1922 7/10 short novella by stephen king. these transfer over from books to movies rather well since there's less material to cut out. pretty basic plot about a husband and wife who disagree over whether to sell property she received from her father or keep it out of the hands of a big corporation. things go south soon enough. a couple of unintentional laughs i got from this (due to living on a farm from middle school on). not a bad watch, just a little depressing.

thor: ragnarok 8/10
the wrap up of the assguardians (big pun in the movie on that). a couple of new truths come forward about odin in this movie. big, loud, colorful, dazzling fight scenes, yes the hulk vs thor fight scene is good, i like the spartan look on the hulk as well. this gives thor a more human side than previous movies, which completes him as a character. whats with the goofy headwear on this planet ??
i really liked the hulk / thor banter throughout the movie. jeff goldblum really nails it in his performance. it proves that it isnt all about special effects. definitely worth seeing, although after what, almost 10 years, i'm reading for Infinity Wars I & II. as per custom, there's easter eggs at the end , so stick around.

Justice League

5/10

First of all, I have to be completely honest about this: I hate Affleck as Batman. So consider that as I say a few words about the film. Look--there is plenty of action and a lot of it is fun to watch, but the plot was really more of an excuse to slap this Justice League team together more than a plot that NEEDED this Justice League team to come together. As the film begins Superman is of course, dead. And that's a problem because these alien insect type creatures led by some CGI villain called, Steppenwolf is here to find these "unity boxes" which he needs to destroy worlds or some such thing(the plot sort of lost me along the way--maybe I just didn't care because the main plot is really just assembling the team).

As for the team--"Wonder Woman" as portrayed by Gal Godot is by far the best character--and it isn't close. She commands the screen when she's on it. Even if the film is beneath her she's still fun to watch.

Ben Affleck just stinks as Batman. He doesn't even seem particularly interested in the role. I just don't buy him at all as the Caped Crusader. I love J.K. Simmons as a character actor but the toupee they threw on his head so that he could play Jim Gordon was not needed. It just looks silly.

Ezra Miller provides comic relief as "The Flash" but it felt really forced. And not all that funny.

Ray Fisher plays "Cyborg" and he was my second favorite hero in the film. He played his character just right--with just a hint of self-pity and a dose of anger and another of compassion.

Henry Cavill is fine as Superman--but Superman never took much acting chops. But he does fine with the role. He looks the part and doesn't screw it up.

Jason Momoa plays the part of "Aquaman" as a sort of "Bro". I can see him at the Justice League party greeting the other heroes--"Hey, bro--whut's up? Hey, bro--wanna swim, bro?" Meh.

I am not a comic book junkie by any means and I think that those familiar with the comic universe would either love or hate this film more because of its faithfulness to or against any established mythology. I just didn't know it so I didn't think about it in that way.

In any case--nothing special. If you're bored and want to watch some flashy action with the usual CGI look or just stare at Gal Godot's beautiful face, check it out.

Beyond that, don't expect anything special.

Yup, exactly. I had high hopes after Wonder Woman.

It had its moments but the whole movie seemed rush just to keep in touch with Marvel. "See we can do team up movies too!" Also there was no real teamwork. What's the point if you have a team then?

I thought the worst part was the villain. No introduction, no reasoning, etc. He just showed up.

Contrast that with the new Thor movie, and Odin explains who Hela is, her backstory, and Hela herself shows why she wants to take over Asgard.

Steppenwolf???? Not so much.

I want to like DC movies, I really do. They just fail time and time again, with the lone exception of Wonder Woman.

DC is in kind of a mess right now , or should I say , still in kind of a mess

Now I haven't actually seen the film yet , wife and I will probably go this weekend

They bring in Joss Whedon to do two months of reshoots to try and fix Zack Snyders film , who , for some reason left the filming right in the middle

And now it looks like Ben Affleck is going to jump ship on Batman , and I believe Ben Affleck was suppose to be the Robert Downey JR of the DC Universe , and now it sounds like their gonna have to recast Batman , yet again

I think DC's mess goes all the way to the top

Wind River

9/10

This is probably the best film I've seen all year.

First of all it is directed and written by Taylor Sheriden who did two other fantastic films: "Sicario" and "Hell or High Water". He seems to be finding a niche in making what I'd consider modern day westerns. And they are very good. "Wind River" may be his best.

It begins as a bit of a mystery as a Native American girl running through the snow at night, in obvious panic, collapses and is found the next day by a Fish and Wildlife hunter played brilliantly by Jeremy Renner. An FBI agent is brought in(Elizabeth Olson) who requests the hunter's assistance in solving the crime. It's determined that the girls was raped and although she was fleeing for her life and technically it's a murder, the coroner can't classify it a homicide because it was not the direct cause of her death.

This leaves the FBI agent, the hunter, and a tribal cop to solve the mystery. I don't want to give too much away because it's a great film. But the film touches on the horrible state of Native reservations today and some of their unique challenges. Also the film works so well because of the collection of characters and their own personal stories--particularly Jeremy Renner's character--the hunter. But I don't want to give anything away.

It has action, drama, and just enough humor to lighten some horrible circumstances.

It's a very emotional film.

Some of the dialogue is the best I've heard in years. This film deserves a screenplay award at the very least.

I enjoyed the film tremendously and watched it two days in a row. I had the rental two days anyway--but it was worth it.

I've been back & forth on whether I'm gonna commit to this film.
The trailer just looked so boring. Thanks. I'll give it a shot.

It was awesome from start to finish, probably the best Star Wars movie made to date.

Well I'm gonna see it tomorrow.

Force Awakens was hyped too, thought that was kinda meh.

I'm gonna hold you to this.

I liked Force Awakens, but this one was leaps and bounds ahead. There were some parts that others didn't care for, but as a huge star wars fan, it made perfect sense to me. Johnson, who's also a huge Star Wars fan, likely felt the same so the movie doesn't spoon feed information to you, which I like.

Big call. Glad you enjoyed it so much. I saw it last night and enjoyed it. A lot of plot direction I didn't see coming , was slow in parts but on the whole an enjoyable film. I went with my kids who are aged between 8-12 and they loved it. That's what I think many of the old Star Wars fanboys forget. You go back to the original films and they have plenty of problems but were epic because we'd seen nothing like it before when we were kids.

Visually it was stunning. 8/10 from me.

I really like that it's changing things up, if Star Wars just repeats itself over and over again, it'll get boring. This allows it to go in a new direction and live on much longer. At least that was my take.

I haven't seen it, and probably won't, but I think you just committed some form of sacrilege. Got any kind of review for us?

I don't know about him, but a lot of complaints have to do with the fact the director took everything set up by J.J. Abrams in the Force Awakens and said "fuck that" and threw it away. Literally, early in the film it lets you know he's not following that path.

So a lot of theories and things people spent years obsessing over and trying to figure out got tossed aside and he took the film in a different direction.

Which I think is why some, like me, absolutely loved it, and others were upset. They wanted to know if their theories were correct, they wanted to know these things had meaning, and Johnson was like, "nah".

Well, not a review as such but things I like and didn't like.
SPOILERS below.

Its all subjective.
I'm a huge fan of Star Wars, been to several conventions, collect vintage figures, and post on Star Wars forums. That doesn't make my opinion any better than anyone else's but it means that I'm devoted to the original trilogy.
And that might be the problem I have with this film.

I know Star Wars will eventually move away from the Skywalker's but this film, like The Force Awakens and Rogue 1, is still very much connected.

I understand why Mark Hamill didn't like what Disney was doing with his character.
Which brings me to my first dislike:
The Force Awakens left us with a massive cliffhanger when Ray met Luke.
In the Last Jedi, Luke takes the lightsaber and tosses it over his shoulder. Two years for that! Really?
That's not Luke.

Leia floating through space looking like Mary Poppins.

The casino scene and Frankie Four Fingers from Snatch drag out the film and could easily be left out.

Laura Dern. She robbed Admiral Ackbar from that suicide run. He's been flying that ship for how long? He should have gone out like that.

Snoke, great potential character, but what a waste. However, it was a good plot twist.

Not sure why they brought Captain Phasma back.

Adam Driver as Kylo Ren is superb, however, his character has to man up a bit and I don't feel he's strong enough as a lead villain.

I think Disney is appealing to original Star Wars fans with the Force Awakens and more so Rogue One, but also taking Star Wars in a new direction with The Last Jedi.

I'll be looking forward to the Han Solo movie more than episode ix.
