Word up Rams brethren! I, like most of you, are obsessed with the Rams RB situation. So I've done a little research into potential veterans and roster cuts. While it's early and everything is speculative I imagine the Rams brain trust is doing this sort of analysis.

So here are three guys I'm thinking we should be looking at:

1. Le'veon Bell, FA - I heard in an interview with Jack Funk that Bell has been working out. I imagine he has tread on his tires and a chip on his shoulder. The only issue with him is we may not be able to fit him in under the salary cap, unless he does a monies deffered to 2022 type deal.

2. Jordan Howard, Philly

"Running back Jordan Howard had an explosive start to his NFL career. Drafted in the fifth round by the Chicago Bears in 2016, he was a rookie Pro Bowler and logged 1,000-yard rushing seasons in his first two years.
However, Howard fell below the 1,000-yard mark in 2018, was a role player with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019 and was a virtual non-factor with the Miami Dolphins last season before being cut. Howard rejoined the Eagles late in 2020 and is back this year to try to revitalize his career.
He has performed well in camp too.
"Honestly, he came back looking the best that I've ever seen him look," fellow back Boston Scott said, per Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia.
The problem is Howard faces a crowded backfield that also features Scott, starter Miles Sanders, rookie fifth-round pick Kenneth Gainwell and recent addition Kerryon Johnson. Sanders and Scott are established Eagles commodities, and Gainwell is a draftee. So Howard may be vying for the No. 4 role at best. And while his 2021 cap hit is only $990,000, none of the money is guaranteed.
If Johnson, a 2018 second-round pick of the Detroit Lions, becomes Philadelphia's preferred reclamation project, cutting Howard and saving nearly $1 million could be an easy decision."

3. Jalen Richard, Las Vegas

"Running back Jalen Richard has merely been a role player for the Las Vegas Raiders. However, fans can tell you that he's been an extremely valuable one over the years.
An undrafted free agent in 2016, Richard quickly established himself as one of the league's most reliable receiving backs. He logged 160 receptions in his first four years with the Raiders and racked up 2,550 yards from scrimmage during that span.
In 2018 and 2019, Richard provided quarterback ratings of 97.9 and 98.0 when targeted, respectively.
However, he was less of a factor in 2020, when he had career lows in receptions (19) and yards from scrimmage (261). Then, Las Vegas signed dual-threat back Kenyan Drake to a two-year, $11 million deal in free agency.
With Drake and Josh Jacobs leading the backfield, Richard was already likely battling for a roster spot. He's now also out indefinitely with a foot injury, according to The Athletic's Tashan Reed.
"He missed the first few practices of training camp after being placed on the COVID-19 list and will now miss more time. Vegas has [five] other active RBs on the roster," Reed tweeted.
While teams don't often cut players for injury alone, the Raiders could save $2.4 million by releasing Richard. There's a real chance the 27-year-old fan favorite will end up looking for work elsewhere."

What do you guys think? Any others that are worth looking at?

There is enough smoke around Le’veon Bell being a cultural risk, I’d probably steer clear of him. Shame too, because he’s a good player. I just wouldn’t chance it.

The others are interesting... and EXACTLY the comb over the Rams are doing.

Xavier Jones needs to look good in preseason or we will need to make a move.

Duke Johnson or gore make more sense. Duke for his youth and pass catching ability and gore for his short yardage and leadership abilities.

I would definitely take a chance on Bell but give him a very short leash and let him know that up front. He's definitely high risk high reward type player worth a shot IMO.

I'd rather just roll with rookie fresh legs than a meh vet.

Agreed and if the Rams do make a move, I don't believe it will be any players on this list. IMO, if they make a move, it's a RB they will trade for.

Agreed. The best RB available is K Hunt. The Browns likely won’t deal him. He’s signed and a great insurance policy for them. He’s carrying a 6 mil a year through 2022, dead cap of 2.8 mil. It sucks because he’d tear it up in this offense with the WR group & Stafford.

I hope they bring in 2&3. One more back to learn the offense in case they have an injury.

Yeah, I've posted a few times about Royce Freeman of the Broncos, good size/speed, can catch the football, is cheap and from California. IMO, that could be a match.

I'd still call Houston about David Johnson. If he can be had for a 4th or 5th rounder, I'd do it. Also wouldnt hurt to watch the Browns do with D'Ernest Johnson.

I watched him some last year and he's good, starter material IMO. They drafted Felton and have Hunt behind Chubb. Felton has been at WR some, so they likely have a roster spot for Johnson - but with Chubb and Hunt so young, what's the future there for Johnson? I'd imagine they would consider a 5th for him.

I’m looking at the crowded NE and HOU backfields. Someone of note will likely be cut from each of those teams. Rams won’t likely go for picking up any TB that will cost them much more than $1m but O do see on vet pickup.

The Rams are nearly last on the waiver wire claim list. What’s the chance that they can get Simone one good, for free?

Waiver wire should provide options for us. Gonna be some guys to choose from.

I love the thought of Bell except for the fact the dude is an asswipe. So I get why they will steer clear.

But hopefully our depth shines so we'll see.

The downside to having only 1 roster cutdown. Not sure anyone would be cut prior who's worth picking up.

I believe the NFL revised its pre-season cut-downs; and it's now as follows:

From 90 players to 85 players on Aug. 17

From 85 players to 80 players on Aug. 24

From 80 players to 53 on Aug. 31

Still most roster cuts coming at the end of the pre-season.
