"A contact close to the former Pro Bowler has indicated to Eagle Maven that the Los Angeles Chargers are interested in acquiring Ertz. The Los Angeles Rams also called Philadelphia inquiring about the tight end, but the Chargers' interest is believed to be heavier than the Rams, per a source."

Thought he had more if an injury history than he does. I'd love it but I think he was unhappy with his contract - not sure what we could realistically do with that.

Meh, wouldn't mind having Ertz but much more important things to spend our salary cap on at the moment. Plus, I think Higbee is in for a big year. That might say more about what they think about Hopkins though. I'm really hoping for a big leap from the rookie.

The top te over the final 5 weeks of 2019 wasn't kelce kittle or ertz. It was higgbe. Why can't they just feed him the ball like that.

Get our new online coach to work on his and hopkins blocking then turn them into the new gronk/hernandez duo....without all the murdering....except for on the field....figuratively....except for against the niners

Seems like a bad fit. Ertz turns 31 during season, and wants big-$.
The Rams would be acquiring his contract. He's already signed for $8.2M in 2021. That just seems like a weird fit for the Rams cap situation.

Agreed but Ertz wanted an extension last season, so he would likely be looking for a new deal immediately.

As you pointed out, an $8M cap hit for the Rams, given their cap situation and the presence of Higbee and Hopkins just does not make much sense.

He single-handedly got me to my Fantasy League Super Bowl. I have been thinking he was more injured than advertised last season, because why why why not at least try to replicate that unbelievable streak he had in 2019?

He was unstoppable.

He's very similar to Higbee and his bulk stats have benefited from a huge target share. Higbee did more with less targets last year, for example.

I don't see the point tbh.

Find a time machine. go back 6 years. Sign Ertz for $1.2m. Have him go back to the future and I’m in.

Wow what an interesting coincidence. I've been looking at TEs and considered him last night before I saw his price tag. And I was like "ouch no way we can afford this dude."

Snead doesn't give a F though lol. It'll probably blow up in our faces (he is oft injured) but I welcome improvement at TE.

Oh and btw if we do this it virtually guarantees that Friermuth will fall to us at 57. :ROFLMAO:

Here's the Ertz portion of this PFF article on TEs. Also what they allude to about his ability to get defenders to turn their hips then choose the different direction is what you call an option route which is downright nasty and tough to defend when you have a guy who has that feel for it:

Tier 2: Man- And Zone-Beaters

Zach Ertz, Philadelphia Eagles

As I previously stated, a tight end’s ability to beat man coverage is the most stable metric when grading their potential impact on the passing game. And Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz has the second-highest separation percentage (63.6%) against man coverage over the last three seasons. Ertz also ranks in the top 10 in receiving grade (79.6, ninth) and yards per route run (2.05, ninth) against zone coverage during the same period.

He is equally effective against zone and man coverages, where his combined skill set makes him an excellent fit for both schemes.

Ertz is a skilled route-runner who repeatedly wins separation by working to the edge of a man-coverage defender. He consistently wins leverage by forcing defenders out of their backpedal, where he will then work away from the defender as he turns his hips. His success is less about speed and more about timing and how to work a defender with footwork and fundamentals, but he remains one of the league’s best players at the position.

Wondering to what extent this interest reflects on Hopkins too btw. Clearly they're not high on him that's for sure.

I was about to post that too @Merlin ... any TE talk doesn’t sound good for Hopkins.

The ONLY way I see a Ertz move is moving Kupp to somehow make the dollars work... Jeff takes Kupp’s spot.
