Some fascinating (and agonizing) final cuts coming up, huh?

Of course you would. McSnead wouldn’t. They really like Xavier Jones & we’re willing to role with him in The Playoffs last season.
That’s cool though. We are all playing Saturday night QB.
Willing to roll with him may be overstating things a bit - I mean we are talking about someone who saw zero offensive snaps all season.

He may be the 4th RB this year and he may not - but let’s not pretend like Les ain’t always looking to improve the bottom of the roster as much as he is the top.

Yeah - I guess you have to listen to what Mcvay & Les Snead has been saying.I just watched everything I thought & heard playout.
There is no way I would have been happy 100% if The Rams went into the season as Xavier Jones as there 2nd or 3rd RB.
I personally think he should be cut & brought back on the practice squad.I like a bigger RB on the roster.
Mcvay is opening up his offense without a FB either. Yes they will use a TE,but Sony at 215 is the biggest RB.
—Yes they always look to upgrade, but more importantly The Rams like to develop & give players a chance to succeed. They also trust the system & believe in each other.
X- Jones has shown a lot of growth & has earned the respect of McSnead.I never knew much about him much before the preseason.I’ve had big doubts about him as well. I also have seen his upside & know his character better now.
I’ll be the first to give you props & eat crow if wrong.

Can we do anything with the $5M saved if we cut or trade Hecker? If not then I say we keep him. If we can use that $5M in cap space to sign someone, then I'm all for that route. Hecker had his worst year in a decade so I'd expect a bounce back. Plus, last year was the first year in forever we didn't run a fake punt with him. He's usually good for one a year at least.
Actually imo this young punter BoJo
Will save money down the road. He has more upside. He gets his workouts in with the rest of the team.Real hungry to succeed.
The irony or beauty of it is Johnny Hekker actually has made BoJo a better player through mentoring.
BoJo positives -
Contract-
Strong & young-(70 harder)
Learned The Rams(Hekker) Watermelon punt.
Does well holding for Matt Gay

Correct. I am.

It was an acknowledgment that neither of us know the answer. It's speculation. I prefer the guy who is more proven. I don't think Bojorquez will be horrible. But I do think he's a riskier proposition. That's why I prefer Johnny.
Sad to say IMO

don’t want Johnny to put a old stitch into the new SOFI lockerroom. He has been a Great Ram in a lot of ways.
There were rumors about him taking a pay cut.Brockers & his group were all excellent Rams as well.Johnny Hekker gave back to people & community more than most.
AD99 is a question on his Rams future in 3 years. Is he a Ram for Life?
SJ69 is cool & is giving back.Fumny Dude & helps AD99 stay young.

They dont save 5M. They "save" his 3.75 mill salary, but he's still on the CAP in 2021 for 1.1 mill, then pay Bojo 1.1 mill, & have a 1.2 mill cap hit next year.
Net savings: roughly 300k

Yeah, at that savings I'd probably keep JHekk. If we can somehow get a 7th for Bojo it's a win all the way around.

A 2022 7th may end up being the equivalent of a 5th in most drafts. Right around where we start to see punters picked.

Signing a cheap free agent to push your punter and turning him into a decent pick? You win twice, that’s good biz.

There will be players designated for Injured Reserve and will need to be on the active roster as part of the 53-man roster. That’s where it gets tricky. Players assigned to IR before the 53-man deadline must remain on IR all season. It’s only the players who are assigned to IR after the 53-man roster is established who can be returned to the active roster in as little as three weeks’ time.

Who will we stash for next year, if any, as it’s hardly fair to the player?

Geez, that does make it a little more complicating. So does a player on covid reserve not count or has to count for the 53 too lol? I'm guessing they have to count as the 53.

Well from the list mentioned in the article (Ben Skowronek, Cam Akers, Terrell Lewis, and Ogbonnia Okoronkwo) Akers will obviously be put on permanent IR. Lewis actually played finally so I'm guessing he's healthy enough to be on 53 if they want to keep him. Skowronek and Obo are interesting ones though. It's likely Skowronek doesn't see much playing time, if any, if we have no WR injuries through the year. But likely that we will have at least minor injuries so would be nice to have him if needed. Obo is in the last year of his rookie deal with us so there is no point on putting him on permanent IR just to pay him for no reason. So he's either a cut or on the 53.

Er wait, can’t they still put them on PuP list and be out six weeks but not count? Couldn’t that be where Skow and Obo be put to?

That is a good question. The article misses that and that could be an important way to stash players for now! I am not sure, can anyone else clarify?

You called it @jrry32

They stuck with the seasoned Hekker and he's our 2021 punter.

Even though I preferred Bojo, I'm not upset with this decision.

I won't be surprised if Hekker has a rebound season and has better season than the younger scrappy Bojo.

Gets harder every danged year as Snead continues to load this roster, frankly.

Some doozies that I’m not sure which way they’ll go:

Today really has been fascinating ... and just a little bit agonizing.

Good Call!
