Everything is negotiable of course... but I would highly doubt the 5th year option would he removed from anyone drafted under the current system.

I don't think contractual details dictated by the CBA can be modified. The CBA is pretty ironclad and as the saying goes the rules are the rules.

Likely yes. But it depends on which player is available at #31.

Just my opinion but I doubt if there is a player that far down the line that Snead would value more than extra draft capital. He loves wheeling and dealing.

And he only has one sixth rounder this year so he is bound to make some moves.

Interesting discussion. In the bad old days, needed to accumulate as many picks as possible to improve the roster quickly. Last year, no pick until round 3, needed to accumulate more picks to make up for not having a pick in the first 2 rounds, hoping to hit on someone late.
This year, coming off 13-3, 1 starting DL spot still in question, will have all your draft picks in 2020 except a 5th rounder, dont think they need to accumulate draft picks as in the past. Pick your guy at 31.

Gulp. Think how different things would look had we not hit on Noteboom in the 3rd. :shocking:

And I recognize I’m assuming he’s a hit.

Never know Snead could trade that first this year for a first & a second in 2020 too IF lets say that QB like Drew Lock falls to us.

Well, the adage is, you must have a partner to dance and the Los Angeles Rams must have a trade partner and value in order to make a trade. Again, if the value is there and you can add an additional pick or picks, then you always consider a trade down.

What I find amazing is the number of fans, who always communicate about trading down, but I believe if your guy is there, make the damn pick. It cost the Rams back in 2012 the Rams tried to get cute as linebackers Bobby Wagner & Mychal Kendricks were still on the board in the 2nd round and the Rams could have had their choice, but they traded down for an extra pick and by the time their pick was ready at 50th, Kendricks had gone to the Eagles and Wagner to the division rival Seahawks and the Rams ended up with RB Isiah Pead and have been peeing their pants ever since.

I call BS !! Should have traded back with Greg Robinson !! I call it the gift that kept giving. Would have signed RG111 & stillngad all the picks for him.

Brockers has worked out ?? Pead was a Tru pick !! Or was it JJ ?? That draft Snead messed up with a RB, but he did see value in TG.

The Rams traded back & got TJ & still got O”Tree !!

The year before last Everett was there guy. If The Rams missed out ? Who knows they could’ve had Kittles ?? Snead still got JJ43 form FREE - I don’t call that piss !! I call that good shit right there.

Interesting to be able to see Les Snead work with McVay with an early pick ?

The Rams value talent. Cooks was equal to a first rd pick last season. If there is a top talent pick at a need, I believe The Rams stay put ?? Then again how much does Les Snead trust his scouts & add more depth ??

The Rams seem to have a lot of high needs ? CB, DL,OL,TE So to me I’d trade back to fill those 4 position with 2nd & 3rd rd picks.
Meaning maybe even trading picks next year as well to equal value of top picks ??
Multiple trades to work the draft board.

Les Snead is awesome with the phones. The scouting for The Rams have been amazing.I think Snead has an excellent feel for prospects ratings vs The Rams scouting.

So we have an entire article about applying Moneyball principles to the draft without using the term "Moneyball". It's almost like the author/editor knew that talking Moneyball would turn people off or something. Yeah, talk of valuations, value, market inefficiencies, irrational behavior, etc., it's Moneyball talk -- applied to draft capital instead of greenbacks.

And like was pointed out, the Browns, with Captain Moneyball, Paul DePodesta, in the draft room haven't really had that much draft success. The same criticisms of regular Moneyball apply here too -- e.g., as also pointed out, MoneyBall will get you a quantity of serviceable players, but not so many high quality apex predators.

Should the Rams trade out of the 1st? Too soon to tell.

I don’t see it like that at all !!

Bill Walsh did it back in the day.

Bill Bellacheat does it in modern day. Les Snead calls in a season or playoff competition in itself. You must win your division year in & year out. Then win around the league.

There is a value in draft picks. The Rams have been earning Comp picks for this reason as well. If you can pocket a draft pick for a player you still want to draft, you do it.

Les will move up in a draft as well, but moving up for a Tavon Austin can be killer.Staying put for a Donald or a Todd Gurley you do !!

Had to go back and look at some Ram 1st round drafting history since Snead came aboard.
The only 2 years a 1st rounder was not traded or traded for was 2014, pick 13 was some dude name Aaron Donald. 2015 pick 10 was not traded or traded for and the pick was another dude named Todd Gurley.

Now of course picking at 31 will be challenge, but considering the history of staying in your first round spot under Snead, the hopes have to be high.

So many options but in McSnead we trust. As long as they add future (week 1, week 8, 2020) starting talent to the OL and DL then primary mission accomplished. I love Simmons and Risner as future starting talent but can live with any combination of 2 of the following:

Simmons, Wilkins, Risner, Lawrence, Saunders, Dremont Jones, Bradberry, Tillery, Jenkins, Lindstrom, McCoy, David Edwards, Michael Jordan in their first 3 picks.

Dremont too small to play nose he is a 3. Till might be in that same category. I will say, both would be solid replacements next season if Brockers can't be resigned.

I honestly think if the two big NTs aren't there at 31, the Rams trade back and grab Jenkins since he can play center or guard (like your post says).
