Wanted to give Stafford his flowers in this game.

Staff just needed reliable "hot read" targets, who knew where to be when the blitz was coming. Kupp is that guy who already knows what to do & where to go when he sees the blitz. Being a bigger WR, he can cross the middle without too much trepidation.
Kupp's value to this team is really inestimable. If they ever trade him, it'll be a mistake on the scale of the Fletcher trade.

They'll probably target another big slot weapon in this next draft. That element is crucial in McVay's offense. In Washington it was Jordan Reed. In LA it has been Cooper Kupp.

Of course he's drafted some from rounds 2 on and missed on them. Like Everett for example, who was very similar to Reed. Kupp is similar size though, faster and more difficult to bring down, just has a "WR" label on him. But he's really a typical McVay pass catching TE.

As it stands he may be a good depth option behind Kupp. But for that to happen he has to be available. We'll see.
Since you said they'll probably target another big slot weapon in this next draft, I wondered if you're implying that Whittington couldn't be Kupp's eventual replacement. Or am I misreading that?

A big slot weapon.... Tyler Warren. We can dream, right?
Whittington would be great, too, but he's gotta prove durable. He's Kupp's understudy.
Kupp - Puka - D.Rob - Warren - Kyren
That's a lotta firepower right there.

DRob needs to be upgraded. We should get a real weapon at the X position.

Never say never. But as of right now I'd say he's no Kupp.

Agreed. I would add, though, that's a very high bar. Chances are that no matter who they draft, even if it's a 1st round pick, won't be another Kupp or his equivalent.

But I'm noting that you feel they'll need someone better than Whit when Kupp moves on. I can't say you're wrong...or right for that matter. Time will tell.

Whit looks fantastic out there.

There's no better proof than when the Rams offense went to more shit after he had to leave the packers game. At least it was kind of functional with him in there.

Without him on the field the offense was putrid. I think he'll be fine in this league.

Verse needs to learn how to tackle lower. He reaches high too much.
That’s it. He’s reaching for shoulder pads instead of trying to wrap around the waist. This is a case of athleticism being challenged by technique. At the pro level, poor technique will hold you back.

Wanted to give Stafford his flowers in this game.

I thought we had struggled against the blitz most of the season and a lot of that fell on Stafford finding the hot read and know where to adjust.

Against the Vikings he was superb - so much so that Flores had to call of the dogs somewhat.

The frequency of the blitz seemed to decrease throughout the game as it was not working because of Stafford.
Agreed. Stafford looked much more comfortable handling the blitz. Some of that is being comfortable knowing where his receivers are going to be, and some of that is the receivers KNOWING where to be.

Of all the positive things we can say about Nacua and Kupp, one is their ability to make instantaneous reads when running their routes. These receivers have options and then there are adjustments. All last year we saw Nacua discussing routes with Kupp. It’s what has made Kupp so special, and now Nacua.

Stafford is going to shred blitzes now that he has those guys back.

Also, a shout out to KW and now Blake for their pass protection.
This offense is officially dangerous now.

Two rookies developing chemistry. They were outstanding vs the vikes. Regarding Dedich, the difference from game one to his second start was a noticeably huge leap. He looks like another late round/UDFA steal.
…I know, I know, only two games.
ya... but maybe we give Avila an extra week?? I'd rather him get back to 100% before rushing him back, if there's no fires to put out.
But one thing's for sure, Dedich can't be sent to the PS -- he'll get snapped up immediately. Like when you feed those carp at the local park's pond.... they're just swarming right in front of you, waiting for you to drop that bread bro.

I wonder if it goes back to what Greg Cossell said about him. Cossell observed that Verse has stiff hips. That would limit his ability to redirect or even crouch.
