I have to say, I am so impressed with what Kromer has done this year! I watched a lot of football this weekend. The best pass protection I seen was from the Rams and Patriots. I really thought our oline played a great game, on the road, week one and against a good team.

Not so sure that means SJD had a bad day though?

I do remember Donald being pushed back while playing 1T on a successful rush up the middle. I also remember seeing some successful runs up the middle with the Rams playing 3T 5T.

But I don't remember them running at SJD when he was out there, though I wasn't necessarily looking that closely at the DL every play.
He had some good and bad. On the Panthers first touchdown he was pushed back which created the lane for McCaffrey.

Why were you surprised? Don't trust Kromer? Good teams do that every year. Pats started a guy at LT who missed his entire rookie season due to injury. I think our two young players performing well was the expectation and they of course lived up to it.

Aaron Kromer knows what's up.

Well, if that’s is written in stone then why isn’t Eldrenkamp the starting center?

On the Marcus Peters unsportsmanlike penalty call...

Can somebody explain to me what he actually did to earn that. They glossed right over it on my TV feed here in Orlando. I have no idea what he did at all to deserve that call.

He got in Newton's face after the INT and taunted him. No idea what he said but he was in there a bit too much and then did the "dab" that Newton used to do.

He earned it. It was dumb.

It was a hell of a game by those two. Heck, the whole offensive line was great!

We need a repeat performance this week! Build on it.

We’re still likely to see some “rookie” mistakes, so remain patient when we do.

And the best offensive line coaches in the game Aaron Kromer & Dante Scarnecchia

I'm surprised Allen didn't show a lot of blemishes to start the season, I suspect he might be the weak link this season.

No surprise with Noteboom's performance however; I wouldn't be surprised if he's on par with Whitworth's skill set by midseason: Having someone with similar tangibles teach the ropes will skyrocket the learning curve

If so, likely because the rest of the line will end up so good. I doubt he will be a big star, but I expect him to be solid this year, and a bit more than solid for the next two seasons before he hits free agency.

He's a technically sound guy who was a wrestler to boot. He plays stronger than expected because of that. I'd like to have better backups, but I always wish for better backups.

It's a lot like the media and other fans and Goff. They saw how bad he was his rookie year and a couple games and no matter what he does he's bad or a bust. Well with Allen most people here didn't like the pick and so they can't believe he'll be any good. Regardless of what the coaches say about him and what we see in him he'll likely never be good enough. And Allen isn't the only one like this there are many others who for that reason and where they drafted will never be good enough for some.

I was at the game and couldnt see too much, but I did see Short put Allen on his ass twice when they were on my side of the field.

A seven year vet two time pro bowler should be able to put a center on his but a more than just a couple times in his first start.

Not disagreeing with you here at all, but it needs to be said that Isaiah Wynn was a 1st Round pick at LT and a dominant blocker in college. He would be expected to start on almost any team, even after missing last year due to injury.

I rewatched the game film 3 times now. Allen was getting outmanned especially in pass pro many times. Mcvay is being nice trying to build the kids confidence. Go rewatch the film folks.

More than a few of Goff's passes were rushed or affected by the pass rush coming right through Allen. I'm talking one move and run right by him.

I'm pulling for the kid but turn on the tape and its not pretty.

Allen is very quick however getting out in space to block in the run game and dam near perfect assignment wise.

There is a ton of pressure placed on an NFL center. Having no real NFL regular season game experience going into the Carolina gm. I would expect this young inexperienced center to have some rocky moments going up against one of the better defenses in the NFC.

Kromer had a big hand in the drafting of Brian Allen. BA is smart condensed & able to move real well which he demands in his scheme. I would expect BA's road to smooth out after he gets warmed up & his barrings. :giggle:

Your worries may very well be warranted. But lets play the other side of the battle for a second. There are 5 first round picks and a second round pick on that front 7. There are over a dozen pro bowl honors among them. And they had 5 QB hits and only 1 sack which was off a corner blitz. We averaged over 5 YPC against them without a QB hitting a big play like some do to boost that stat. How do you think a veteran like Ron Rivera is treating that front 7 this week in practice for not taking advantage of 2 first time starters and what was supposed to be a major weakness for us? The guys up front weren't perfect but they were good and didn't cost us a game. All that with a lot of rust from as we know no preseason snaps. All that considered I think those two deserve a game ball when you add in no presnap penalties!

And he's short/powerful (6'2)enough to win at leverage (low man wins football) the lineman who goes low on (defensive linemen) is the one who has the leverage.

I do think Blythe was the worst of the 3 interior OL tbh. His prob is that when he loses on a run play he gets blown up and we have 300lbs in our backfield. That's really what the line needs to start limiting is those plays where they get that instant penetration.

IMO we will start seeing Edwards at that RG position as soon as the team feels like he has a good handle. Because Blythe is gone come the offseason, and Edwards on the inside will probably give you fewer plays where it's a jailbreak.
Maybe a while for Edwards.
He gave up a lot to rookies and backups in the preseason.
Allen for beaten a couple of times. Havenstein got beaten badly once.
The left side was very good pass blocking.

I was surprised and I'll bet Kromer is surprised to learn he is infallible.

Nobody is saying he's infallible. It's simply that Kromer made an informed call based on seeing them during the entire 2018 season taking snaps vs our DL in practice. It's not a stretch to think they're going to be ok when they get their shot.

If we want to see the Rams do what the Pats do in winning year to year, it is going to require young players stepping up every season. Rams are basically reloading the OL. Two positions replaced this season at C and LG. One for sure but possibly two more going to be replaced next season (LT and RG). The plan has been to vet guys the previous season to ensure they're up to snuff irt making the call on them.

LT might still be drafted this offseason, particularly if one they like is there end of round 1. If they like Boom there then they're in much better shape, and it becomes a question of who fills those two roles. So hopefully at least one of our two rooks will show enough through the season to instill the faith they had in Boom & Allen.

I just don't understand the constant hand wringing with these two. They just had their first game vs a very challenging front and they played well enough for us to win. Boom looks better in pass sets than he does in run blocking. Allen looks better in run blocking than pass sets. They weren't perfect. But just like with a bunch of young players on our starting depth chart they afford us the ability to improve as we go forward.
