Tutu hasn't broken any big runs. But he also hasn't fumbled. And he's low on the roster so risk his ass all you can and cross your fingers that he can grow and improve at it.

He hasn’t dropped any kicks, but he’s lost the ball a time or two on contact.

Once I think it was along sideline, out of bounds… I think there was another that didn’t hurt us either.

There must be something the coaches don’t like at KR.

Tutu really seems like a wasted pick at this point, even more so than when he was drafted. Between the Cards, Rams, and Seahawks its looking like the Cardinals won the draft able speedster sweepstakes. Rondale Moore has been productive on offense.

this is mcvays biggest weakness - he produces great offenses and his teams play competitive Defense.

But special teams the past 2-3 years has been unacceptable.
Well Mcvay inherited the Fisher special teams which were serious business. While they have declined at least we can defend returns again. Hekker and Gay are solid enough. It’s just our returns never returned to Tavon or Pharoah levels.

When the Rams hired Joe DeCamillis I felt they hired one of the better special teams coaches in the NFL, now I'm thinking McVay should just hire someone he likes, who has some upside even if he's an assistant special team coach.
I was shocked after the onside, they were blindsided again and again on fake punts. I would have been in safe mode and not even had a PR back to force them to punt, it's not that hard. Very disappointing and no excuse.

Yep, no excuse. It happens once... ok they got caught off guard it happens. Twice... no good excuse but at least now they know to expect absolutely anything this game. Third time... people have been fired for far less incompetence. Just ridiculous.

I'm trying to find the positive that our special teams completely shit the bed this game, our defense decided to not cover the intermediate middle of the field where Goff likes to throw all day, and our running game found no space against one of the worst defenses in the league yet we still won by two scores. But holy shit, that needs cleaned up immediately.

Exactly there has to be someone on another teams practice squad who can catch a kickoff and has speed and can get the ball out to the 30 or 35 yard line

it would not matter if we got it out to the 30 because we would have a penalty. i think we should just take the touch back and get the ball at the 25. same thing with punt returns just fair catch it and tell the players there is no return so no penalties

I'll say it again: I wanted Bolton then Darden.

Yeah our WR 5 just isn't getting it done.

Right now? He is not. Darden is at least returning punts and kicks for Tampa with a few snaps on offense. Bolton is starting for KC (and I wouldn't blame him for the defense; I blame coaching.)

Atwell, thus far, has done little. I'm not saying he isn't the answer, but there's absolutely room for improvement.

Dwayne Eskridge might have been the alternate pick to Atwell... he started the season on IR and has 1 catch for 6yds. He's having a slow start.

But... It's early for these two.

Maybe he hasn't lived up to his draft status through 7 weeks but McVay barely put Cam Akers on the field during the 1st half of his rookie season...and we needed him far more.
And it turned out okay there.

Atwell was a pick for the future. Period. I know we all want immediate results as fans but the FO didn't draft that way.
If Atwell was on the field and not producing, I would be concerned. But then I would also be concerned about not only him but also either VJ and DJax, because they SHOULD be ahead of him.
I don't know what is reasonable to expect but I'm pretty sure he hasn't really had a chance to show it.

I don't disagree much with any of this, but I'm starting to be a little concerned about the pick. While I don't have a big problem with the Tutu pick.. I find it a little concerning we're not seeing him out there even on punts.

The kick return decisions and execution yesterday were atrocious. Awful. And that's just one component of the worst special teams performance I've seen from the Rams.

I understand that but we didn't draft him to be our KR guy.
If we did, we would be in trouble, but we didn't, we drafted a WR last I knew.

And yet he wasn’t returning kicks over Funk and now Skow, both rookies and later round picks. I get it he’s a futures pick but two other rookies are getting snaps over him. All the excuses for Atwell won’t change that fact and this thread is about special teams. McVay said he was our punt returner as well now he’s not.
