Where did I say “fifteen times better”Jackson better than Gurley? OK. That's reasonable.
However, do you think he was 'fifteen time better' than Gurley?
THAT's the comment a few of us are pushing-back against.
Steven Jackson was maybe fifteen times better than June Henley ... maybe.
Respectfully, Jackson was hurt all the time. Dude would start games and not finish them constantly. It doesn't show up when you look back at stat lines because it says 16 or 15 games started, but he'd be out of the game by halftime. Look at the carries per season. There's seasons he played 16 or 15 games and had 330 plus carries. Then there's seasons he played 11 or 12 seasons and was in the low 200s. Then there's seasons with 16 or 15 games where he's in the mid 200s. Why? He was injured and leaving games, starting the next week, but out at half time. Then he'd start the next week and be out at half time. He had a lot of yards. Good for him. I was going to talk about the quality of the offense around him, but I didn't realize how many years he played with Bruce and Holt. Arguments could be made, but they're highly subjective and not worth it. And I'd be making them only to try to be right, not because I believed them.Gurley never ran behind shit offensive lines like what Jackson had. Gurley never had eight consecutive 1,000 yard+ seasons like Jackson did. Jackson may not have been a top ten pick like Gurley was, but in his prime, he was big, had breakaway speed, was impossible to tackle once he got going, and yes, he never got injured like Gurley did. Even when Jackson was injured (Eagles game when Nnamdi Asomugha tackled him after a long touchdown run on the first offensive play, if I recall correctly), he came back when it mattered and still got his 1,000 yards.
And let's not forget his character. Steven Jackson was the absolute heart of the Rams. He never bitched about anything team-related, never sulked about his coache), even when they were absolute shit like Linehan and Spagnuolo. He gave everything and more for a team that flat-out sucked when he played with us.
Gurley sulked, threw Fisher under the bus, played games with McVay, and tapped out of games on specific downs where we needed him. Yes, I loved TG30 when he played for us, but the guy was not a team player around the end of his tenure here.
And yes, I'd go with prime Jackson - a prime Jackson that had nearly 2,500 yards from scrimmage in 2006, his absolute pinnacle - over prime Gurley.
Memento said 15 times better.Where did I say “fifteen times better”
Look splitting hairs between ED, MF, SJ & TG are fractional imo
Where did I say “fifteen times better”
Well perhaps I’m guilty of not reading the lady’s comment before the one I responded toYou did not.
Memento did.
You jumped in on an exchange a few of us were having with him about his 'fifteen times better' comment.
I was trying to see if you were agreeing with that comment, since your response quoting Memento was his response defending that comment.
Well perhaps I’m guilty of not reading the lady’s comment before the one I responded to
Guilty, of wanton ignorance...damn I hate when that happens!
No. Jackson was a more diverse player. For a big man he had great hands. Jackson was also a true team player..
32 out of 32 teams would pick gurley if both were in their primes.
.
Gurley was an elite RB. He was a better goaline back and had world class speed both of which Jackson didn’t possess. Gurley has been clocked sub 4.3 whereas Jackson was more of a 4.5 guy.
The above Jackson Gif is 20 yards out. He had plenty of speed yes. But not world class speed.I remember SJ having plenty of speed!
