NEVER ONCE said the Rams were better off without Stafford. I started the thread simply stating some things he's done scares me with the Cards game coming up.

My mistake. And I understand the concern. We‘ve seen him blow up early in games which the rams couldn't recover, we've seen him blow up in games but have a great 2nd half with the rams winning, and just last week, we saw the offense put up 17 in the first half against the niners only to add 7 in the 2nd half and overtime. If it makes you feel any better, Gregg Cossell said his game against the cards in week 14 was his best of the year.

Stafford's issues scare you vs Arizona?

Why so scared?

If he plays nearly perfect and the Rams win by double digits, I'm guessing you will be scared again by him in the divisional round.

Stafford doesn't scare me.

He's already expected to choke in the playoffs.

Stafford is playing with the house money.

Never doubt a QB that is playing with house money.

Sorry...I don't see the same thing...so to each his own.

In fact...it would be fair to say Stafford crumbled against SF.

Take a good look at Stafford numbers after a TO...they are not good.
Second half of Baltimore 0 incompletions.

If the Rams play clean they win. The only way the Cards win is if the Rams gift wrap the game for them. The big weak point will be Havenstein who is overrated matched up with JJ Watt. Havenstein can't handle Carlos Dunlap he will need help with Watt.

Edwards needs to have a better game, he's the weak link inside. I think they will be drafting or signing a vet OG to replace Edwards. He still plays too high and lacks strength.
If the light bulb hasn’t come on wrt the value of OL by now, I don’t think it’s going to. Unfortunately….

4 interceptions in first 8 games. Rams 7-1. derp derp bucs cards derp derp derp derp

13 interceptions in last 9 games. Rams 5-4. titans whiners packers derp cards derp vikings ravens whiners

schedule matters.

it's obviously gonna be harder against better teams. but he looked awful in long stretches in the games. he was terrible all the way during that 3 game losing streak. but he's looked like an assassin in other games with pinpoint and incredible passes.

i mentioned how martz and warner didn't fuss about interceptions because they could always score many more points. generally stafford has been able to overcome the turnovers. however it's been somewhat different this year in a few games for the rams. they haven't been able to put up the points to overcome the turnovers. and stafford hasn't been constrained like goff was with conservative game plans. mcvay has done it his way the whole year, no constraints.

having said that they've only lost 5 games. but in all five losses stafford has looked awful pretty much the whole way except in the first half against the whiners and the go ahead score late in that game.

mcvay has to get stafford playing at his best. if he plays his best the rams will win against any team.

I remember earlier in the season when Stafford said something to the effect of "three guys are open on every play". And it reminded me of the Rams when McVay initially took over. Teams didn't know what to expect from that offense, and it made McVay look like a genius and Goff looked like a star. When Stafford took over, it was McVay 2.0, and the passing offense looked super again. Now it almost seems like defenses have figured out the Rams offense once again, and they are going after the same faults that have haunted us since the super bowl... attack the weak points on the O line, put pressure on Stafford, and limit his effectiveness. I am also starting to wonder if the Rams receiver's routes are taking too much time to develop.

Not having Woods has been a huge factor on the others 2 of 3 not being as open. Beckham is getting better but is still running the wrong route on some plays causing congestion but, it’s to be expected.

I think they should mix in some different schemes to counter the teams who can get pressure. I know Beckham has gotten a slant here and there but not enough of them. Screens to the RBs would be nice. But, as you mention everything seems to be ling developing plays.

12-5 division champ first year with Stafford, lost Akers all year snd Woods half the year. The future is bright.

I've clearly stated why Stafford scares me in this game. Once again::

*He gets jittery with pressure up the middle and gets careless with the ball.

*After a TO...Stafford's play drops off.

Stafford excels when he makes no mistakes. In big games he can start out too hyped too.

When I started the thread, I made it clear I'm happy with Stafford. Just because I'm voicing my concern about this game doesn't mean I'm not in his corner to win...but I won't close my eyes to parts of his play that concerns me.

He's been great.

How he throws that int in overtime... on first and 10.. with 2 minutes left to play.. with Michel wide open underneath.. needing only a FG for a tie...

I have no idea. It's a mind boggling decision and a god-awful throw.

it was the right decision. obj had beat his man. it was just a horrible throw. it's not like he threw it off his back foot. he had the chance to step into it but the pass was just way too short.

Fair enough.

But, to me, part of decision making would be... "can I make that throw right now and is the risk worth it?"

I just don't think it was, especially when we hear he hurt his toe.

When Stafford throws a pick the Rams are 6-5.

We know Stafford's a gunslinger...and I'm really fine with that...but let's be honest...17 picks are a lot.

Earlier in the week Rosenthal article on the QBs put Stafford at #8...and I think that's fair. He also pointed out Stafford's drop off after a TO...that too...is fair!
I just laugh at Rosenthal…his rankings aren’t even his. They’re PFF.

Toe prevented stepping into the throw…I don’t know who didnt notice Stafford limping late in the game.

At least, that’s my take on it. Bad throw.

I got the gist of your post. Never thought you were not in his corner.

Never thought you would close your eyes and ignore your concerns.

My point:

Stafford's not expected to win a playoff game.

If he does, he won't be expected to win a second playoff in the divisional round.

If he does, he won't be expected to win the NFC Championship game.

If he does, he won't be expected to win the Super Bowl.

Therefore, Stafford is playing with house money...

the rams didn't trade all that capital away and not expect him to win a playoff game.

they traded for him so they could win a championship or two.

No. No way.

The Rams won playoff games with Goff. Stafford has never won a playoff game.

For Stafford to get to "House Money", he's got to win at least two playoff games this season.

No wins and Stafford is still the guy who's never won a playoff game.
