Shelton and rookie going at it huh? That’s a good sign for Bruss I think if it’s still a competition.
This is the biggest reason I would think Bruss would be given every opportunity to win the RG job over Shelton. Sheltons greatest value to me is backing up all three interior line spots. All McVay said on the video is that Shelton can play all 3 interior line jobs very well, something we already knew. This is being blown into something that it is not, ... and no-one has nailed down the day 1 starting RG job yet. Sheesh ...
Yea me neither. I think many just assumed Bruss would win the starting role, or want him to start because he's the bigger body. But I just want the better player to start. If Bruss wins the starting role thats great and Shelton is a very good, versatile backup inside. But if Shelton wins the job then good shit he's obviously earned it and is playing better.I don't find anything about what SMV said concerning. Maybe it's just me
Lol. I can't wait for the season to start....
Honestly, IMHO the hype of this thread title is even a notch above the hype in the Skyler Carlin article.
McVay says Shelton playing well. Not exactly clear yet what McVay means by saying Shelton is "separating himself" and "playing well at all 3 interior spots."
Didn't sound to me like McVay said anything definitive about who would win the starting RG spot. Not yet anyway.
Good point. I should have worded that better.WOW! I read the headline and thought we had pulled off a major trade.
I will say the general sentiment that Shelton is ahead of Bruss seems to be consensus.. .right now. Jourdan alluded to it in the latest 11 personnel.Yea me neither. Unlike previous years with Kromer I'm much less concerned about the OL now that we have Carberry. Last year with Allen's play, Shelton filling in, and Noteboom starting for Whit, it proved our OL coaching & development has improved. With Noteboom looking pretty dominant versus JPP and Shaq Barrett in the TB game too. Im not worried about how it shakes out tbh.
Yeah I'm not sure why this worries people. It just means Shelton is playing really well which isn't a bad thing! It's a long season and injuries will happen. Good to know we have depth here and even better if we know Shelton can play guard and center well if needed and a hungry rookie waiting to take the reigns. Also is good news next year if we let Edwards walk.I thought Shelton was the best Center last season. I think he starts at RG.
Um okay - I personally didn't think you overreacted in this thread lolSorry for the overreaction fella's.
Yeah I'm not sure it's an overreaction either. Well ok the title probably was but there's room for interpretation in the comments. Also Bruss' advantage, which is the power in his game, is why they drafted him. So they still want that power in the lineup the window for him might just be slid back a bit. Not a big deal.Um okay - I personally didn't think you overreacted in this thread lol
"So, fans... would you agree that the team should start whichever player they believe is performing at the highest level?"
"Of course!"
"So, what if the player the team feels is playing the best is not the player you thought would win the job?"
"Oh, well... then that's a problem."
That's an entirely different point. That might depend a bit on just how close player A and player B are performing. If, for example, Coleman Shelton is playing at a 9.5 level and Logan Bruss is playing at a 9 level, then I might actually go with Bruss for 2 reasons, ... 1) is that for a new developmental player doing this well so soon, more playing time should only boost his confidence while the game slows down for him and his true ability surfaces quicker. 2) The risk of injury to Brian Allen/Coleman Shelton jeopardizes our Center position as there is nothing really behind them at this time.
If the separation between players is greater and perhaps not so much a depth risk, then adjust accordingly.
jmo.
