I think if Morris just blitzed a bit less and we tackled a bit better a lot of ills would be solved. Not all, not like we'd get back to last years D but it would make a noticeable difference.

If Ramsey sticks to his assignment on the Swift screen TD.. what does the game look like?
Yeah, closer to decent than not, but need to tighten stuff up.

Well...looking at the poll...it's OVERWHELMING that Morris ain't a problem. The fact is...coaching was the problem.

I say again that after Detroit came back with a fake punt...for the Rams to not be ready for other tricks was absolutely on McVay!!!

I am seriously not a fan. Bend don't break is a prescription to fail in the long run. Run D is bad wait to we hit Tennessee or SF. Defense overall plays to soft. Better QBs will pick us apart.

Like I say when McVay replaced Fisher we spared 4-12 to 11-5 in one year. Coaches and their schemes matter. Look at Staley and look at him vs Lynn with the Chargers. Great DCs make a big difference.

What makes Morris look better than he is Stafford and our Offense.

And new defenses get studied.
And teams lose players, year to year.

The defense ain’t great, but it’s improving, imo.

Didn’t hear many posters complain about Wade Phillips’s scheme during our 2018 Super Bowl run; that defense was notorious for giving up big plays as well

I’ll reserve my complaints to Morris’s scheme when it costs us playoff game
Yeah and Wade had two major strengths going for him...

1. His track record proved that when he had the right pieces a great defense would follow.

2. Nobody was going to hire him away as head coach.

He also had a third strength, that being his ability to teach McVay that side of the ball. But McVay learned Wade's scheme I'm sure and wanted that quarters scheme and to his credit has handled things pretty well post-Wade.

I do miss that old bastard though. Hell of a guy there, very entertaining personality.

As frustrating as it is letting teams dink and dunk on us all day, we are showing improvments.

Also, Morris has shown the ability to make changes, Rochelle in for Long, Rapp closer to the LOS, etc.

That being said, we have gotten pretty lucky with turnovers in the redzone, and I don't think they will always be so easy to come by.

Curious, what are the Chargers defensive ranks since Staley took over? Last time I saw them they were getting smacked up by the Ravens.

This should hit some nerves.

Sean McVay pleased with how Rams defense has performed thus far

The defense of the Los Angeles Rams was a primary focus during the offseason due to Raheem Morris replacing Brandon Staley as the defensive coordinator. Through the first seven weeks, it’s safe to say that Sean McVay is liking what he’s seeing from the defense thus far.

“Each game’s a little bit different narrative. I thought they did a good job yesterday. I thought there was a couple of loose yards that they got in the run game, but I do think you got to give credit to (D’Andre) Swift and (Jamaal) Williams are two really tough physical backs,” McVay said Monday. “I thought they leveled some runs off and they caught us in the one third down on a blitz. It’s an excellent call right there. That’s one of those deals where you say, ‘Hats off to them,’ on the first long touchdown. But I thought we made our plays when we had to and I think through seven games, I think they’re really opportunistic. I think we’ve got some special players that elevate everybody around them. When you talk about Aaron (Donald) and Jalen (Ramsey), I think Leonard Floyd’s played like that as well.”
It was a slow start for the Rams in Week 7 versus the Detroit Lions, falling to a 10-0 deficit in the first quarter. Following a 63-yard screen pass to D’Andre Swift that went for a touchdown on the first drive, Los Angeles held the Lions to four field goals for the rest of the contest.
McVay name-dropped Aaron Donald, Jalen Ramsey and Leonard Floyd as guys who are playing at elite levels right now. Along with those guys, McVay has been impressed with the growth of other players like Sebastian Joseph-Day, A’Shawn Robinson, and Terrell Lewis.

“I think you’re seeing guys really continue to get better. I think you look at Sebastian Joseph-Day taking steps in the right direction. I’ve been pleased with A’Shawn. It’s been good to see Terrell Lewis healthy. A lot of guys on the back end that are making big-time contributions, but I think they’ve done a really nice job. There’s always things that we can improve on, but overall I’m pleased with them,” McVay said.
You would think the Rams have one of the worst defensive units in the NFL if you were to check Twitter. But in the first seven weeks, Los Angeles boasts the No. 4 ranked defense in Football Outsiders’ DVOA. As the Rams prepare to go up against the Houston Texans in Week 8, McVay is happy to see where his defense is currently at.

I think it's more of people think he's part of the problem but firing him won't fix the problem. Give them the chance to get better and see where it goes. Not sure there's somebody out there on the streets right now or under him as a position coach that's a better option.

Yeah this is wild.

Teams that have scored 20 points against the Rams defense: Arizona. Tampa Bay. (Colts was a blocked punt, D gave up 17). Those are two of the best offenses in the NFL, if not the best.

Crazy that we're talking about firing the guy. Spoiled from last year I guess.

I wasn't aware it was that good. But I think most people are seeing the dink and dunks going crazy against us, but that really hasn't translated into points, has it? And we did lose a few good players from last years defense, so a step back was to be expected, but we aren't as bad as most of us think we are.

And the only game the defense played badly was against AZ. And the whole team played like shit in that game, so yeah.

You don't fire a DC when the team is 6-1 and will soon be 8-1. Offseason is when you make changes like that.....

Imagine Fisher running our Defense with McVay running the Offense?

Fisher's teams would limit the other side to 12 points, and the only way we could win was by kicking 5 FGs to score 15 points.

We could win every game like 31-12 with both of them.

We ran a 4-3 defense with Fisher. We don't have the right players for that style of defense.

Floyd is a 4-3 end, and Lewis is too. If anything we have the wrong personnel to run the 3-4, which we don't actually run anyway.
