There is nothing but good to be said about Gurley's performance yesterday. He looks to be a force and a WELCOME addition to this team.

With the Rams up by 2 at the end of the game he had a chance to make it 8 with a TD and presumably 9 with the PAT but chose to go down in the field of play allowing the Rams to run the victory formation.

Presumably there was no way for the cards to score twice if he had scored but if by some weird twist of fate the PAT was missed a score and 2 point conversion could have tied it.

When is it ok to go ahead and score the TD or not score?

He was coached to just lay on it at that point. Once there is no notable benefit to scoring, it would just be selfish to force it in.

Gurley made the perfect play. Say for instance he didn't score and we turned the ball over on the next play. By laying down and allowing the team to go to victory formation was even sweeter. Why because it meant 'GAME OVER SNITCHES":yess:(y):lifting::shooting:

Yeah, I am not convinced he could have scored on that play. He did the right thing.

About the only ones wishing Gurley would have run it in for the TD are the fantasy owners who had him going. It's been awhile since I've seen that selfless of an act in the NFL, which is such a stats/performance driven league. Well done Mr. Gurley.

As Rhody said - there was a very slight chance of a turnover if he tried to score. Or as was said originally, something else could go wrong. Going down guaranteed victory, which is what matters. Trying to score would have won the game the vast majority of time, but as Rams fans we know how things can go wrong. It was a veteran, unselfish play.

Also consider the new rule, the Cards could block the extra point and return it for 2 points, and then get the ball back with the score just 30-24..!

In the scenario from yesterday, Gurley did exactly what should of been done. Having Foles take a knee is always the best option.

Running the clock guarantees a win. Going for the TD does not. Smart choice. Extremely veteran move.

I was very impressed w/ his decision. Both my wife and youngest were yelling for him to score but I realized by going down. He sealed the game. That much talent and the kid listens to the coach.......:yess::yess::yess::party:

C'mon folks. It was his FIRST "real" game in the NFL! Can you imagine how nervous he was and how surreal all the action was for him? It doesn't matter what he did yesterday on one play. The college kid Gurley probably would have run for a touchdown. The NFL rookie... just wants to win. But he is fast, tough, evasive, he can catch, he can block... this kid is LOADED with potential. Hopefully our line starts to get more consistent. I was having flashbacks of Dickerson yesterday!!!

He is a smart, smart kid and a good, good, no, he's a WONDERFUL player. And he's ours, ALL OURS!

Heads up move by the rook, who, I feel confident, will have many more opportunities to score in what I hope and pray will be a long, productive NFL career with THE RAMS!

It was pretty much their only hope left.

I was impressed that he had the discipline to slide down and just win the game for the team rather than try to pad his stats.

Plus, when the camera focused on him before a couple of plays, you could see this never give up look in his eyes. There's more to that kid than just someone who can take the hand-off and run with the ball. There was a fiery yet calm determination. I could go on, but just suffice it to say that I'm really looking forward to seeing more of that.

Yeah, but, if he goes in and scores ... and Zeurlein misses the extra point ... then what? Now you give them the ball, time, and the opportunity to tie the game.
Would have liked to see him ice it, but it's much sweeter to be in the position to basically say, "I'm showing you mercy now instead of sticking it up your ass."

The smart play is to do what Gurley did.
If he scores a TD and we missed the not so give me extra point, it is an 8 point game. One score with a two point conversion and it is OT. No question Gurley made the right play. Lay down, game over.

He made the right play... and it was impressive to see he understood the situation.

Taking the knee was the wise choice. Scoring and hitting the xp sure would have put us up by 9. But the xp now can be scored for the defense. AZ blocks it and scores one all of a sudden we're up 7 and kicking off. Solid move by TG30 and selfless.
