Just got off the phone with an old friend from Seattle. He mentioned that there are rumors that the Hawks might release RB Penny if they can't trade him. The problem is that would make him a UFA and they don't want him to end up in the division. Penny isn't a franchise #1 type RB but he is a decent rotational RB who can play as a 3rd down RB. He can pass protect and catch.

That said my friend agreed that Michel is a steal and will be a difference maker in the Ram's running attack. He wasn't particularly happy that the Rams made the trade. LOL Personally I think Michel potentially will get more snaps than Henderson. At the very least Michel solves their 3rd down RB and short yardage RB role.

I'm not saying teams aren't using analytics. Geez dude anyone reading my posts know I'm a big proponent of analytics. That said PFF uses their own proprietary matrix. NFL teams use their own services be it in house or hired.

All I'm saying is that PFF has been off target too many times. Also, when NFL coaches are asked about PFF they either roll their eyes or say something like we don't use them.

Penny adds veteran depth. Yes - he could easily be more of the cowbell RB for The Rams. HENDO is explosive as they come,it’s his durability that is the issue. Funk is a guy that will run north, south plus find space in between the tackles.

Penny would fit best with Arizona, not The Rams or San Jose team.

Maybe. Maybe not. We're working off a limited sample size.

You seem to be captivated by sample size.

All I said is, I hope the Rams go with Bojo. I like his ceiling.

I also said I wouldn't be upset if they retained Hekker.

Your maybe or maybe not response sounds a little defensive as if Bojo would be a horrible choice for the Rams to keep him over Hek.

I'm okay either way with who they decide to select, but I prefer Bojo.

I guess Your 53 man would be interesting on how many you miss on ? I’m thinking & going out on a limb with 4 TE’s maybe even 5 with the way things are plying out.

Yep - anyone agree ? Plus there is a big reason & a stat PFF doesn’t tel you about NFL teams, especially The Rams.

Darwin Thompson cut by the Chiefs …. Just saying
How is he or Gore also released by KC in pass blocking? if either is good at it, drop Jones and try to get them. I would really like to improve on that 4th RB spot.

Fact is this happens every year with RB fetish’s. The Sony deal was calculated. The rumors stayed true.

The Rams like Xavier Jones, but he seems to be a solid practice squad guy who will clear waivers.
Raymond Calais is interesting as a ir guy. He looked good as a PR/KR guy. Tutu is a guy who I believe The Rams will start out with & use the practice squad in case of injury.

Very presumptive statement and completely 100% false. As more and more franchises expand their analytics departments, there is much more attention paid to PFF, ESPN Next Gen Stats, ProFootballStatistics advanced stats, and SharpFootballStatistics.

In fact many NFL teams have hired directly from PFF, and recruited their talent to help build/design their own analytics teams in recent years, and implemented a lot of PFF ideas.

So when the casual fan disagrees with all their metrics, or even around here there are many that dismiss their ratings as garbage, its a very shallow and lazy thing to do. Do I personally agree with how PFF grades out every position? No I actually don't like the way they evaluate the secondary, but OL/DL, QB, WR, RB are all excellent resources to have IMO. The amount of data they look at on every single play regardless of the outcome allows for a more objective evaluation, versus just looking at the end result statistics.

Nowadays I would say majority of teams are utilizing some if not all of these sites, and/or have created their own analytics using similar principles. The era of the "non thinking coach" is fleeting as technology and access to information grows by the day.
While I don’t pretend to know what goes into PFF ratings I believe it is a valid source for objective comparative analysis.

Word, I can't remember a time when the cuts were tougher than this year. You guys can have Gore for nothing now. Just stake a claim.

It was an acknowledgment that neither of us know the answer. It's speculation. I prefer the guy who is more proven. I don't think Bojorquez will be horrible. But I do think he's a riskier proposition. That's why I prefer Johnny.

If they keep 4 TEs which I don't think they will, they probably will release Mundt. He's dead weight IMO. That is the question in their minds. Do they carry 3 or 4? If it's 3 then it's got to be Higbee, Harris, Hopkins. If they carry 4 than they will add Blanton.
McVay seems to love Mundt though

I’d cut XJ for him myself.
Of course you would. McSnead wouldn’t. They really like Xavier Jones & we’re willing to role with him in The Playoffs last season.
That’s cool though. We are all playing Saturday night QB.

Can we do anything with the $5M saved if we cut or trade Hecker? If not then I say we keep him. If we can use that $5M in cap space to sign someone, then I'm all for that route. Hecker had his worst year in a decade so I'd expect a bounce back. Plus, last year was the first year in forever we didn't run a fake punt with him. He's usually good for one a year at least.
