World War Z - 6/10 for the story and acting, 9/10 for the special effects. Watching Zombies swarming over a wall in Jerusalem was awesome.
Funny - we were calling it World War Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I think you're being kind on the acting. I can totally see the 9/10 for special effects. But man - how in the hell could you actually win against zombies like that? I think I would have been saying, "meh - screw it - We're toast. Buh bye cruel world."

Trainwreck: 7.5 / 10. I really like Amy Schumer and Bill Hader and these two played 'real' people in this... not glamorous model types, so their relationship was believable. Some really funny parts, some sad parts... my wife and I both really enjoyed it.
Gotta admit - she does something for me and I can't really figure out why. Maybe she just seems like the consummate friend with benefits type. Might have to check this one out.

Just finished watching the film Rush about the rivalry of Niki Lauda and James Hunt during the 1976 Formula 1 season. 8/10, very good film. Not sure you'd even need to be into F1 to enjoy it.
Big road racing fan. Sounds like a fun watch.

It sure beats the heck out of the slow, lumbering zombies on The Walking Dead. IMO the best zombie movie of all time is Zombieland with Woody Harrelson.

Doing a Rocky marathon this week and geezus i'd forgotten just how bad Rocky IV is.
Cheesy dialogue, cheesy 80's music, cheesy fight, dumb Cold war themes, opponent i don't care about, worst Rocky training sequence... There is the Brigitte Neilson factor but she just walks around dressed like a man instead of getting naked.

Rocky, Rocky III, and the final Rocky Balboa are my favorites.

Rocky V was the worst by far imo.

I used to be up for just watching any old movie in the theater. I think Maze Runner is one that made me reevaluate my decision to be up for paying theater prices. Nothing spectacular.

Pacific Rim - 6/10 for the story and acting, 9/10 for the special effects. I ended up cheering for the monsters over Charlie Hunnam(Sons of Anarchy).

I really enjoy Burn Gorman and Charlie Day in Pacific Rim. If it's not for them this movie may take itself a little too serious and wouldn't be nearly as fun. The fun of Day and Gorman doesn't end there, it spills over into an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

You know there's a new Rocky coming out right?
Called "Creed". I think he trains Apollo Creed's kid.
4 was ok, 5 was deplorable and as a kid I was scared to death for Rocky in Rocky 3. Easily my favorite along with the 1st

I like Walking Dead but yeah - Zombieland was great. Loved the part with Bill Murray. It's weird - Z just made me irritable.

8/10

I think that some people will really like the film and some people will find it a bit dull. It's no "Goodfellas". Let's get that out of the way first. But it was still a very good film. The film tells the "Whitey" Bulger story. "Whitey" was the crime lord boss of the Winter Hill gang which pretty much ran Boston's South Side from the 70s through 80s. "Whitey" was really just a small time ruthless thug but his status was elevated considerably with the help of...wait for it....the F.B.I. That's right--the federal government's crime fighting agency essentially protected "Whitey" Bulger and looked the other way because it was manipulated by a rogue agent who used "Whitey" and the agency for his own purposes.

How does a crime lord stay untouched for so many years? Corruption. Yes--there were payoffs and manipulation and the F.B.I. had convinced themselves that "Whitey" was helping to bring down their BIG target: the Italian Mafia. And they did have a lot of success against the Italian mob--but that wasn't necessarily due to "Whitey's" help. Anyway--if you are familiar with the story it's neat to watch it play out on screen and if you aren't you'll find it interesting.

The performances were great. Johnny Depp wears blue contacts for the role and they take a little getting used to. In fact it makes him look a little possessed but that's perfect for the character he's playing who is a bit pf a demon anyway(not literally). He does a good job of bringing this evil thug to life but it may not be the most rounded portrayal. Even in his so-called "tender moments" "Whitey" seems evil. There are some great scenes including a moment when he's trying to intimidate the FBI agent's wife. That is a very creepy scene that allows you to feel her personal terror.

Joel Edgerton plays crooked F.B.I. agent John Connelly and though he's terrific--it's a little hard to get a feel as to why he goes down this dark path besides the money and power he seems to get along the way. But it's hard to know what makes him tick and he's the more interesting character. "Whitey" is just a thug. But what happened to this guy? Why? The film doesn't explore that very much.

The supporting characters are fine--especially Corey Stoll as the new D.A. who topples the house of cards. But the supporting cast isn't given much to do. The film belongs to Depp and Edgerton.

I think I liked the film more than I should because the story--this idea of a street thug becoming a crime lord because of connections to the right people often mirrors the way success in life often happens. It's often a lottery. Timing. Connections. And while we usually think of that as something positive happening for someone, it can also happen to criminals who achieve their own level of success.

But the performances were very good and there are some excellent tense scenes. Depp should get Oscar consideration.

I'm sticking with 8/10 although I don't believe everyone will rate it that highly.

The biggest negative I had was the ending. I thought that could have been handled better.

Snowpiercer: 8/10

Think I might have already rated this film before on here, but to drunk to go back and check. Awesome movie, especially when it gets to the 3/4 mark.

Thia is a great scene from it. Tried to find the whole scene but couldn't, this is just about 1/3 of it.This is the opening scene of the final act and is crazy good in its entirety. Best Chris Evans movie.

this seems to be how most horror movies get their thrills nowadays.
i consider myself a horror movie buff and watch most horrors out of the sheer love of the genre.
but when you consider the garbage being made today to the originals like Halloween and Halloween II, there's a pretty big disparity between quality now and then.

Ex Machina (2015): "A young programmer is selected to participate in a ground-breaking experiment in artificial intelligence by evaluating the human qualities of a breath-taking female A.I." - IMDB

I'll start off by saying that I may be a bit biased when writing this review because both me and my fiancee have strong backgrounds in technology; fiancee is actually a programmer. I had heard good things about this movie from friends of mine and I felt compelled to watch it.
The story itself is really thought out and presents the dilemma early on: is an artificially intelligent being capable of conscious thought? The main character, Caleb, is tasked with answering this question by applying the Turing Test on Ava, a human-like being built on artificial intelligence. Nathan, Caleb's boss and CEO of the largest search engine company Bluebook (think Google), is Ava's creator and has given Nathan a week to test her consciousness.

The actor's do a good job of giving off an awkward feel to the movie. There's something strange about Nathan (Ava actually eludes to him being a liar, and for Caleb not to believe him) and Caleb himself is successfully portrayed as a gifted but alone programmer. Ava has intentional sex appeal to her and, although played by an actual person, exhibits some machine-like movement, responses and expressions.
Onto the movie itself... I found myself into the movie the entire time. At about the halfway mark, I had to make a quick run to the store and found myself hurrying so I could come back and finish watching. The story is good, acting is good and the element of mystery keeps you interested the whole time. There isn't a whole bunch of back story on Caleb or Nathan but you do get clues about them during the movie. This gives the film a quick start without a whole bunch of "fluff" at the beginning. It moves slow at times and any casual movie watcher can figure out things that go without saying. Those are really my only two gripes about the movie.

The visuals were awesome on Blu-Ray. Remember, this isn't an action film. It's heavy on the sci-fi side and you just need to keep an open mind about it all. In a time where A.I. is becoming more and more advanced, this movie gives perspectives to the benefits and dangers of such technology. Where do we draw the line on such intelligence? Do we REALLY want machines to be free-thinking and conscious entities? Whatever side of the dilemma you're on, this movie will definitely get you thinking.

My rating: 7/10
The story is great, the acting is above-average and the movie is visually pleasant. I would give a higher rating if the A.I. topic hadn't already been done in excess with movies like The Terminator, A.I. and I, Robot. The ending itself left some to be desired and there are a few plot holes in the movie. I may be nit-picking but I believe my rating is fair. This is a must-watch if you're a sci-fi fan and don't necessarily need all the action associated with recent sci-films like Terminator: Genisys.

The Judge. 7/10

Not an action or scifi movie.Just a classic heart felt story about a dad(Robert Duvall) and his son (Robert Downey Jr) who haven't talked for years until the mother passes away.

Dad, who is a judge, gets arrested for committing a hit and run, and his son,a lawyer, ends up defending him in court
