Tons of examples of ex-players being terrible coaches and great coaches that never played the game at the professional level.

Like you say... can they coach (teach)? Can they gain respect?

I agree to an extent. And Garcia is pretty renowned as a player-coach during his career, so that assuages my concerns in that regard.
I'm not sure anyone knew anything about Cignetti when he first got here. Or at least his appointment didn't meet with much overall scrutiny.
(like it is with Garcia)
