he's never picked a player in the first round. Sorry apparently I'm not explaining this well enough. Trading a player is using a pick sure but it's not picking a player. I thought this was common sense I'm sorry.
McVay hasnt drafted a player in the first round, so there's no history to go off of in thinking what they will/wont do if they choose a player at 19
Better?

Oh I know what you and I are saying. I don't seem to be saying it clearly enough though.

With Snead's history of finding WRs later in the draft I don't see the need for using a first round pick on a WR. CB or LT are two more crucial needs. With Robinson signed along with Kupp and Nacua they have their starters. Any WR will be groomed for next year. The Rams taking a WR in the third round and fifth round both wouldn't surprise me however since I think they will need two. They could lose both Robinson and Kupp next year. The last two years of Kupp's contract are essentially void years with no guaranteed salary. The fact they didn't extend Robinson for 2 years IMO is significant.

I think Snead and McVay have targeted 2 WRs in this draft. IMO this will be a different offensive roster in 2025. It's also why I think they draft a QB1 this year as well. This will give all three rookies time to develop chemistry and timing this year as they will be behind starters for a year.

After his blistering 40 time, Ladd McConkey is definitely in play at 19

I prefer Pearsall from Florida... had he been on Georgia he would be a top 20 pick. Hoping he is there as an option at 52.
I dont disagree with other options, I was just going along the theme of the thread regarding a WR drafted at #19
Such a long way to go before the draft, free agency will change some teams outlook.

Here is Cooper Kupp 2.0

4.4 speed, 40 inch vert, great hands, great route runner

So a little faster, better athlete, Not as big, but his route running and open field elusivness looks so similar to Kupp.

This is going to be an interesting draft. There are so many receivers. It will be interesting to see who the Rams pinpoint. I think Stafford would like Pearsall. Some of those catches are crazy with the hand strength.

If Rams pick Xavier, it'll be because they see the potential as stated here for him to keep improving. Guy is crazy raw as a route runner. Is it something to be improved with his work ethic or is he lazy about it. His size and hips will affect it and he'll probably never have the crispest cuts. But he's got everything else.
I'll say this, he couldn't go to a much better team to learn the intricacies of route running. With a mentor who is an elite route running, it doesn't get much better.

Yeah, great points. So if you have some pretty good faith that that won't be a problem then it's just can you live with his body type/size probably being a little problematic making precise cuts and if that affects the offense you run. We run a ton of digs and the question is can we be good with guys who are slow out of the break or round the break due to lack of flexibility. But perhaps that can be made up by more technique work.

Just a consensus draft big board ranking but:
Harrison - 4
Nabers - 5
Odunze - 6
Thomas - 19
Mitchell - 29
Worthy - 32
Coleman - 33
McConkey - 37
Franklin - 39
Wilson - 47
Leggette - 53
Pearsal - 55

I’m not hot on the TX receivers or Coleman but would love it if Rams could add one of these.

No, because the word “reach” has a specific definition. It’s not just any whiffed pick.
It is subjective though. As it is referenced off your board as a team. So it still ends up being opinion i.e. who makes the best educated guess.

One thing is for sure though with the Rams and wideouts... They look for intelligence and work ethic. So any of these guys who are diva types are out.

Agree with that, Merlin.

But I find it difficult to believe that any team will have McConkey as their 19th- top rated player… no matter how good his 40 time was.

I agree with this. With the caveat that some of the players we really like will be guys that rub the Rams the wrong way. So there may not be as many highly regarded types at 19 as we are seeing.

We don't get the interview results, background investigation, medical stuff.
