Gurley never ran behind shit offensive lines like what Jackson had. Gurley never had eight consecutive 1,000 yard+ seasons like Jackson did. Jackson may not have been a top ten pick like Gurley was, but in his prime, he was big, had breakaway speed, was impossible to tackle once he got going, and yes, he never got injured like Gurley did.
If you're going to say Steven Jackson was 'fifteen times better' than Todd Gurley, you have to expect some push-back.
Arguing that Jackson was better, and raising viable points like durability, team-talent and leadership ...
like you did ... is reasonable. But 15-times better!?! Come-on.
The above O-Line comment was a little off.
The Rams still had some quality O-Linemen early in Jackson's career ... Pace, McCollum, Timmerman and Nutten, and a few good linemen (but not good lines) came after them.
Gurley's O-Line's in 2015 and 2016 were pretty weak, with Greg Robinson, Tim Barnes, Cody Wichman, Garrett Reynolds, Jamon Brown and Andrew Donnal all being starters at one point. Havenstein had a good rookie year in 2015 but had a poor second season, while Rodger Saffold missed much of 2015.
Jackson was tremendous. A true workhorse and durable (3,200 touches); and played mostly on bad teams. However, he only averaged more than 4.2 yards-per-rush 3 times in 12 seasons, with a high of 4.4 yards-per-rush.
Gurley's career lacked durability (about 1,700 touches), and he played on excellent teams in 2017-2019; plus he did sulk. However, he averaged 4.7 yards-per-rush, or better, three times. At his best (for a short period) Gurley was great.
I would argue that Gurley was great for a short period of time; and Jackson was terrific for a long period of time. I have no issue with an opinion that Jackson was the better back.
But NOT fifteen times better? No.
