Jackson was below average last year. We can easily find a replacement level LT in FA or the draft.

I want him back because he's cheap and we can win with him starting - but I would want him as cheap as possible.

Above average, imo.. but, like you say.. no Trent Williams.

CORRECTION - They put original round tender on him, which is the problem. He was UDFA. We only have right to match offers.

You look at there past history & that’s the case.The hope is a team gives him a good valued contract that works out for both sides.

The Rams still have Joesph Noteboom at LT & that’s why he got his Big Contract .They believe in him.

If they saw him as a LT they would have used the higher tender. Of that I am sure.

I don't see him as a long term answer at LT. So it isn't a huge surprise. But he is a good and versatile lineman. So I think the sentiment that the Rams don't expect him to get a huge offer is accurate. And if he does then let him go.

Question though is whether they expect to let him go if he gets a reasonable offer. Seems doubtful unless he has been complaining to them behind the scenes that he wants to be paid.

Nice, it might backfire but we'll see. I like AJ but it's not like he was elite last season. But he's good enough I'm good with rolling with him... trust him more than Boom at least. Would be happy if we are able to nab one of the top LTs in the draft though,.

Between Jackson, Noteboom, and Havs, they ALL missed time last season. It would be wise to grab a Tackle this draft, even if he’s not one of the elite 2-4 names. There are other guys who project to be solid.

They could make calls and try out FAs too.

They get everybody trading/drafting Tackles and the Edge/CB/WR guys fall.

Either that or.....

.....they didn't believe any team was going to be deterred from offering the 1st or 2nd round pick for Alaric. Why risk more money than (or before) you have to?
.....they have the right to match any of the three tender offers. Why risk more money than (or until) you have to?
.....they don't believe a team will offer huge money to a 1 year LT starter with the draft so deep at OT. And if a team does, the Rams have choices. Match it or draft his replacement in the 1st round. Why risk more money before you have to?

Personally, I like the move. I think it's smart.
