enver-based radio host Benjamin Allbright is reporting the Los Angeles Rams could be in play along with the New York Jets and Denver Broncos for Houston Texans QB Brian Hoyer who is expected to be traded or cut:
It's an interesting turn in the 2016 free agent QB market which has slowed up since the Cleveland Browns announced they were signing Robert Griffin III last week.
Hoyer is a seven-year NFL veteran having been picked up by the New England Patriots as a UDFA following the 2009 NFL Draft. After two-plus years backing up Tom Brady, a mid-season run with the Pittsburgh Steelers and a season in Arizona, Hoyer headed to Cleveland and latched on to the starting job in 2014 with the Browns. That led him to the Texans last season where he ultimately started nine games leading Houston to a 9-7 season and their first postseason action since 2012. That's where the fairytale ended though as the Texans were drubbed 30-0 by the Kansas City Chiefs as Hoyer threw four interceptions.
The Rams traded their 2016 NFL Draft seventh-round selection to the Texans for a Case Keenum a year ago; Keenum is now the presumptive starter for the Rams following numerous public comments by Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher and General Manager Les Snead.
For his part, Allbright has consistently pegged the Rams front office moves indicating he has at least one reliable source from within the organization.
