Saturday Scrimmage (Aug-29) SoFi Stadium - Thread

I would bet that most of those ER Leonard Floyd pressure made their way to Goff ..................by way by RT Rob Havenstein.

Posted many times as of late it's great that Hav has come in slimmed down but his pass protection skills were need of some serious work. I have not seen anything yet that tells me I am going down a wrong path on this thought.

It also could be why David Edwards was moved out of his starting OG positions from 2019 to prep for future RT duty.

When Havenstein was a “great” pass blocker he was just getting by a lot of the time.
Just pushing rushers wide.
That’s fine.
But he has lost something and frankly is probably too big.
Smaller rushers that can get low give him fits.
I hope to be pleasantly surprised out of the gate vs Dallas but I am not holding my breath.
Whitworth/Noteboom/Blythe/Corbett/Havenstein does not fill me with confidence.
In the case of Whit, Hav and Blythe one is hoping to return a previous level of play.
With Boom and Corbett there is potential to grow.
I hope I am wrong but I see growing pains incoming.

While the Rams No.1 offense has produced TDs on first two drives (Woods, Higbee receptions)... I’d argue both possessions would’ve been derailed by Leonard Floyd sacks from the left edge had the QB been live.

Floyd causing Goff problems came from when Floyd was coming off his defenses left edge. RT Havenstein is the OL'er who pass blocks those ER's penetrating form from that left DL side area.

Sure would help if we had some video clips of ER Floyd performance last night. @ this time this is some good news for Snead on his UFA signing of OLB'er Floyd.

This is the problem with this offseason. We can't really know without seeing how Hav was beat. We're at the mercy of reporting so it could be that Hav is struggling again or it could be that Floyd is really putting it together right now.

It's gonna be a long fucking week waiting for that Dallas game. But hey at least there's a game so thankful for that.

The counter to Leonard Floyd’s big day from the left edge is right tackle Rob Havenstein’s questionable performance. Was it just another bad day for the big offensive right tackle? Or was something else at work here? I understand that the 30-day crash course will put offensive lines at a disadvantage heading into the NFL season. If the Rams need to help, they need to go 12-package, pronto.

Thanks for the share but LOL somebody on a fan site who wasn't watching the scrimmage calling winners and losers. We can make assumptions over random tweets but backing that article up is a tough proposition.

Yeah Hav is basically a throwback RT. His strength is his run blocking. He just survives in pass pro with his size.

The run game really looms large here IMO. IF the run game is strong things are going to look at lot better. If not teams will ignore it and bum rush our QB with rolled up coverages again.

Yea didn't want to overreact during the scrimmage but this has to be concerning. Floyd who isn't a dominant pass rusher at all beating Havenstein multiple times already. With the huge question mark we have at both guard spots and center, Hav cant afford to have another bad season. But he has always gotten beat by speed rushers, even when he was playing at his best. I've never thought of him as more than an average RT at best. And our line is full of average to below average players unfortunately.

At this point I hope McVay understands we will have a bottom 1/3 of the league rated OL, and he needs to adjust the scheme in order for us to have a shot this season. Just like he did late last year. More 2 TE sets, more quick passes, more roll outs. The days of 5 and 7 drops with Goff are long gone until this franchise wants to legitimately invest in OL talent. But hopefully our run blocking is slightly better than last year, and that will at least make teams respect the play action again. Will McVay be patient enough to stick with the run and use play action etc?
Man the passing game gets easier with a good run game.

McVay definitely knows what he's doing. That second game vs SF last season was an absolute clinic in how to counter a poor OL with schemed QB movement.

Problem is teams will adjust to that if he has to keep going back to the well with it again this season.

That really was an impressive game considering how the Rams were undermanned.
You can scheme a lot of stuff to protect the line.
With QB movement or play design.
What the QB can’t do is hold the ball.
He has to know where he is going pre snap or be able to very quickly find the alternate receiver.
Something Goff is hopefully improving with.

I stand corrected. Thought that jersey was 70, it was 79. Hav needs to do a better job.
