It is twisting it. Donald’s sacks went down because he was being double and triple teamed. Hekker didn’t have extra guys coming at him.

And Bojorquez gets some better coaching maybe and has a great year. It happens. Learning new techniques can make a lot of difference for a player. They don’t all have the best coaches at their position at every college. The higher you go the better the coaching. Having a former MLB player coach my kid in baseball has been a game changer. I’m sure they want to really look at this guy and see if he can continue his success.

Nobody here dislikes Hekker btw. We all love having him on the Rams. But there have been a lot of very good punters entering the league. I’m sure at #10 he’s looking overpaid as the #1
Penn state fan. Frantic is a Buckeye.

I don't think that's how they total punt yardage.

@Rams4life see this is a good example.I don’t agree with @Elmgrovegnome on this particular topic even though he’s a cool guy dude and and good poster I generally agree with. Don’t take into consideration he’s a filthy Buckeye fan .:owned:

The thing is Hekker doesn’t have extra guys coming at him but his stats are accrued and judged generally on what 10 other guys do on the field with him. If they give a returner just 4 more yards each return, 16 or 20 yards in a game that might not seem like much but in regards to kickers that’s the difference of being on the bottom of the NFL and the top.

But hey, they just reset the Sportbook money so I’ll bet you who wins the starting job come the beginning of the season? Bragging rights for a year on the winner gets to be called Bones for a year ya savvy?

Lol yep that's me.

I'm 35 so I don't really remember all the Michigan/OSU games in the 90s. Rumor is that Michigan used to be able to actually compete with Ohio State

Well, it seems like alot of years but we have to give up some years to make up for the periods back when the Wolverines used OSU was our doormat.

Sure looks like a punting competition to me. Surprised Les didn't say "Well, Hekker's our punter today... tomorrow... who knows".

So almost 6 million dollars on two punters??? Is that right?
$6.52 million for 3 punters since the 3rd doesn't count against the cap and when the final 53 man roster is done the other one will likely be on the practice squad so in the end it will just be the $5.5 million cap hit for Hekker.

I'm kind of torn because I feel the money could be used to fill a hole or two with remaining free agents and make our draft even stronger if holes are filled. That's a lot for a punter but on the other hand I love hekker.

What's your take?

Right now it doesn't really matter in the off season and we've already screwed our cap for the year. I totally get though why we signed him. I said earlier in the thread we're going to have a returner competition and you don't need Hekker kicking by himself to all those guys plus like they reference just as they did last year keeping a 2nd specialist is just a safety precaution this year like last we carried a PS P/K/LS.

I think Gurleys resume was a lot more impressive than Hekkers.

Now, Hekker is a captain and leader, so that is probably part of it. But it seems a tad inconsistent to not home Hekker to the same standard that we have others.

I still think Hekker is trade bait. If the targeted player drops to the pick of a pre-determined trade partner they move up with Hekker as part of the trade. If that player or players aren't on the board then they have depth behind Hekker who will remain the starter this year.
Next year Hekker has a $4.7M cap hit and a dead of $1.1M so it gives them options next year as well. Bojorquez is signed for 1 year at a little over $1M (which looks like vet minimum) so it's a light load to carry. If Hekker has another down year, Bojorquez gives them an option. I like Hekker but thats a big cap for a punter and he will be at 32 years of age or pushing it. Corey is 24 right now.

Hekker needs a career year this season if he isn't traded.

Oh BTW the Charger's kicker does both punting and place kicking. There were rumors in March about a trade for a punter. If they lose that one guy they lose both punter and kicker. That IMO wouid be the primary trade partner. Staley knows Hekker who can place kick in an emergency.
