but he can play. He has the talent to stick on the roster and even start down the line.

Go ahead and take a look at Wade's starting LBs his final year in Denver. They were Brandon Marshall and Todd Davis. Marshall was a 5th round pick of the Jaguars. The Jaguars cut Marshall multiple times during his rookie season to put him on the Practice Squad, and they finally cut him before the start of the regular season going into his second year. Todd Davis was an undrafted free agent.

That means that Wade's two ILBs were a guy who couldn't make the Jaguars (back when they were crappy) and a former UDFA. Yet, both guys performed admirably. Wade gets quality play out of overlooked players because he knows how to identify exactly the skill-set that is maximized in his defense. Tegray Scales has that sort of skill-set, and he's a guy who should thrive on special teams.

If he's fast, he will/can make contributions against the run.
40 Yard Dash; 4.77 SECONDS
Not the fastest out there! Shaquem Griffin blew away all LBs with 4.38.

Did Marshall and Davis replace someone the Broncos just brought in during FA? I believe that was his main point. It makes sense for the most part that you don’t sign a guy in FA if he can be replaced by an UDFA. Can Scales knock a player out that has made an NFL squad? Quite possible. Probably more likely he knocks off one of our non-starters we already had on the team.
