Maybe a while for Edwards.
He gave up a lot to rookies and backups in the preseason.
Allen for beaten a couple of times. Havenstein got beaten badly once.
The left side was very good pass blocking.
Don't forget Blythe. The weak spot on our OL in pass pro is the right side A gap because of his tendency to get crushed on some rushes. But also because we have a young Center who needs to settle in and be faster in his pass pro decision making (being a beat slow to help Blythe can result in catastrophe). I'm pretty sure the Saints will be challenging that gap pre-snap to try to test that.

LT might still be drafted this offseason, particularly if one they like is there end of round 1. If they like Boom there then they're in much better shape, and it becomes a question of who fills those two roles. So hopefully at least one of our two rooks will show enough through the season to instill the faith they had in Boom & Allen..........................

 I expect Snead to have his scouters put the RIGHT OG 2020prospect under the microscope over LT/RT/LG & center. RG's are usually easy finds on the 2nd day of the draft. Not sure why Snead did not get one yet.

The Center post would appear to be in better shape now with trio Allen/ Shelton/ Kolone under contract. Same could be said for the RT post with Quartet Havenstein/ Evans/ Edwards & Brewer. The LG post has Five lined up Noteboom/ Edwards/ Brewer/ Shelton/ Kolone. LT prospect are always a big interest for NFL teams. Second day selection top OL pick Bobby Evans sure looked far behind Edwards @ LT.

IMO if Evans has not been selected in the 3rd round he would not be on the 53 player roster & OT/OG Chandler Brewer would be.

If he lasts until #32 this should be the pick

No doubt. Have to think they'll look hard at OG types, maybe even the OG/C types for that matter too, since one of those guys would help us with that Center depth.

Think you're being a bit too hard on Evans too btw. He was clearly thinking too much when they were flipping him left/right side in the first game, but seemed to settle in a bit once they kept him right side. IMO he's still got a chance to factor in at OG for us, as well as RT depth. Rams gonna have all season to rep him along with Edwards and make sure they know what they have.

It definitely seems like the Rams are fully dedicated to drafting outside the early range for their OL. Snead did allude to that years ago, and Kromes seems to be content to do that and work the draftees during the season. But IMO it's important to remember the Rams now are a "draft and develop" team with a top OL coach, vice being one of those teams who has to hit on a guy who is ready to start in the draft.

So by that perspective we should be able to sit back and enjoy watching him develop our two young tackles.

There is a ton of pressure placed on an NFL center. Having no real NFL regular season game experience going into the Carolina gm. I would expect this young inexperienced center to have some rocky moments going up against one of the better defenses in the NFC.

Kromer had a big hand in the drafting of Brian Allen. BA is smart condensed & able to move real well which he demands in his scheme. I would expect BA's road to smooth out after he gets warmed up & his barrings. :giggle:

I agree with you and Old School as well. There are some things Allen does well, namely, he's smart, exceptionally quick and technically real solid. When he gets to his block angle he creates nice lanes being in position and walling his man.

And he is young so there may be some improvement coming.

But My problem is in pass pro and some runs His man is more than a few times destroying him and getting into the backfield way too quick. And some are rating our Oline performance an A-, which is no where near where they should have been rated against Carolina.

Sullivan was an average center in my book. Allen is currently a notch below that in pass pro as it stands. I'm rooting for the guy to get better and think its possible, but its not all roses right now.

Blythe also had some horrible whiffs in this game, so between the two of these dudes on our right side, we have some real challenges ahead.

It only takes a few games of consistent whiffs for a QB to start getting uncomfortable in the pocket which has a snowball effect for the whole offense.

Good thing for Goff and us, Mcvay incorporates a bunch of rollouts and PA that offsets a direct rush.

I wouldn't count out Evans for one of the potential openings in the future. He's not as far along as Edwards (which surprised me), but he'll likely be competing for a starting guard slot.

If we're thinking draft next year, 3-4 end is where I focus the 32nd pick on, especially since we cut Franklin-Myers and Brockers being a potential salary cut next year. After that is cornerback with Peters and Talib both free agents.

After rewatching the game I actually like Allen's quickness/intensity for sure. He seemed ok most of the game esp. on runs, but that mid 2nd Q drive was killed solely by Allen, letting Short blow by him on both 2nd and 3rd down. It seems like those few lunges/whiffs in passpro are a fixable technique thing though, like he was just being too aggressive?

I personally never once doubted that Noteboom and Allen would play well. What I'm loving is how well they will be playing by the end of the season. They are still growing, and as they improve their techniques, and the games begin to slow down, their play will really begin to improve.

I'm curious to see what they do at the end of the season at RG. I see Brewer as an intriguing possibility. They liked him early and played him a bit and now he's on the PS.
