It has been the case for a while now, but if Donald is drawing that much attention, what the heck are the other defenders doing?

I know Jackson is beyond elusive but come on. Young looks good. But we need a bookend opposite him.

It feels like other than with our Super Bowl run with Von Miller, the Rams have never really had a big-time rushing threat alongside prime Donald, which is a real shame, not only because Donald deserves that for at least a season or two instead of always carrying the load himself, but it would also be amazing to watch as a fan, and also really help the Rams' chances at victory. Quinn was an outstanding pass rusher for a time, but I feel he had exited his prime by the time Donald entered his. Floyd was a good DE - very good at times - but in terms of his pass rush ability he was nothing special.

As far as the possible fumble, incomplete pass, sack, the Rams got one of the best outcomes in that it was ruled a sack. 3rd and 17, two defensive stops and you win the game. Can't blame the refs because they gave up a TD on 3rd and 17. Rams didn't take advantage of their opportunities to win the game. They had the Ravens where they wanted them and couldn't close the deal.

You are assuming this guy is an actual NFL caliber QB? No, he's a running back that can throw the ball pretty well.
He is a runner of great rarity and threat who has a cannon of an arm. But I do agree his ability as a passer limits him.

In his favor not having that TE has hurt his efficiency. But he generally has had good protections and when you are a rush threat that tends to slow the rush as they are trying to shape the pocket and contain.

He is a pain in the ass to stop on the ground but the first defense that does that will knock them from the playoffs.

I feel like people aren't actually watching Lamar's games this season.
He's got a 98 rating and hitting almost 67% of his passes with the same YPA as Dak.

He's got excellent ability as a passer and is a legit MVP candidate because of his overall play this year.

I don't see excellent passer. Never have, even in his early window when his running ability was at its peak.

I think he is a guy you can maybe win it all with given a team around him, which he has. But good chance they get bounced because the moment he is contained they will lose.

Like I said, I don’t think people have been watching him. He’s good in the pocket now.

I'm not that torn up about the L

Rams went toe to toe with an NFL heavyweight and put up 31 points against a top 3 defense and the top team in the AFC.

Had this penciled in as a loss anyway. The experts put the Rams win total for the season at 6.5. Team is young and resilient and learning every game how to get better.

Had a great day with my nephew who texted me 30 minutes b4 kickoff saying he was driving thru RI and lets go have lunch, so we did. That took the sting out of the loss since I wont see him over the holidays

So you think I didn't watch him yesterday. As well as anyone else who doesn't buy stock in him. Guess we disagree again then.

None of us thought our Rams would play the Ravens in a game to be determined in overtime. It is a tuff loss, but this team is ahead of where we thought they would be at this point in the season. I have been really impressed with the run defense and the blocking up front. Also are offensive skill players are playing lights out.
Yeah.
Our run D has exceeded my expectations.

I wasn’t expecting much coming into this season.
I thought we were going to get gashed every week.

Amen --- i because he's so mobile it clouds things
but he's ranged from good to very good to elite from
the pocket for last several years. there are times
when he shows pinpoint accuracy.

Not 100% of the time but be can be money for
weeks at a time

Maybe I need to stop following the GDT thread during the game. Some of you were quitting on the team in the first quarter. Negativity is such a downer.

Yeah, I just take a big gummy and chill tf out watching.

I just couldn’t do the whole getting so amped up that I was up all night thing anymore…

Jackson is absolutely a good QB
Never said he wasn't. Even conceded I think he can win a title which I don't say about many QBs.

But the truth is he is a rare run threat and that's what makes him. His arm is a cannon and he can stretch the field and make amazing throws. Misses too many though for my taste (physically and mentally) and I think teams know that is his weakness and can gameplan him accordingly when the chips are down.

Wasn't directed at you! I quote you, saw somebody else say he was.t and was just putting out my thoughts on him. He's got an OC finally that let's him be a QB.

Right on and we'll see how he does this year in the playoffs. I look at him like I do Allen. Both are immensely talented no doubt about it. But way I see it is if either were as good as passers as they are running with the ball they'd both have titles under their belt because both have had very good teams around them.

Allen's team around him this year probably isn't good enough. But Lamar's team is. I will say I'd rather see the Ravens win it all than some other AFC teams, as well. So it'll be an interesting playoffs on that side of the fence.

I mean besides when he plays the Rams.

But, yeah… fine.

The funny part is that yesterday’s game is the second best rushing game he’s had this season. He’s averaging his worst YPG in his career… and the offense is tearing ass.

This stuff is subjective so disagreements on QBs are to be expected.

My point is the guy is head and shoulders above all other running QBs over his first handful of seasons. If his passing was up to snuff he'd be a generational QB. But he's not a generational QB.

Truth is that no matter how irritating it is to see a QB scramble on your defense it is more effective to make throws. So even though modern NFL QBs are expected to have some mobility, when it comes to greatness at the position it will always pivot on the passing ability. Because a ball travels faster than anyone can run.

A good contrast would be to compare how Penix plays vs how Jackson plays. Penix can run he has 4.5 speed and at Indiana he was a dual threat QB until he started getting hurt. Now he will be very selective in his runs. He will extend plays and if no one is open he will simply throw it away. I've seen him break out of the pocket and stop short of the LOS reset and throw the ball deep with accuracy and touch. Even though he could have run for perhaps 10-15 yds. This is what I believe Merlin is talking about. Penix leaves the pocket with the intent not to run but extend the play to allow a receiver to come open.

Jackson always has one eye on any opportunity to run and he will take it. When Jackson breaks the pocket more often than not he becomes a RB. Yes there are times when a DB will prematurely drop coverage when he sees Jackson on the move and then Lamar will make the throw to where the coverage was dropped. There is a subtle but important difference. One of these days Lamar is going to get really hurt on one of his runs. He will not simply go down but he enjoys juking the tackler. That will eventually get him hurt. Jackson is a rare talent and a fine QB but I don't see him playing into his mid to late 30's if he continues that style of play.
