Love and trust McVay. But is there anyone who thinks we should NOT go get a RB?

Logic for me being that we won't be able to properly evaluate these guys with the backup OL, and it's not worth risking it when there are options out there.

I voted yes. Purely because I wouldn't mind a proven veteran or someone that runs tougher, another Malcolm Brown.

Jones is shifty but goes down by minimal contact. Funk looks tougher but isn't as shifty. Calias is speedy, but that's it. They all look good as college RBs. But looked like camp bodies out there.

With that said, the interior OL didn't move anyone, so it's hard to say if the RBs are a problem. I did still vote yes, however.

I wanted a runningback in this last draft, so you know my answer.

Neither Henderson nor Akers went all season without injury. A team can never have too many runningbacks. Three experienced guys are a must imo. If you only have two then RB should be a priority in the draft.

Funk is a year away from contribution IMO. Jones didn’t get much room to work but does appear to lack power. So a RB2 to add thunder to Henderson’s lightning appears imminent.

for me - it’s all about pass blocking ability. If these youngsters are showing the aptitude and the willingness to protect Stafford, then I’m ok with what we have. If not, then yes, we need to go get Lev Bell or Guice or some other vet who is hungry and angry.

From the Goff era I learned nothing protects a QB better than a run game the D can't handle. Staff processes things quickly, has pocket awareness and evasiveness, so I'd try to put together the best run blocking unit I could.

so the problem with picking up an RB from cuts is the Rams are low on the waiver wire. I am wondering if Snead is monitoring certain RBs and letting their teams know there may be interest in a trade should they decide to cut a targeted RB.

Just no way to tell from that pile of :crap:from what the OL did ........makes it extra hard for experienced all pros to run through it.

Just depends on which old worn-down gimpy veteran RB is looking for a job when the final cuts hit. Should be around a dozen or so.

As others have said I'm not there yet due to the fact our oline was atrocious yesterday in the run game. McVay said earlier this month that RB is the hardest position to evaluate in practice and I think that holds true for preseason games too. If someone the Rams really liked became available then sure why not but if Jones, Funk, and Calais are doing their jobs in the given play and just being hit in the backfield on the run plays I can't ding them for that.

I've stated before that Snead and Co are always on the hunt to improve the roster. For now, I voted NO. They should be looking for the right fit. Some differing opinions on Funk and Jones. They didn't get any help from the offensive line to fully evaluate them but, I think the Rams can find a better option.

Jones didn't show much power.

Funk showed some good power and hands.

Akers was a huge loss.

A strong running game is critical to what the Rams want to do on offense. So much of the off-season discussion about Stafford was that he rarely had an effective running game in Detroit. A lot of posters here questioned whether Henderson was a good enough #2 RB. He's going to need help. Maybe Jones or Funk can contribute. However, I think the Rams must add a veteran RB by the end of Pre-season or early Regular Season; and I think they know it.

All that being said, Urgency could make the right move more difficult.

There's no reason for McVay to publicly express any urgency. That would serve no purpose. It could undermine the current (young) RBs on the roster; and make a minor transaction more difficult. If a team has a RB on its bubble and sees urgency from the Rams, getting that player could be more challenging and costly.

So the way to play it is exactly how the Rams are playing it ... publicly state "Don't panic, all is well."

Sean McVay is personable and engaging; and just like the miserable / obnoxious / ugly fuck that is Bill Belichick, McVay says Nothing. He just says nothing in a much nicer and more charming manner.

RBs tend to come available. "That Guy was Cut!"
C.J Anderson was just out there ... released twice during the 2018 season ... got picked-up and fit in great.

If a team is ready to move-off a veteran RB, it may be happy to get a 6th round pick from the Rams instead of an out-right release. However, the Rams don't want that team ... sensing desperation ... asking for a 3rd or 4th round pick.

I don't know what type of RB the Rams may target. My guess is that they will look for someone with a running style that fits what they want to do. Akers and Henderson struck me as one-cut-and-go RBs. I don't think that someone like Le' Veon Bell fits that style.
