Get it done, please.
He's out performed his current contract. There is no reason that we shouldn't at least try to lock him up.

Woods is a work horse for us.

Glad to hear Woods say he would want to stay a Ram for the remainder of his career however they need to pay that man for what he contributes.

Love Woods but they need to see what they have in Jefferson before any extension. Not probable but could be similar production given VJ’s route running. Ramsey deal factors in too.

Hard to even put a value on Bobby Trees. He brings a LOT to the table. Unfortunately, it is going to be tough the next few years as we lose really good players for cap reasons. It such a different problem to have than the Rams have had to deal with over the last 20 years (majority of anyway).

Get it done! Possibly my favorite Ram. Consistent, fast, quick, strong, willing, and a great team guy.

The extension could be maneuvering for the Ramsey deal.
I fully expect VJ's production to be in same neighborhood as Wood's by year 2.jmho
plus if you can read voodoo, you know these chicken bones are saying VJ's gonna be a star.

I have a feeling Van Jefferson is going to be Kupps replacement and not woods. Kupp is going to cost a fortune, like it not he's one the best WRs in the NFL and probably the best slot WR. That's saying a lot. He does everything very well. Not saying woods doesn't but woods is on the back 9 and Kupp is on the front.

I liked the Wood signing a lot at the time and it turned out to be a great deal for the Rams.

I think the Rams can extend Woods early without adding to the cap this year or next year. IIRC his market value is around $12Mil. I've been stating that the Rams could save money by resigning Woods over Kupp. Kupp's MV is just under $17Mil at $16.7Mil if IRRC. Rookie Van Jefferson can take Kupp's spot next year with a year of experience. VJ has some similar skills to Kupp. Resigning Ramsey, Woods and Kupp seems highly unlikely for cap reasons. As much as I hate to lose Kupp it may become a reality. The savings can help the Rams keep another key player or sign a mid-level free agent.

One question is do the Rams wait till the after this season to limit the injury risk?

If they can come to terms but, wait till later this year that could be an alternative or wait till the after this season.

I consider both Ramsey and Kupp ‘must haves’. Demoff simply has to find a way to extend both.

Woods is technically a Ram through ‘21, but perhaps he’s among Demoff's early chess moves to facilitate keeping all 3 players?

Totally, Agree! Will be very surprised AND very disappointed if the Rams don’t keep/extend both Ramsey and Kupp!!!

IMO the Rams need to let him play it out. I have mentioned this before, that I believe re-signing him is going to be a problem and it may lead to his departure.

I would not redo his contract. And if they feel that need they better be real careful with the cap hit. He is a good player and fit in this scheme but if they pay him big money it will end up hurting the team IMO.

It's too early for the Rams to be concerned about Wood's money. IMO they will offer him a 3 year extension at the end of next year. Probably in the $34M - $35M range with about $16M guaranteed. That would be on the generous side of his probable market value based on age production. But all this is assuming a return to normality by next season giving them the cap to do it. He wants to stay with the Rams and finish his career here. The average WR in the NFL retires about 30. It's a statistically driven position where the average WR's production peaks at 25 or 26 and declines after that.

This is why the Rams drafted Jefferson. I said it right after he was drafted and I will say it again here. Van is Woods' replacement. He has 2 years to develop and acclimate to the NFL game. A 3 year contract for Robert would be generous. They very well could simply offer him a 2 yr deal for about $23M and that would be a normal NFL extension for a WR his age.

Remember he will be a 30 yr old WR FA when they extend him. IMO a 3 yr deal will be the best he can hope for. What he has going for him in terms of career longevity is his route running is as much a factor in his separation as his speed where he only timed at 4.5 as a rookie. His ability to run McVay's route schemes with precision is why he's getting the production he has. WR isn't all about speed. Kupp proved that precise route running is far more important. That's why Van Jefferson is such a steal. He combines great route running and 4.4 speed. Jefferson has the length, hands, and pure elusiveness that will make him one of the best WRs in the NFL.

Jefferson dropped because he couldn't run the 40 due to an injured foot. Another WR who had the same issue was Keenan Allen who tried to run and his 4.7 speed dropped him like a stone in the draft. Subsequent analytics of his game film has him timed at 4.55. This same type of game analytics on Jefferson's game film has him in the mid 4.4 range. Jefferson has that same type of violent elusiveness that Allen plays with combined with better long speed than Allen all in a 6'1" 200 lb player. That is rare and makes him an absolute steal in the mid-second round.

This is why IMO Jefferson is an upgrade to Cooks. It's also what will play against Woods and why the Rams will probably offer a 2 yr but no more than a 3 year deal. If it's for 3 years it will be structured for 2 yrs with the 3rd year like an affordable option year.

Just a thought... maybe the Rams view Woods and Kupp similarly, and... the contract talk with Woods is all about seeing “who wants to stay the most”? If they view signing both as problematic.

Kupp feels like one of those pros you build around. I could say that equally for Woods. It’s hard to imagine losing either.

Geez. It isn’t easy to figure what combination of contracts is best. Good luck, Rams. lol
