Guys,

Regardless of how you may feel about Peters, I really think resigning him just got much more complicated. The Dolphins just gave Xavien Howard, a cornerback with one solid, proven year under his belt, the largest CB contract in history. On the open market, that just made Peter's value increase.

I honestly was hoping for the Rams to sign Peters long-term given the importance of the position and the difficulty in finding solid players at the position. That said, I think it just got much, much tougher.

I dunno... I always thought the Peters question was pretty simple.

He’ll be a Ram for one more year, and then he’ll walk. And we’ll get a 3rd round pick as compensation.

I hope and expect Peters will be solid in 2019. If so, he will get obscene $ as a FA in 2020.

IMHO, Peters will demand (and likely receive) ‘elite’ money. Only problem is, he’s just not reliable enough, either as a player or as a teammate.

Yeah, I've been figuring that Peters would command more than he is really worth to the Rams. I'm guessing they will try to sign him, but when that is falling through, resign Talib for a couple of years, figure Long as a starter, and draft somebody else.

And be happy with the third round comp pick for him.

Peters doesn't have leverage at the moment because his overall performance last year was at the bottom of the league.

So he has to play balls to the wall this year. If he plays lights out that will be a good problem to have. This is why we are drafting young guys kike Long.

Howard is very good. Peters, not so good. Maybe Peters will excel if Wade keeps using more zone. I hope so. I still don't understand why it took so long to realize that he is not a man press corner

I am still surprised that Marcus Peters 5th year was picked up by the Cap Strapped Rams. IMO Peters is not worth the $9.1 million this season. I see the decision on having Peters remain a Ram in 2019 as for buying time for Wade to have a replacement for Peters by midseason. His replacement is rookie David Long. My hope is that the Rams can entice veteran corner Talib to resign & retire as a Ram. I was expecting the Rams to draft more than one corner too.

Rams went to a lot of effort to help out Peters in this offseason. The signing all-pro veteran deep safety Eric Weddle looks to help Wade with his Peters problem. Snead then made the Rams top 2019 draft election another safety Taylor Rapp to help out on Peters lack of effort on tackling & beef up the back end even more. The safety trio of JJ III, Rap & Weddle should help with this bad Peters situation.....of course, that my opinion.

I rarely post these days, but when I do I try to make it count (Thanks X, PrimeTime, 504 and Selassie, Mojo and DaveFan54 and so any others, Memento, I could name endlessly). For simple words: Janoris Jenkins Trumaine Johnson or 4 short letters JJTJ.

Btw @Selassie I check out Tech N9ne's new album N9na especially Rata . I thought of you, Brah!

In my crystal ball I see the Rams’ starting corners as:

2019: Talib and Peters
2020: Talib and Long
2021: Long and 2020 premium pick (who’s had a year to develop).

Assumptions:
—They let Peters walk as a FA
—They re-sign Talib and get one more good year from him
—They use a premium 2020 pick to draft Talib’s replacement in 2021.

2022 is cloudy... however

At least they are in Miami. Me likey Miami (y)

Likewise, my first time on Ocean and Washington Blvd getting out of the taxi I had many asking me where to get weed or coke, from people I thought I should be asking. I was asked by drive by drivers and on the street within minutes trying to walk to my Air BnB. True story, 2017. I was just there to set up a PO BOX via fake typed up lease on Ocean Blvd got it from the USPS still drunk in line to take my Amazon Prime goods back to Tamarindo, CR. Time and money ran out and back in AZ again. Life experiences! True story. I also visited the Deuce many times in my short stay, best bar and experience bar wise

Precisely. Peters was always a rental, Rams just aren't going to admit that.

Yea unfortunately chalk me up as another “Peters is gone” guy. My wish would be to trade for Ramsey, even if it costs our first. Now that’s a guy you pay top money for!

I think McVay & The Rams have helped mature Marcus Peters !! He has let from his last & understands what is involved in being a solid NFL player.

What it cost vs his play another story. The Rams just drafted David Long & have some young CB’s in the picture.
Some Ram Fans May have said it best ?
Trade Troy Hill ?? My fear would be he goes to SF if released & he has value to the depth.
It’s just I also really like the Ok St. Bro’s.

Yup.

They will have time to identify a replacement.

I rarely post these days

@BatteringRambo I'm curious why you don't?

I'm with the Peters is gone after this year. Rams can afford him and he is not worth what he will get as a free agent.

Talib and draft more CBs. Could find a cheap rental for depth if they have too.

Sigh.

I feel like I keep repeating the same thing over and over about Peters - he was ELITE from the bye week to the Super Bowl.

Peters is in the same boat as Cooks for me personally. Cooks is, IMO, our 3rd best WR and 4th best offensive weapon - but he's currently our highest paid offensive weapon. I think ultimately they were okay overpaying him because Woods and Kupp are bargains.

Similarly, I think Peters will get inked before the season starts - it will be around $15-$16 million per year, front loaded - and people will freak out a little bit, but the reality is, Long and NRC are bargains, so paying Peters won't kill us.

Gotta disagree on this one, Merlin.

At the time I think that the Rams thought (hoped) that the Peters acquisition was of the same caliber as Cooks, Woods, Whitworth, and Talib. Top drawer talent for a bargain basement price and could be for another 5 years beyond his current first contract.

I also think that they were disappointed but they protected themselves by assuming an easy out first contract, just in case. Very smart, huh?

Now Peters finds himself in a one year prove it situation. We can safely assume that we will get 100% of Peters’ best effort this year. Then let the chips fall where they may.

I think none of us know exactly how much his play was affected by his injured ankle. First chance he had to rest it was the off week, and then he played better after that. In addition, he had to be the man after Talib was out, and it's not clear if that affected him (especially with a sore ankle).

I suspect he will have a fine season in 2019, but I'm skeptical about the Rams resigning him. Goff is owed a huge payraise, among other things, and the Rams need to be selective on who else they extend for the next few seasons. I suspect there are several among the free agents to be they will negotiate with, and the best values will be the ones they make firm offers to. But the Goff payraise is the 800 pound gorilla in the room
