With Robinson's struggles at left tackle, would I be off base thinking maybe moving him to left guard and Reynolds to left tackle might be a better move?
I was thinking about this. GRob just isn't cutting it at LT. I'd wager he's among the worst in the NFL. I'm just not sure if Reynolds is going to do much better at LT. If we had a halfway decent replacement for LT, I'd be all for it.

Pat-cheatriots lost their steady LT-Solder for the season now, if they can overcome that with just their plug in play then we should be OK with Reynolds at RG for a few weeks or the rest of the season.
The Pats can get away with those kind of moves because they're incredibly well coached and have a HOFer at QB ( ).

An observation. Saffold had the first 19 plays. Reynolds the next 52.

Our offense:

First 19 snaps
Rushing: 8 for 24 yards (3.0 per rush)
Passing: 2-10-2 27 yards (2.7 per attempt), 1 sack

Last 52 snaps
Rushing: 28 for 167 yards (6.0 per rush)
Passing: 9-20-2 114 yards (5.7 per attempt), 2 sacks
I definitely noticed an improvement at RG when Saffold left. He just hasn't been the same as he was a couple years ago when he was first moved to G.

I'm actually not too worried about Reynolds coming in to play RG. I'm still more concerned about LT. I'm praying there's a light bulb that goes off this bye week.

I'm beginning to wonder if GRob will ever be that guy they hoped he would be. Forget HOF cornerstone left tackle. At this point, I would take just serviceable. Right now he's not even that.

I don't think Saffold is being a "wuss". Just because he's fragile doesn't mean his injuries aren't very serious. A lot of guys would just quit with the injury he had last year, but he played through that despite him not having full use of his shoulder and it popping out every single game, and I'm sure it was incredibly painful. It hurts to dislocate your shoulder, and he played through it, multiple times, as a damn OL where you put hundreds of pounds of force on that arm. It required surgery and months of surgery, that was no joke of an injury. This latest injury appears to be just as serious. Saffold is a tough dude, he's just injury prone.

whats the fastest anyone has ever come back from the old - out indefinitely? I know it likely means out for the year - and maybe even longer - but whats the shortest anyone has ever seen?

They’re using the bye week to help figure out what to do.
Hmmmm, I think I gotta idea..........

If we play Wichmann or Rhaney or Donnal, we can see our young drafted talent in action with the first team.
that's why you draft 5 linemen.....

Wichmann looked good in limited preseason time.

I'd like to see them go straight to Wichmann myself............As I said, I'm hoping its Wichmann time.
Persistence....I like that...Agreed..

On Saffold... @Stel I don't think you can say the line played better with Saffol out...Just because he went out...more likely, they just started to get their crap together....Gurley was due to bust one run...shoulda had others....But I expected his injury...just the way it happened in preseason....so...I'm all for getting Wichmann ready...Leave Reynolds in his more valuable role, backup...Have him ready to replace anyone, at any moment....It's his:

time...

hope he's ready...

Breaking down Saffold's contract
3/18/2014

Nick Wagoner, ESPN Staff Writer

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- The drama that unfolded last week surrounding offensive lineman Rodger Saffold's return to the St. Louis Rams after a failed physical with the Oakland Raiderscertainly cost Saffold money on the open market.

Instead of the five-year, $42.5 million contract that included more than $21 million in guaranteed money, the reality of Saffold's deal with the Rams comes in well below that. But Saffold does have plenty of opportunity to land in the ballpark of the guaranteed dollar figure Oakland would have given him by staying healthy and productive and remaining on the Rams roster over the course of the first three years of his contract with St. Louis.

On the surface, Saffold's deal with the Rams checks in at five years for $31.347 million with a true full guarantee of $11 million. That $11 million includes a fully guaranteed 2014 base salary of $3 million, a $5 million signing bonus and a $3 million 2015 roster bonus.

There are, however, relatively easy ways for Saffold to earn an additional $8 million-plus. Saffold's $4 million base salary in 2015 and $4.5 million base salary in 2016 become fully guaranteed if he is still on the roster on the third day of the league year in each of those seasons or based on injury guarantees. If Saffold is healthy, the Rams would have the ability to release him before the third day of the league year in 2015 and/or 2016 and not have to realize those guarantees.

Beyond that, Saffold's contract has its share of built-in escalators in the final four years of the deal. If Saffold doesn't void the final two years and hits all of the incentives and escalators, the deal could climb beyond the $31.347 million total from above.

2014

Base salary: $3 million (fully guaranteed)

Signing bonus: $5 million (fully guaranteed, spread out in $1 million increments over life of contract)

Roster bonus: $0

Cash value: $8 million

Cap value: $4 million

2015

Base salary: $4 million (Guaranteed for injury only but becomes guaranteed on third day of league year)

Signing bonus: $0 ($1 million count against cap)

Roster bonus: $3 million (Fully guaranteed, to be paid on third day of league year)

Cash value: $7 million

Cap value: $8 million

2016

Base salary: $4.5 million (Guaranteed for injury only, becomes guaranteed on third day of league year)

Signing bonus: $0 ($1 million count against cap)

Roster bonus: Up to $375,000 (Bonus of $23,438 per game active)

Cash value: $4.875 million

Cap value: $5.875 million

2017

Base salary: $4,722,233

Signing bonus: $0 ($1 million count against cap)

Roster bonus: Up to $375,000 (Bonus of $23,438 per game active)

Cash value: $5,097,233

Cap value: $6,097,233

Notes: Saffold can void this season if he reaches certain incentives. Those incentives are unknown at this time.

2018

Base salary: $5 million

Signing bonus: $0 ($1 million count against cap)

Roster bonus: Up to $1.375 million (Bonus of $23,438 per game active plus $1 million if still on roster third day of league year)

Cash value:$6.375 million

Cap value: $7.375 million

Notes: Saffold can void this season if he reaches certain incentives. Those incentives are unknown at this time.

He's a team guy, but he's fragile and not very good when he's healthy IMO. Cut and move on at the end of the year. I hope Wichmann or Donnal grab the job by the throat and run with it, but we'll probably see Reynolds for a while.

Par for the course with Saffold.

Should have drafted his replacement awhile ago. Great talent. Can't stay on the field to save his life.

We drafted a whole bunch of OLs this past off-season. This should be it for Saffold. Like Amendola, I have a feeling their patience has run out.

Saffold gets hurt a lot but usually comes back the next week, this time he got hurt and will be out for a long time. He was playing very badly before this happened. I liked the re-signing of him, but it hasnt worked out well.I think its time to move off from him in the offseason. They need to continue the O-line rebuild this offseason.

You could have recycled this article and I wouldn't have even known, he's been injured so much. Honestly, this might be a good thing for us. Saffold hasn't been playing well and it might allow us to see what we have elsewhere. If we play Reynolds, he's only 28, so if he plays well, he can be a building block. If we play Wichmann or Rhaney or Donnal, we can see our young drafted talent in action with the first team. We might shuffle it around a little, move, say, Havenstein to RG and have a guy like Darrell Williams play RT. We have some options when it comes to how we want to replace Saffold and it might help give us an idea of what we truly have.

They're gonna go with Reynolds for a while, at least until GRob settles down. Line needs continuity more than anything else IMO. The talent is there, which is a deviation from prior years. They just gotta get everyone settled.

This line has had some good games even against tough defenses. Keep rolling with it is the answer. I'd never shuffle these guys now, and the last guy I'd shuffle is HStein who is gonna be a tank at RT.

I think Havenstein would make a nice guard despite his height, but it was just a thought.

Hate to break it to you, but Trapper and Hawkeye were damn good doctors. A bit unconventional, but very, very good.

I know I was going more for the look..Let's try this, the Head Physician at Rams Park
