Listening to McVay talk about Jimmy G, I think there is a real possibility that he could be our starter next year if Stafford calls it quits. That includes that they could easily pass on a QB in rd 1 or at least pass on one with that first # 1 pick. That is unless a slam dunk stud QB falls to them or is within range of a small trade up.
They may see Garoppolo as a guy that can play a few more yrs, so they may take a developmental QB in rd 2 or 3 who they can groom for a few yrs. So I don't see them reaching for a QB and passing on a much better talent considering that McVay seems very happy with Jimmy.
Doubtful they see Garoppolo as an answer. Goff wasn't good enough. He is better than Jimmy and a far better fit for McVay due to his ability to stretch it deep. Jimmy's a dumpoff artist. Dude started for us last time and we just about broke NFL records for screen dependency.
But McVay isn't going to admit that. He's gonna talk Jimmy boy up because that's what he always does. Dude acted like Tavon was a fucking Pro Bowler with his own presser when we moved his undersized and shitty ass. Predicting McVay requires ignoring what he says and reading between the lines.
This is why I think 2025 is Stafford's last season in horns. He talks Matt up too and means most of it I am sure. But he and Stafford had to clear the room this offseason to get a deal done. Now Matt is looking at a season without his LT and his back's already fucked up day one in camp.
I know you and I disagree on this stuff. But more than half of this board didn't see Goff coming and that shit was just as obvious as Jimmy not being good enough or Stafford and McVay not being full honeymoon bros any more. Best way to look at QB, IMO, is to realize that McVay always wants as much as possible. He knows the value of that position and will not settle for anything less than ideal.
Now if they draft a QB could Jimmy be a bridge QB? Sure. Possibly. But if things were to go that route I would expect him to bring in another castoff type to compete with him. Jimmy was known to not do his homework in SF and I doubt that has changed. And there is no way in hell that endears him to McVay. Doesn't mean McVay doesn't see the value of a former starter in the WCO as QB2, he does. But McVay is no fool, especially as it comes to QBs.
