I'm real curious when he eventually ends up somewhere else to see how he does. Maybe a different system is all he needs

I'm skeptical. The report on OBJ and Baker Mayfield was that Odell was open in every game and Baker wouldn't throw him the ball. At one point Mayfield even told Odell that he didn't fit the offense. It sounds like a personal issue on Baker's end of it. At this point Baker should be a better leader and team player.

In the words of Colin Cowherd, 'Cleveland is where pass catchers go to get worse'. Landry wasn't as successful as he was in Miami, Beckham wasn't as successful as prior years and Austin Hooper's numbers dropped after a very good run in Atlanta.

.

I watched a few Browns games last season and Mayfield made my eyes hurt. He was utterly useless.

Narratives.

See its odd to me that narratives are molded for each QB.

Remember when MS was traded? Lots of people, including right here on this board, said he was only a stat guy. Empty calories. I.e., Stat Padford. The narrative was he couldn't take Detroit to the playoffs, and if he did, could not win it. In Detroit, it was MS fault.

But for Jared, everything needed to be perfect. Prefect line, perfect run game, perfect WRs, perfect defense, and perfect defense. He had most of those, and even tho it was so obvious he was stagnant in development, Jared was given every pass in the book.

Narratives.

Why is it OK for Joe Burrow to dress like a fool, but when Cam Newton does it, he's the selfish, look at me, prima donna QB? They both have had the same career paths thus far.

Narratives.

It was fine for Deshaun Watson to whine and complain about not being involved in personnel, but if Baker Mayfield had an issue with the play calling, he's a douche? What?

Narratives.

Why was it OK that some players are allotted the "oh he was 21 and did a stupid thing, I did plenty of stupid things in my early 20s" but others aren't?

Narratives.

Justin Herbert is given all the praise in the world, but he has yet to make the playoffs. Why is he so heralded but with a guy like Carson Wentz, who's only fault was he got hurt in their SB year, gets taken to the woodshed?

Narratives.

I could go on and on. To my knowledge, Baker hasn't done anything off field. He's done what? Frustrated with the play calling? IIRC Todd Gurley calling his team's offense middle school was acceptable.

Commercials? Do they really bother people that much? Remember when Robert Griffin III had a shit ton of endorsements, branding, and commercials the moment he was drafted? Everyone loved him. Apparently all that was OK from him, but God forbid Baker Mayfield show up in a commercial.

The Browns were the darling team in 2020. Hell, people loved Myles Garrett smacking around Mason Rudolph in 2019.

Browns were darlings. Except Baker Mayfield. Ok then. Dude has performance issues on field for sure but that can be said for any QB.

Narratives.
Thank you, love this post

Wentz was a media darling at first. His play and lack of availability is his downfall - not some narrative. Just not the greatest example. Especially since Herbert has been VERY good on a meh team while Wentz was good on a team that won the SB with their back-up.

Yeah... no. I didn't hear a single person liking that bullshit - and rightfully so. Were you running out of narratives?

Still not sure how anyone can be a "fan" of two NFL teams, regardless of difference of conference. It just feels.... dirty.

Well the point I was getting at w/ that one is the playoff . I know Justin Herbert is a damn good QB, but he hasn't won anything. Carson is ripped for that, and so was Matthew Stafford. Justin Herbert hasn't? Which is weird.

I don't see how it's wrong. As long as you aren't a fairweather. Who is one to determine how/who someone else roots in sports?

Those are douchebag fans - not a narrative. There was no narrative by any serious person that the Myles Garrett shit was ok.

And I don't really think there's a Wentz not making the playoffs narrative. Maybe it's out there. But more what I saw was that the Beagles wouldn't have made it there without the MVP level play of Wentz. Then when Folds won MVP and the SB, some of the Wentz fan girl aura wore off. Since then, it has been about him being available and when he has been, he just hasn't been very good. He is no Herbert.

Easy but they have to be in different conferences. Favorite NFL team for life: LA Rams (Roman Gabriel and the horns hooked me). Favorite AFC team: BUF Bills (lived there for a couple years when I was young/extended family are mostly Bills fans/best pro sports fans in the world).

I don't think they do anything with Mayfield until they know the disposition of Watson.

If Watson gets anything less than 4 games, they may be inclined to trade him, but if it's 6-8 games... which it could be... than it makes sense to keep Mayfield for the season.

I don't think this question gets answered over the weekend unless someone makes an offer (but literally...who?) or if the FO there just says "F it" and decides to just figure it out and move on.

But yeah, I think they're gonna want guidance from the league on Watson's status before doing anything with Mayfield.

The artist was trying to make a winner….he didn’t have a good reference point lol. I have nothing against Mayfield so I don’t care.
