I think Kupp is awesome, and I hope he's a Ram for his whole career. That said, I just cant see breaking the bank for a slot receiver. A shut down corner? Yes. A franchise LT? Yes. Franchise QB? Yes. Aaron Donald? Every day and twice on Sunday, yes. A WR? Particularly one who operates out of the slot? I just dont see it.
Woods does so much more than just catch passes, great downfield blocker, exceptional with the WR screen/end around etc. And I feel like there's a bit of "they owe him" for the contract he has and how he has out produced it, but to everyone's point he'll be in his age 30 year when he's UFA. So ultimately I think the stable of WR will be constantly in flux, we'll see guys go, developed guys get their shot and we'll see new guys brought in to be developed. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I feel like Woody would settle for a team friendly but fair to him contract. It's probably naive of me to think that, but I just feel that being home in LA.... in this system....with this coach.... Might make it a possibility.

Wish we could keep them all, but we can't, so therefore the first one to signs, stays! And that's the guy I like the most.

Woods changed the culture of our WR room! For years, our WRs were inexperienced and we searched long and far for a guy to provide veteran leadership. Woods cares about all of phases of the game...catching, route running and blocking, and is a team first guy. I'm sure his work ethic affected Kupp and Reynolds as rookies. He's the mentor that we hoped Britt, Clayton, LLoyd etc would be. Someone we haven't had since Holt.

He hasn't even hit the field yet and you fully expect Van Jefferson to match Woods production by year two?
Yea, that's a bit over the top. I can get a little too giddy about our rookies at times.lol
I do think he is a perfect fit scheme wise and that he's gonna be a big part of our
offense sooner rather than later.

We should forget that Kupp is a ‘slot receiver’, I think.

Better questions are these.

Is Kupp highly effective? (Hands, 1st downs, yardage, TD’s, gets separation, reads the D, sight adjustments, has the confidence of his QB, etc)

Is he a playmaker that forces D’s to gameplan for?

The answers are obvious, don’t you think? Snead/Demoff have got to find a way to extend Kupp and Ramsey. Period. Such players are never allowed to walk by good and smart teams.

Personally, I would move mountains to extend Woods, too, if humanly possible. But Woods is a ‘strong want’ while Ramsey and Kupp are ‘must haves’, IMO.

That's absolutely true. @jrry32 would shred me for calling him that. Just wish both guys could "settle" for 10 mill per year each, vs 1 of them looking for 18 mill alone.
As always, you make great points

Hate to say it but if kupp doesn't take a team friendly deal I believe he's gone. In this offense I can see woods being productive in his 30's.

I need red zone production from woods to garner an extension. That’s where Kupp is valuable, he’s a monster in the red zone and separates like it’s between the 20’s. Woods has been ok in the red zone. Hard to beat TD’s.

Is it play design or Kupp?

I wonder if Woods could do the same if he had the play calls Kupp has.

Could Jefferson in year two run the same plays with similar success?

Just a thought... maybe the Rams view Woods and Kupp similarly, and... the contract talk with Woods is all about seeing “who wants to stay the most”? If they view signing both as problematic.

Kupp feels like one of those pros you build around. I could say that equally for Woods. It’s hard to imagine losing either.

Geez. It isn’t easy to figure what combination of contracts is best. Good luck, Rams. lol
For me it's simple...

If you don't double Kupp he's going to eat any CB2 or lower for lunch. He requires defensive focus.

If you don't double Woody you can still slow or shut him down with other than your top corner.

i agree... Kupp, especially with the knee injury does not seem like a guy they will break the bank for....the salary cap system just ruins any chances for guys to stay with a team a whole career...i think this hurts players ability to earn money after football as a "Hometown" hero. its a shame.

Yup, the system is so horribly broken. QB's taking up 15% of the cap while the other 50 players make up 85%
Throw in a second or third guy being paid at the top of the scale, and now you've got 48 guys splitting 65-70%
The owners give up more revenue, and it ends up going to the guys already making the most money.

i don't know about good smart teams not allowing great players to walk. correct me if i am wrong but the cheaters have only kept one great player and he usually signed a team friendly deal

I’d pay neither of them top $$$. Age and injuries a concern for a LT high dollar contract. First guy, maybe both, to accept a relatively team & cap friendly contract To stay in LA gets the deal. Otherwise it’s a trade in last year or let go in FA (& taking the comp pick). I trust McSnead to find and create other WRs to excel with VJ in this offense. So I’m not breaking the bank for either Kupp/Woods.

I think the Rams would pick Kupp over Woods. He's younger, he's Goff's favorite target, and he's a tough match-up in the red-zone. I could see Jefferson replacing Woods if they can't make a deal. Hopefully, they find a way to keep both. But I'm not holding my breath.

The Patriots have kept a lot of great players over the years. They're just smart about when to cut bait.

Ok brass tacks. If I had a choice Woods or Kupp. I am we lock Woods in regardless of what it takes. He was already pro when Kupp came into the majors. The inspiration came from Woods. Woods just has too much to offer he is the WR Coach on the field. And much props to Eric Yarber he has done a lot for this WR Corps. So yeah I’d keep Woods over Kupp.

Also the 97 yarder TD, the 3-33 TD?! Thats validity to why you keep someone like Woods.
