Big fan of Saff's physical approach and game. This would work beautifully if they like Jackson at LT. Slide Edwards to RG and Corbs to center and mash that ground game.

Saffold soon to be 34 in June.

He is still very productive. PFF grade was 73.7...........

He probably cost too much.

Edit: The wrong year on PFF grade it is 68.8 this past year. Will rethink cost.

33 vs 26?
Yeah... I'm not a big Corbett fan. I would let him walk as long as the Rams believe they have someone who is ready (Anchrum, Shelton, etc). Corbett is probably going to get 5-6 million, at least, and would want a long-term deal. I would offer that money to Saffold for 2 years.

As always, it's all about the money. Saffold back at LG for 2022 may help fix a temporary problem, but with Edwards entering free agency next year and Saffold's age, the Rams still need to draft one or more IOLmen imo.

I was a huge Saffold fan. Love his versatility on the line, too. If he still has it (I have not followed him since he left the Rams), I would not hesitate to give him a 2 year deal. I never wanted him gone in the first place. You can never have enough awesome offensive lineman. We are a bit lacking on the interior too. O-line is one area you should spend.

Giving this it's own thread because there's already been much talk about the possibility and how he should come back to the Rams to solidify a guard spot. Personally love the idea as I'm sure most would but it's gotta be at a cap friendly deal so we'll see if Snead and McVay think it should happen.

Titans are releasing Rodger Saffold. Could a Rams reunion be in order?

LA could have holes on the offensive line. Is Saffold a solution?

The Los Angeles Rams could be losing as many as four key contributors along the offensive line in the next couple of weeks. Veteran left tackle Andrew Whitworth is contemplating retirement, and the individual that has been groomed as his replacement - Joseph Noteboom - is an unrestricted free agent. Also expected to hit the open market are center Brian Allen and guard Austin Corbett, who are both young and seemingly ascending players.

Inevitably, there will be change in the trenches for Los Angeles this offseason, but could they look to a familiar face for reinforcements?

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Tennessee Titans have informed Rodger Saffold they are planning to release him. Saffold has a $1M roster bonus due to him next week, and he’s in the final year of his contract with the team.

One important aspect of signing Saffold as opposed to a free agent on an expiring contract is that he would not count against the Rams in terms of the compensatory selection formula. LA has signed veterans who were released from their previous teams in the past, such as Ndamukong Suh and Leonard Floyd, in order to maximize the return they receive from the league via compensatory draft picks.

Saffold was drafted by the St. Louis Rams and general manager Billy Devaney in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft. This was the year the Rams also drafted quarterback Sam Bradford with the number one overall selection.

The interior offensive lineman became an important member of the 2018 team that made the Super Bowl, but he left as an unrestricted free agent that offseason. LA’s offensive line took a sharp downturn shortly after his departure, and the 2019 unit was easily the worst so far under head coach Sean McVay. The Rams also lost center John Sullivan that offseason.

Could the Rams have learned their lesson the last time they were facing a great deal of change along the offensive line, and could they see Saffold as a viable or cheaper replacement option for Corbett?

Rams fans will remember how significant of a role Saffold played in Todd Gurley’s breakout 2017 campaign where he was named the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year. Saffold is athletic for a guard, having been drafted to play left tackle, and he is adept at getting downfield on runs and in the screen game.

We will know more about the Rams’ plan for the offensive line when free agency begins next week, and time will tell if they truly have interest in reuniting with Saffold.

Lots of mileage on him. I worry about older OLs. Whit is a once in a lifetime phenomenon.
Age + declining PFF….if inexpensive maybe. Just wonder if better options LT. 17 game season and several playoff game is a lot to rely upon an older OL. Difficult decisions ahead on the OL.

Tennessee Titans: Rodger Saffold opens up about injury that’s plagued him all season

By

Tennessee Titans offensive lineman Rodger Saffold only played 40 snaps (out of a possible 71) in his team’s win against the Jacksonville Jaguars this past Sunday.
Saffold exited the game twice due to injury. He was replaced by Aaron Brewer.
On Tuesday, Saffold opened up about his injury during an interview on 3HL on 104.5 The Zone in Nashville.

“So basically, it’s a nerve thing,” said Saffold. “It’s numbness, tingling, and all that thing. Sometimes I can shake it out.”
“The funny thing is I waited like four plays until I went down because it was still giving me fits. The crazy thing about it is it can be from anything, so it’s kind of like how can we manage it? Who knows, I might have to see a specialist at the end of the year.”
HERE’S @RODGER_SAFFOLD DISCUSSING THE DETAILS OF HIS INJURY JUST NOW ON @3HL1045. #TITANS PIC.TWITTER.COM/NFQQVUKXVQ
— 104-5 THE ZONE (@1045THEZONE) DECEMBER 14, 2021
Saffold is expecting to deal with this injury the rest of the year, but he’s confident he’ll be able to grind through it.
“I’ve got to grind through it. My team isn’t going to be playing in the Super Bowl while I’m sitting over there like, go guys! Nah, I gotta play.”
Saffold’s desire to tough it out doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone in the Titans organization.
“Everybody in the organization would agree he’s (Saffold) going to do everything in his power to be out there and play through all the stuff going on,” said offensive line coach Keith Carter this week.
The Titans have dealt with a ridiculous amount of injuries this season, but the team is still leading the AFC South by two games while being tied for the best record in the AFC.
You can’t ask for much more considering what Tennessee has dealt with in 2021.

I don't like the sound of nerve damage/problems. That plus his age might mean he's out as an option.

Rodger Saffold is now past 33 yrs old & has well over a decade of heavy-duty mileage on him. His listed AAV salary is approx. $11 million. This chart below gives us a great look at the trending downward snaps he has been getting with the offense. Another thing that needs to be brought up is, Saffold did struggle in pass protection and with injury in 2021.

Nerve damage, those pec / shoulder surgeries.... I dunno. Mebbe. Loved him as a Ram though, was one of the few good, consistent players we had in the Loo.
