Allen played every snap of 13 personnel last year. I don't think people realize how important he is to this team let alone what kind of market he would have in a trade (teams would be falling over themselves for him - though I don't see us trading him).
I don't think he is cut or traded either.
Allens blocking has improved greatly over the last two years and he his a solid contributor to the offense.
Will the Rams think his skills are less important to overall success than a 6yh WR or a 4th CB? Like I said, doubtful.

With the league moving to heavier personnel over the next few years I expect Allen to fetch us a nice compensatory pick next year too.

With the normal lower tier teams following what one of the most successful hottest teams do......this 2026 season you can expect any Ram TE's on the PS to be plucked off when the season begins ......

Dan Villari
Mark Redman
Rohan Jones

Its should be said its highly doubtful that soon to be 34 yr old veteran TE Higbee remains active on the 53 master roster not injured.

Yeah...... this 6-6 big talent high ball catching talent has not been tapped on a regular basis by LA yet, Davis Allen is a fast improving fully well balanced TE that most all teams will desire.

Yeah, I think it will be interesting to see how things shake out with our guys but a reason that we may be able to stash them:

- Right now the need is Y tight ends (Parkinson and Higbee are truly valuable here) and not h-backs/F receivers. Teams may be set with their own H-back types given how many were available and taken in this years draft.

Also, Villari is RAW. We basically paid to develop him over many years so slightly less concerned that someone will snatch him up this year. He's like Taysom Hill Lite.

My hope is that Daniels becomes another steal of the draft that McSnead is becoming known for. I am always partial to actual Rams draft picks getting the job done vs signing some vet looking for a team.
Aleen is not getting cut or traded, it would be foolish. He can play, tall and still young. Him shining for another team would be a tough one to swallow.
Rooting for Daniels.

Yeah, he was my favorite pick of that draft class, based on where he was drafted. Sort of funny given how great that class is turning out to be.....including Allen was taken before Puka.
Anyway, Allens development has been fun to see and I agree he would be quickly snagged up.....god help us, probably by the Whiners, if he isn't resigned when that time comes.

McVay can find a hard working solid 3rd wide out able to start & fill in should old age kick back up in Adams or more incidents with Nacua occur.
wait what GIF

I like this class better than last yrs. Each guy has a defined role awaiting them if they pan out.

I wasn't as high on Hamilton last year. Not a pure NT, not a great pass rusher. Hunter was at best going to be the #3 RB and was not likley going to see the field. The smallish LB we all liked, but apparently they felt he wouldn't hold up against the run, and was beat out by Dolac.

This year they got the future QB prospect, who can back up this year. They have an OL who can play anywhere on the line eventually, and can back up OT & OG this year. Then you have a highly rated athletic receiving TE. Then a baller WR who has a great shot to be a #3 WR this yr or next yr. Then a pure NT, in the Poona Ford mold.

All 5 will stick and I can see at least 2 or 3 UDFAs making it as well. OL depth, secondary depth, and edge depth can come out of the UDFA class. Maybe even another TE?

It might be just how hard McVay coaches his TE's too.

As I posted earlier last week, McVay history spent a great amount of his early NFL coach time with the excellent Washington TE units.

I would imagine that his bright offensive mind would cause him to demand serious precise ("STRESSFULL") performance play after play (Crankshaft level) from this TE room.

Davis Allen is far from standing out but when you have the time to keep your eyes on what he does on the field .....the word I would come up with in description of this young player "SOLID"!

I am just not that impressed with Mumpfield nor Whittington. They are both JAGs and the Rams need a better player than a JAG as their 3rd receiver.
What irritates me is all these late round and UDFA types they bring in for wideout it feels like the priority is always upside and fit in the offense instead of ability to fill special teams roles.

Best hands in the room.

That was knock on him before the draft. He’s a boundary WR which I am not sure works in our scheme, as we have so many crossing routes. I tell you what, which will be controversial, but no WR has looked better than OBJ did in the brief time he was running them even if he wasn’t better in total than Puka and Kupp. He just had more ability to leave the CB trailing due to his explosion

I was surprised we didn’t look for that in the draft but CJ Daniels offers something different, so am looking forward to seeing whether he can separate as well as I think he will

Excellent video. Thank you for that. Some things that jumped out for me:
1) the top 3 teams in the NFC used 13 personnel in one form or another. Look at who was calling plays. Highly regarded offensive minds—two HCs and one OC who was hired to be a HC (to a team with 2 established TEs already).
2) McVay has long been heralded as a top offensive mind. One reason is he knows how to scheme a player open. I have seen two versions of this now just in Nacua. I have also seen the seahawks use both techniques for jsn.
3) it is probably easier to create a mismatch using an athletic TE than it is a starting WR, let alone a WR3.

The depth seems fine:

Nacua (6'2" 216)
Adams (6'1" 204)
Whittington (6'1" 202)
Mumpfield (6'1" 188)
Danials (6'2" 202)

They seem to be of a certain type of body design

The exception....Xavier (5'9" 180)

The rest......

Edwards (6'3" 211)
Scott (5'11" 185)
Williams (5'9" 178)
Presley (5'8" 174)

3 like Xavier, 1 like the other 5

Your top 5 could be adequate. I like Whit but his value is on ST. Daniels could contribute but not likely until late in the year or next year. The minute Nacua or DAdams become unavailable there’s a problem.
