Just a thought but I wonder if they're doing this because they feel that Trumaine will be more willing to sign a long-term deal after being tagged at a fair price whereas Jenkins will overestimate his value and they won't be able to work a deal out. Instead, they believe that by letting JJ go to the FA market, it will force him to be realistic about his value and allow them to re-sign him at the value they feel he's worth.

That is how I read it.

With the Rams close to the playoffs and a few players from being serious contenders, JJ will regret moving on for the money and watching all of his teammates enjoy the success they will have by sticking together. JMO

Sure would be nice to know what "his number" is.
Because apparently his previous agent didn't think it was realistic.

Or his agent told him to be a professional and stop negotiating on Twitter and JJ kicked him to the curb ha

Really?

Is this you talking or the alcohol?

.

Hahahaha
I'm serious
I'm sick of hearing about Plan A

the cost of these two guys is gonna end up being astronomical and Fisher and Snead have no other recourse but to pay or allow them to leave - this draft is deep at CB and I personally think Roberson and Gaines could be just as good,

I mean I love Janoris but is he really work the franchise tag? Placing him in the upper echelon of CBs in this league? Tru is one of my favorites but he's injured quite often. Drafting two stud CBs with one of our seconds and a 3rd would solidify our secondary with zero of the cost

It ALMOST seems like JJ is negotiating as if he were a franchise QB, doesn't it?

I mean, usually a team is over the barrel because they only have the one starter quality QB. and all, parties know that. Practically blackmail type "negotiations".

But CB is much different, especially on the current Rams.

Jenkins is only one of two CB's. Plus Gaines and Roberson are very realistic alternatives. Hell, if Gaines is healthy, there is very little drop off from Jenkins. Maybe even none.

Also, this rich CB draft is tempting for long term and relatively inexpensive help.

And heaven knows Snead can find CB's both high and low in the draft. GW and Cecil do a tremendous job of developing and scheming their new CB's, too.

When one thinks about it, Jenkins isn't exactly holding all the cards here. The Rams are.

Question is, does Jenkins realize that yet?

My guess? Byron Maxwell got 6 years $63 million from Philly last off-season. So I have a feeling Jenkins wants at least $10.5 million per year. Probably $11 million per year. I've always felt both CBs were looking for something in the range of $10 to $12 million per year while the Rams would try to bring them back at $8 to $10 million per year.

If I were the Rams, I'd probably go as high as $11 million per year if I could keep the signing bonus down.

Janoris Jenkins - DB - Rams
Bleacher Report's Jason Cole reports free agent CB Janoris Jenkins recently rejected a five-year, $45 million offer from the Rams.

Jenkins has since fired his agent and is switching to the same representation that negotiated Darrelle Revis' contract. By rule, Jenkins isn't allowed to hire an agent within five days of canning his previous one, so the Rams are now going to be up against the wall and will probably have to compete with other teams for Jenkins. The $9 million annually the Rams offered Jenkins would have made him one of the 13 highest-paid corners in annual average, but, of course, we have no idea what the guaranteed money was in the Rams' offer. Jenkins is coming off easily his best season and is probably seeking upwards of $10 million per year.

I was thinking $10M a year for Jenks.. Not sure I would want to go higher than that.

Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins fires his agent
Posted on February 28, 2016 by Vincent Bonsignore

http://www.insidesocal.com/nfl/2016/02/28/rams-cornerback-janoris-jenkins-fires-his-agent/

The Los Angeles News group has confirmed through a high-ranking league source that Los Angeles Rams’ cornerback Janoris Jenkins has fired agent Malik Shareef.

Jenkins is one of 12 unrestricted free agents on the Rams, and one of their two UFA starting cornerbacks along with Trumaine Johnson whom they hope to retain this offseason.

The move by Jenkins comes at an inopportune time as the Rams have had on-going discussions with his agent about a new long-term deal. By NFL rules, Jenkins is not allowed to hire an agent for five days and the Rams are not allowed to negotiate with him during that time. Nevertheless, sources indicate it shouldn’t be a long-range detriment to the Rams locking Jenkins up.

The Rams are contemplating whether to use their franchise tag on either Jenkins or Johnson, a decision that might rely heavily on progress on a long-term deal with one or the other.

The Rams are allowed to franchise tag Jenkins during the five-day grace period, if they so decided.

With free agency approaching, Los Angeles Rams cornerback Janoris Jenkins has reportedly fired his agent, according to Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole. Under NFL rules, Jenkins cannot hire another agent for five days and therefore Jenkins and the Rams will not negotiate during that time. How much will this impact the probability of Jenkins signing with another team? Will the Rams be able to sign Jenkins before the start of free agency? Bleacher Report NFL Insider Jason Cole discusses the Rams’ dilemma with Jenkins.

As hard as I have been on Jenkins, I would not sign for 45M over 5 years in his situation either. Hopefully the Rams can get something done with him that is reasonable. As much as 10M I feel is reasonable for him. If he showed the consistency he did last year I would be fine seeing the Rams pay even more.... but he's only had one season without the huge mental miscues. Prove it wasn't just by chance before you go asking for truly elite money. That's what all the other elite CBs did (Revis, Peterson, Sherman, etc).

I don't care if Jenkins complains about Byron Maxwell getting 6 years for $63 million from Philly last off-season. And if Snisher is smart, they shouldn't either. Maxwell's contract is a perfect example of what NOT to do. If Jenkins is getting paid more than Maxwell next season I hope it is on another team's payroll.

Johnson hasn't went up against #1 WRs like Jenks has and has struggled at times with speedy receivers. He does have better size, though. I'd go as high as 9M for Tru. If we lose Jenks, maybe bump that up slightly just to ensure we keep one of them.

I wonder who leaked 5/45 and why?

Is it a message to other teams? Is it a message from the Rams to Tru?

Interesting Cole's reporting is usually less accurate than Nick Foles. While 5 year 45 is a fair offer considering his accomplishments I think he will be seeking at least Byron Maxwell numbers and he will probably get it as potentially the top corner on the market
