As long as he doesn't end up at the Shitcocks, I'm happy.

Les Snead picks up the phone.....
There was one potential trade the Rams could have made for Bell if the Steelers would go for it. Bell for the Rams 4th round pick. The Rams would immediately rescind the franchise tag and hope to get a compensatory 3rd in return.

The Steelers can't get a compensatory pick pick this year because of their FA signings, but the Rams would.

Nope. If the franchise tag is rescinded the player is an immediate free agent with no comp pick in return.

I’m not comfortable having a discussion about this dickhead potentially taking carries from the Offensive Player of the Year, #30

Not sure where you heard that, but that's not correct.

He's right. However, Bell can't be traded unless he has signed the franchise tag. If he signs the tag, it can't be rescinded.

Having to sign the tag makes sense. I remember that was an issue with potential Cousins deals, but a number of outlets have reported the Steelers could have gotten a 2019 compensatory pick by releasing Bell, even now. They just have too many signed FAs.

I'd heard it multiple times, and the CBA does mention that if a tag is rescinded the player is an immediate free agent without draft pick compensation - but then I read elsewhere that when Josh Norman's tag was rescinded the Panthers received a pick, so apparently the CBA passage is interpreted to apply only to tags that have direct draft pick compensation.

If they had during the off-season, I think you're right. I don't think they could get a comp pick if they rescinded the tag now. IIRC, there's a deadline where it is no longer counted in the formula.

Didn't they already calculate the comp picks for 2019?

But wouldn't it be a 2020 comp pick?

Free agent after the 2017 season, even if he isn't signed until the middle of the 2018 season. He hasn't played since 2017, and is not under contract for 2018.

So apparently Bell could demand a no trade clause be added to his deal in order for him to sign the franchise tag
What a whacky situation

I'm pretty sure he has to report for at least 6 weeks or this season won't count and the Steelers can place the franchise tag on him for the same amount.

They could put the non exclusive on him and hope a team signs him though right? And then they could get trade compensation?

IMO this is going to play out until he has to report to earn the accrued year. Then he will sit on the bench and become a FA. And if he thinks this didn't cost him some $$$ he's fooling himself.

Imagine the contract if he would have signed the tag and played lights out this year. Instead he comes across as greedy and selfish.

If I was a GM I don't think I would consider him unless the team was a RB away from being in the conversation about winning it all. He's a risk I wouldn't want to take unless it meant having a shot at a title.
