Why the eye roll? It's not like Corbett hasn't played center well in the past; that's why he was drafted so highly by Cleveland. We should be cross-training our prospects, Corbett, Anchrum, Evans, and Edwards included.

We cannot, I repeat, cannot afford to sit back and say that 2019 was fine for our offensive line. If Havenstein is injured or ineffective, we'll put Evans in at right tackle and go for Blythe at center and switch Corbett to left guard, but if that happens, our season is pretty much shot.

I get that the coaches like Blythe and paid him as they would a starter. I personally don't think it's a good idea.
I can't speak for him but to your comment and why I laughed at another one it's a common theme around here. Rams fans don't trust their coaching staff even McVay. People around here know better than the coaches what should happen. Occasionally a fan will prove right but with so many statements on how things should be done it's little better than pinning the tail on the donkey :D They're not perfect and they're not right but you'd think they were never right with how often fans tell us they know better.

Of course I'm not perfect, but I'm trying to come from an area I think makes sense. I was high on Blythe before 2019, if you do recall. I lost that faith because of the fact that he did not play well that season, much like Havenstein There's plenty of things I like about McVay, Snead, and Demoff, and I know that all of them are smarter about things than I am. If Blythe plays well at center, I'll gladly eat serious crow with a helping of barbeque sauce. But as of now, with what I've noticed, I don't think it's a good idea.

Make all the sense to yourself you want to we all do :) But you cannot deny the simple fact that we fanatics sit here on a message board and pass judgement on the professionals and rail against their stupidity :) It's comical, and I'm not excluding myself from the fanatics rank :D

Hav and Whitworth looked huge on TV...I hope they stay healthy and perform. They tower over the other lineman, except Edwards. Maybe it's just aesthetically appealing, but transitioning their positions to the smaller Noteboom and Evans doesn't excite me.

Not sure but everywhere I've ever worked upper management made poor decisions that I foresaw were bad at the time. The NFL is no different. Yes they work in the NFL and have more expertise than the layman, but some decisions are easier seen when not involved in the making. I believe that some who watch the game and practices could easily perform and make decisions just as well as the team staff.

Sorry because it sounds like your job and past jobs sucked.

No surprises here and anything else wouldn’t make sense.
Really interested to see if Hav can bounce back, how Blythe does at C and of Corbett grows in year two.

i don't know if fans don't trust the coaching staff as much as part of the fun of being a fan is speculation on players or game plans or other things rams related. all i know is if we can't question anything rams related it would get very boring around here so i hope people keep giving different opinions even the opinion that there are to many different opinions. after all it is my opinion that mostly people are pretty optimistic about our team and yet i hear fans don't trust the coaching staff or i'm sick of all the negativity around here.if you noticed how many times opinion was used in this post it is because that is what we are dealing with.

I don’t disagree with you at all. Look though at most of the other comments I’m referring to, I obviously don’t have a problem with people offering opinions as I am not shy in offering mine. What’s funny to me is the comments where people throw ultimatums at the team or those times they call their choices stupid, bad, ignorant, destructive etc etc etc. Obviously we can offer our opinions, our sometimes are right and theirs aren’t, the toxicity and attack nature of some though are just laughable. Like when somebody says “they better get this right!?!?!?”. Or what :ROFLMAO:

Welp, since the discussion turned to the fan forum and OL, I'll just say the fans got it right last year, and the pros didn't. That legitimizes further OL concerns and criticism.

Havenstein is really a key piece for us right now. We need him to get back to that guy he was before. He's never going to be a great pass blocker but at least prior to 2019 he could win ugly. So I'm hoping there was something up with him medically that made him so vulnerable to speed rushes.

If he returns to form it frees up Evans for competition at LG and maybe LT depth. If not it means Evans will end up assuming that role and we'll need to ride through the latter half of his development (he's not quite ready yet IMO).

Problem on all the above of course is that we're not going to see any truth in all that until the pads come on. So these early reports are meaningless even if they are fun to read. :beer2:

Hav better be on a short leash
Having two younger much more athletic, much better potential pass blocking abilities & considerable low cost OT's like Joseph Noteboom & Bobby Evans will certainly place some serious high intensity fire up the Havenstein posterior. Both are capable of bringing out the best 2018 version of Hav! Having a nearly healthy Noteboom participating in team practices is awesome news especially after the negative Chandler Brewer news.

With a healthy Noteboom ready to take up the majority of practice snaps & also spell & provide brief rest periods during regular season games for the overly well seasoned but still an effective pass protector Whitworth is the best scenario for the LT post in 2020.

With center Brian Allen being now a reserve OL'er will certainly force him to sense the magnitude of his position in this new 2020 OL. Allen must demonstrate good ability to play all three interior positions. He will face real for the first time fresh competition from Coleman Shelton, Jeremiah Kolone & Jamil Demby all entering their 3rd seasons too. Then there's two brand-new competitors with OG/RT Tremayne Anchrum & interior OL'er Cohl Cabral.

The 6-5/305 UDFA Cohl Cabral is an interesting new prospect who started two seasons @ Arizona State before being moved (by need) to the starting center post for the rest of the 2019 season.

Also while I'm thinking about it what's the status on the team scrimmages? Are they going to be available for McVay like in previous seasons?

Reason I ask is because if they're not, then I would think the Rams need to have much more physical practices and focus in pads than maybe they had last preseason. Seemed like last year McVay might have throttled back a bit too much on his OL to try to keep them healthy and it backfired.

So I guess last year when Allen went down, Blythe was the #6 Center?

I didn't know they put you in charge of the depth chart. :)

Dude. Corbett knows the snap count and blocking schemes as well as any of the starters.
I don't agree that that he was marginal last year.
Especially when you consider he didn't even go through camp with us or get starters snaps until Noteboom went down.
Yet he came in and did well enough to now be the starter at LG, (just like I predicted by the way) :)
He was a former second-round pick and almost a first-rounder.

Sliding a starting guard over to Center is as old as the hills, especially when that player has already played center in college.

I will be surprised if Allen even makes the team, honestly.

They're, more than likely, only going to bring 2 reserve game-day active offensive lineman to the game.
Evans will be one is he can play guard or tackle.
I am thinking Shelton will be the other one early in the season and Noteboom later on when he heals up.

I think one of his biggest mistakes was not running these guys in the preseason as a unit.

They might have been able to recognize Allen wasn't quite ready and that Noteboom is not a guard.

Having two players in the middle of your offensive line that have not started a game is a recipe for disaster.
