I agree.
Last year's teams were really terrible. Possibly dead last imho.
This year our punt coverage has been really good. Kickoff coverage is easy when you kick it out of the end zone as many times as we did. Plus we are making our field goals for the most part (Karty needs to do better on extra points).
However, our punt return is probably below average and kick return is average at best. Whittingham doesn't have enough speed to be a really good one. I do like how he makes the most of the yards that he can get without that speed. There were a couple times where if he had one more step he would have been gone.
100% on everything. I said in this thread earlier the numbers I think our PR is about 1.7 yards below league average which isn't good but we're a yard better than last year which is progress. Kick returns I think we were exactly league average or within like .1 or .2. Good enough? Not really it's acceptable but could be better.
Also for the record I looked at the rankings for best ST based on estimated PPG by team. You take the top 14, there was a tie so it went down that far, only 3 were playoff teams in Tampa, Pittsburgh and Detroit. The other 18 on this all tied for last with a 0.0 ppg gain on teams. The top had 1.3 and that was Dallas.
Going by return yard average take the top 11, top 3rd of the league roughly, and 4 are playoff teams. Punt returns looks the same, side note Detroit has really good return teams.
Another side note the WR I wanted us to draft a few years ago Ihmir Smith-Marsette is doing really good with returns but is only a 4.43 guy so it doesn't need to be blazing speed it's that short area acceleration/burst to get thru the holes. Whittington had a very similar 40 times just doesn't seem to have that quick burst.
