Aubrey Pleasant was fired in Detroit, mid-season, and their D turned around after that. I don't know that he was a problem, but maybe he wasn't the solution, either. Sometimes contracts end and it's clear you don't want to go another round. Hopefully it's the right choice for the team.
McVay ain't going anywhere... Kingsbury was out and needed a gig. This role is kinda perfect, imo.. someone who's been and HC and can help with that.. someone with some different ideas to bring to the room.. and someone McVay is comfortable with. All important stuff.
Interesting how you skipped the whole part I wrote after that. Would you agree that our db room was a huge question mark going into the season? If the answer is yes, then do you think its fair that Pleasant was possibly fired for not turning a shit sandwich into gold? How should Pleasant be held accountable for decisions he doesnt make? Now if he did like what he was given, then like I said, thats on him.
His job was the pass defense. The pass defense was a shit sandwich and got us eliminated in the playoffs, despite having the 4th best pressure front in the league at 41.6%.
There is no mystery. It's accountability. And it's an important precedent for the returning players on defense to see that there was accountability with the coaching staff, and a coach McVay loves. Not just accountability with the players.
