I have always felt like McVay doesn't prioritize special teams. Remember Fisher? He would tell bottom roster types that X roster spots were open and they'd run a ST practice for guys to win them. McVay is much more about keeping guys with some upside mixed in with those ST core types.
That said they did a good job this year I thought by identifying bottom roster types who will help on teams (Skow, Harris, Funk) so he's started to prioritize that a bit more. Maybe he just needs a ST coach who he trusts when he tells him that they need a little more focus or time or personnel dedicated to that phase. Or a ST coach with a dynamic personality who will jump on his desk and get what he wants.
