I agree but then there's been rumors going on for a while now regarding the Jags being Londons first team. They keep playing games there and the NFL has said that they want a permanent team in London one day.

There were rumors about the Rams in LA for the last 4-5 years and I remember in the begging people shot that idea down and some said it's never going to happen. I don't trust the media but where there's smoke there's fire.

Khan doesn't have to sell the team he could just move there or sell a minority share to someone in London.
Oh I don't don't there there are likely very serious discussions going on about putting a team in London, I just doubt this whole 'master plan' being put forward about Khan buying Spurs as well so he can have them and the Jags playing in the same stadium.
There has been nothing to suggest he has any intention of selling Fulham and nothing to suggest he is interested in buying Tottenham. I'm looking at this more from the 'soccer' perspective.

Not really a prohibitive lease. He'd have to write a $100 million dollar check to get out of the lease at worst. There is no lease, no league rule or bylaw that is iron clad and can't be ignored or simply changed. While I don't see the feasibility of an NFL team in London these rumors are not new.

100 mil is a bit prohibitive even for him. I agree with you that nothing is going to happen with London.

Khan could afford it if he thinks the Jags would be worth more in London. His net worth is 4.6 billion.

Like @BuiltRamTough says if it increases his franchises value significantly that's nothing for what's the 3rd richest NFL owner? Last list I saw had him 6th but that was a couple Billion below his current estimated value. So he could be anywhere from 3rd to 6th.

NFL is retarded.

The way forward is to reinstitute NFLE but with more teams, set salaries that are low and sustainable, and continue growing the brand overseas. That is how the NFL seized the US market, and they could do very well in Europe due to what a great game it is. They just have to be patient.

Moving a US team to London is idiotic. So many issues with it that the chance of failure and damaging their reputation in Europe is likely.

What they should be doing is looking ahead 20 years and imagining a Super Bowl between US and European teams. Grow that European league slowly and eventually over time sell the franchises and stand them up as a rival league. More jobs for the kids out of college, and while it will dilute the talent pool the business of the NFL would be best served long-term.

He just spent like $500M on acquiring the Shipyards in Jacksonville so he can have a huge practice facility and such, along eith hotels and parks. They aren't moving, trust me, from someone who lives in the area, I can tell you he's committed to Jacksonville.

The only reason the Jags are playing there is because the Rams backed out on the agreement. I think that negates the validity of your theory.
The stuff you said about the Rams and LA seems dead-on... unfortunately.

The Rams and Jaguars are probably the only two teams who would agree to three consecutive years of games in London that counted as home games. Why? They're two of the teams most likely to leave their home markets. It makes perfect sense.

Lazy journalism this. No way would the owners of Tottenham sell. They are bankrolled by a bloke called Joe Lewis who lives in the Bahamas and is minted. Tottenham is his team and I just can't see him selling.

I've not read much about this Tottenham/NFL deal as I despise Spurs with a passion, as should Kroenke as he's involved with Arsenal. I really don't think a team should relocate to London anyway, the NFL is American and should stay there. I don't mind the few games they have still coming over, but even that seems a tad unfair on the home fans that might miss out on a regular season game.

No team is gonna go to Europe, if Europe wants football they're going to try their own league again before they get one in the NFL.

Nobody's going to want that, NFLers aren't going to want to go play there with all that jetlag affecting their performances, every rookie is gonna pull an Eli refusing to play for them because no kid is going to want to uproot his entire life in the states to go to London, owners aren't going to want to deal with the headache that comes from all this new stress and nobody wants to be the owner to set all this shit in motion.

I don't see a team moving to Europe. It just won't work logistically.

Additionally, I am not a fan of expansion. The game is watered down already. Let's face it; only so many people on earth can play at that level.

I think having a permanent team in London is a disgrace on multiple levels. I do not want to wake up at 5AM on a Sunday morning on the west coast to watch a football game.

That being said there's going to be a team or two in Europe in the next 10 year. Bet on it. The NFL can't help themselves they're too greedy.

PS. I'm European :)

Could this be just another negotiation ploy? Another attempt by a money grubbing owner to fleece local government to give the team more than they deserve? Seems like it to me. Is it just business as usual by the new NFL; squeeze any entity that has money and hide your actions with deception.

I am with Mark Cuban on this being the beginning of the end in U.S. Sports Market dominance for the NFL. At some point fans, TV stations, advertisers, cities and governments all take a stand and say "I'm as mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore". It will be a gradual process, and the NFL won't lose the diehards. Major League Soccer is increasing in popularity. The Women's team shattered TV ratings with their World Cup win. The USMNT still suck, but if they can have better showings on an international stand, they too can capture the hearts of America. Soccer, my friends is the next frontier. Again, it will not take down the NFL...but it offers a less expensive option for fans, TV stations, advertisers, cities and governments and will help in the erosion of the NFL's popularity.
